I have passive basses, I have active basses... I have active, passive basses. I have pedals, I have preamps, I have preamp pedals and I have amplifiers... ALL of these things turn the passive electronics into 'active' so I don't ever think about it. If I had to make an absolute choice I'd choose active; it's like passive but MORE!

Output can go; nowhere/personal monitor/combo/amp&cab/IEM/anywhere.

GSS Sumo Monster - That Watts Vs Volume thing?
warwickhunt replied to Jaybeevee's topic in Amps and Cabs
Interested to know the answer as I have backline gear (inc T'funk 550 and a TKS115) but I generally run a preamp pedal into PA. I'd like to have a little Sumo sized power amp for the occasion when cabs are supplied/available. -
Looks a bit 'fickle' to me!

Is 2.4GHz just a no go for you @ped? I only as as units like the Line 6 have a cable tone control to dial back that inherent cleaner top end. I know it sounds daft but if the NUX is 'adding' top end to your overall signal (I know technically it isn't but it is revealing top end maybe), can you not dial back that top end on your Eich combo. I suppose I'm suggesting that the NUX was OK before the combo, so the combo having a clearer top end is the issue!

I now own both the Lekato WS-50 (5.8GHz) and Nux C-5RC (5.8GHz). The Lekato was bought as a 5.8GHz upgrade to my Line 6 2.4GHz unit (which was good but suffering 'occasional' drop out, probably due to the bands I was in moving to digital mixers) and I was very happy and have zero complaints. I've recently however, joined a new band (and resurrected an old band), so felt that the NUX's ability to recharge on the fly if needed, was useful; added to which the NUX seemed a better quality unit (inc the on/off switch). A/B there is nothing in it between the units... literally nothing. I tried them with passive basses, actives (inc 18v), piezo loaded bridges and a bug on a Double Bass; no difference between either unit. I will say that there is a tiny bit of difference (through quality headphones) between the 2 units and a regular 1/4" lead BUT that could simply be that the lead had no boost which the electronic devices must have been giving (they were slightly louder cleaner/toppier). If I could put them on a scope maybe I'd find detail but in everyday use 'nadda'! The NUX certainly feels more premium but on a budget, the Lekato would suit many. However, I appreciate in some situations, certain basses/equipment appear to not work as well with some units but I couldn't replicate any issues that others had. £50 v £150 (approx) you pays your money...

If you are talking radio gear for bass (as opposed to IEM); I've been using the Lekato WS50 (5.8) for a year and never had a drop out, I'd say the signal is actually 'slightly' cleaner/clearer than a cable. I've upgraded to the £150 NUX unit just because I've been impressed with the 5.8 frequency and I feel I'd like the security of a more robust unit... though it isn't to say the Lekato won't have continued to do a great job! NUX arrived yesterday and will be gigged tomorrow night.

My Lekato 5.8kHz have done me well for this last year but I'm upgrading (new band, better gigs) and I'm going all 5.8 and bought the NUX unit and I'm waiting to get my MiPro MI58 IEM delivered.

Sennheiser? I never feel like they need any EQ direct from the desk so it may be the mid dip that I like.

I've struck lucky in that the Sennheiser 100 factory shape is a 'very' good fit for my ear; other brands just haven't had a good seal and/or have been bulky. My first foray into IE was with the KZ10s but I was having lots of other issues around the whole set up, so the tone of them etc was secondary and I was considering customs. Luckily I hit on the Senn IE and they are a great fit and I like the sound of them (I'd gone back to the KZs and found them a little harsh at similar volumes).

I've just joined a new band (INXS UK) and the need for better (than my £50 Lekato) IEM has me taking the plunge and I've opted for the MIPRO MI58! The package includes MIPRO's own IE which I don't really 'need' but as it was a package deal I couldn't omit them. The good thing is that they are meant to be similar to my now preferred Sennheiser 100s... I shall report back when they arrive.

A quick question for the Mods/Admin - Is there a way to check if there was a problem with the system bouncing/refusing a payment for Basschat 'supporting member' payment? I attempted to pay via my credit card on 30/10 and the payment was denied several times. I contacted my card provider (Santander) and they said it wasn't down to them, it was the BC system that was at fault; I later paid by debit card. I'm now instigating a complaint re my card provider as it has denied more times than accepted over the last few months and they say it is not their system at fault. It would set my mind at ease that there wasn't an inherent fault with the payment system and that it was almost certainly my provider's fault. Ta muchly.

1. I know there are a lot of xVive owners/users/fans but I found the cheap as chips Lekato 5kHz systems (IE and guitar T*/R*) to be better, so I assume it is down to frequency rather than component cost. 2. I've found our CQ12 to be a revelation for quality AND ease of use in comparison to a couple of other systems I've used/been put through. Again not saying it is the best ever by any stretch but I'd not trade up... at this point!

Why Do I Have To Change My Password Every Few Days?
warwickhunt replied to Chienmortbb's question in Site Issues and Questions
Never changed my password from 'xy5r8)/n<**h34@{!' in the whole time of being on here! In seriousness... not ever. -
Result!

Handy 'possibly' but I've not figured a way to play bass in the mix and adjust controls remotely; I can get by. Not a negative having the 3 controls but it is back to the cost v gain; would I pay several hundred for the benefit? I generally adjust each discretely and as for 'pan'... hmmm not really adjusted that often! LOL

I don't regret getting the 12 but if money were no object the 18 might have been nice to have for the extra channels, I'm not sure for my use whether those 'smart-knobs' would be uber useful.

I have the CQ12 and I have one of the 'buttons' set up as a mute button for the output... just for emergencies.

Over the last 40 years I've probably averaged 40 gigs a year (most years) but at a peak I did 84, these were mainly pub gigs. I am guilty of falling into a trap where I thought gig quantity was a measure of how good I was/we were; it took me a LONG time to realise that I'd developed a mind set of 'gigging' being the norm. It isn't now btw! Saying that I'm in 3 bands and a duo now but none of these bands are pub bands per se (tributes to bands I like/love and a band of old best friends) and in the duo I vet pubs/venues as I'm not playing to smacked out cockwombles and idiots.
