1. It's a one off tribute that Chris May and Martin Lee made in memory of Jack Bruce (my favourite Bassist).
2. Well, my ideal score would be something like a 2nd hand Overwater (or a Shuker), but there's not many going and this is going to take a bit more saving up: I like G&L, Yamaha and Warwick as 'Mainstream' Brands.
3. I've been out of bass playing for a while now, as I switched to guitars around 4 years ago. I wanted to ask what you feel the best quality bass is between £600 and £900? Used to get all sorts for £650. The reason I ask is because every time I spot something that I feel is a good deal, I see something a lot better for £100 extra...So my radar's out of touch. I had a Marleaux Consat and a Bravewood Precision before I changed and I was very happy with these, but I couldn't get a band together at the time. So what's out there nowadays?? (All input appreciated)
4. You've owned a Pedulla before, so I believe you
5. I've owned 7 instruments at once, but now I currently have 2 and would like to make it 3. I've cut back opting for quality and I'm happier now that I can't pick out issues, or things that need upgraded etc and I get on with my playing. You can try and get lucky with the budget thing, or blow £2k+, but I think that £1.5k mark is as good as it gets from a practical point of view - 1 or 2 of those and you're set for life.
6. Just out of interest - Is it an Ash Body? Or Alder?
7. Never tried a Carvin/Kiesel, but they do look great - Hard to find in the UK
8. Dibs if you go to sell it , but I hope you enjoy it. I've had 7 G&Ls and my current No.1 is an Invader Guitar - Never had an average one, never mind a bad'un.
9. Was just looking at the new Michael Anthony model - Never tried a Schecter, but the neck profile might be a bit too thin for me. Great looker though!
10. Oh right! Well, yeah - I owned an ESP for 4 years and that narrow 'U' is fantastic. If you've had the Gibson 6 years then it's obviously a good one, so I would get it re-profiled in that case.
11. Nah, Sunburst is best
12. Would love to try one of these out - Never seen them in the UK
13. How long have you had it? It may just take some getting used to - I love the 50s profile! If you're certain you want to change, I would like to trade with someone who doesn't like the 60s neck.
14. Today I increased my collection from 1 to 2 guitars! The G&L did everything anyway, but I used 'alternate tunings' as a way to justify the Yamaha...
15. And a badass he was too - I have a signed painting of him. Saw his final tour and although he couldn't solo very well, his vocals were spot on! (Strange) Always had a soft spot for these; I think you should keep it for £175!! That's nothing for such an unusual bass.
16. I also felt the Rickenbacker was a bass to be played with a pick, whereas the Kubicki suited fingers, which is why I preferred it back then.
17. I've only played the 4001 model and I loved the sound and everyone said I look cool as f**k, but it felt strange playing strings that were almost parallel to eachother. I could've gotten used to it until I played an absolute monster of a Kubicki. That said, I miss the 4001 more than the Kubicki...
18. I thought the exact same as the OP and then I picked up one of those cheap Sue Ryder P Basses from a few years back and WOW!! I loved my high performance basses until then, from the Cort A Series to the Marleaux Consat. I don't feel a P can do 'everything', as it can lack that punch at times, but it's definitely a staple to partner with something like a Jazz (or that Marleaux Consat I mentioned ).
19. Don't like the matt black, but I love all short-scale headless basses.
20. Does anyone know if the necks are quartersawn? I think they both sound good, but the large pole pieces detract from the looks a bit. The P is better (of course)
21. Incredible Flame!
22.
Now...a black Strat, rosewood board, chrome Floyd...yes please!
It is bizarre that you can't buy a Fender American Stratocaster w/ Floyd Rose Interested to hear about Kahlers, as that's another one that gets a bad rep...
23. So my friend gave me his Guitar to set up, which has a Floyd Rose Bridge (German Original Model)... I've owned 4 Floyd Rose Guitars in the past, but this is the first time I've had to set one up from scratch. After reading all the hate on the forums etc, I prepared myself for the worst and after using the following methods: https://www.youtube....h?v=5W8GkhvZMp4 https://www.youtube....h?v=V_nOYkRed3I https://www.youtube....h?v=4uPvABrN7sA I was surprised to find that it set up like pretty much any other Tremolo Bridge and probably took me the same amount of time. The only inconvenience with Double Locking Tremolos is the need for Allen Keys (x2), although I have seen brackets to hold them on the back of the headstock. I've come to the conclusion that the main benefit is managing to get through a solo without the string binding at the nut. The extra tuning time cancels itself out, because you rarely have to fine tune thereafter. Can't help but wonder why they get such a bad reputation, it's a nice bit of kit! Bigsbys on the other hand...
24. When playing alone, I find Guitar much more interesting to play than Bass, which is why I bought mine. They all say it's never too late to start learning and I would agree, because it's satisfying to noodle throughout the week. There's tonnes of resources to look to, such as Lick Library, JustinGuitar, Rockschool etc etc I would go for a Yamaha Pacifica if you're buying online, as they're very consistent with their Q/C and I've never played a bad one. You can get an Alder Body version for £165: http://www.richtonem...uitar_black.asp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_erWxfndFfc
