  1. This, or something similar. Black Precision (in this case my JV Squier), maple neck, BWB scratchplate, passive, pickup on the aggressive side of vintage. 8lbs.
  2. A shrewed investment, for sure
  3. Typical. Someone posts a useful suggestion and every tries to make a Djokovic.
  4. This is an interesting vid. The chap progressively cuts bits off the body until he has approx 30% left to see how it affects sustain and tone. Obvs same wood, not different, but interesting nevertheless.
  5. They wrote one of my favourite love songs. 'Backseat Education'
  6. Check the handle before changing any bits. Seriously. My old Compact used to buzz annoyingly and I tracked it down to the handle vibrating.
  7. Yes, I neglected to update this thread but managed to acquire, courtesy of @pst62 Pete one of the Classic Pro basses that weighs just 8lbs. Like you, I had a USA one and, like, you, would say this Epiphone stacks up nicely against it. Were I to change the headstock decal (which I won't) I would guarantee no-one would notice the difference.
  8. The only time I've been aware of someone using one is watching vids of The Knack playing My Sharona. Which doesn't add anything of value to the discussion but I thought I'd say it anyway 😊
  9. So glad you are still enjoying it, Ben. It deserves to be enjoyed.
  10. I had one of these. In fact I went to great lengths to get it as it was a particularly lightweight example. Absolutely fantastic basses that ooze quality. The tone from the single pickup is delightful. Fully open there is an almost Rickenbacker quality to it, roll it off and you are in vintage bass territory yet not Fendery. They look brilliant. i was very sad to let mine go but that sticky out flare of the slab body was just exactly where my forearm rests and I found it uncomfortable - but that is just me and my particular way of wearing and playing it. I'd say the price is fair, too. given the good honest condition. Most people would pay this or more for a Fender of the same vintage and this is as good/better than most I have tried. Anyone remotely interested should jump at this as they don't come around that often.
  11. I did this to a neck that had a back bow but truss rod not turning any more. Worked a treat, albeit a bit scary.
  12. FWIW (which in the context of discussion is precisely zero :)) I really like the Big Al bass shape. I'm a big fan of mid-20th century design and this looks very 'retro/50s/atomic' inspired to my eyes, although I am not sure the headstock matches particularly well. Black with maple neck looks great (of course, doesn't it always? :))
  13. This worked for me, too. Cheap and easy fix.
  14. I've ordered one of these Lekato straps, they do look good and it is half the prioce of the Marooschick ones I currently favour. Thanks for flagging them up!
  15. Peter Green, of course. Here an alternative recording of 'Need Your Love So Bad' with organ, not strings, extended solos and an end, not fade out. His voice is sublime.
  16. Well, heres a plan then....
  17. I'm going to be following this thread... great idea. Some great, great songs so far. Here is one of my favourites. Blue Jean Blues, the Jeff Healey cover of a ZZ Top song. ZZ Top's original is moody and understated but I love the solo in this version when it winds up around 2:35 in. Makes the hair stand up on my neck
  18. Yup. Couple from 1970 - Deep Purple with Black Knight and black Sabbath with paranoid. But, yes, also OGWT. Pirate radio stations. My mate Clive who used to borrow his older brother's records. My mate Bill who just seemed to have bought whatever was cool before anyone else.
  19. Paul S

    P-bass

Worth considering Aguilar AG4P-60. They give a lush, warm, vintage tone.
  20. Speaking of Hush, this cover is rather spendid imo
  21. Atlantis. Never played there, think we'd have gone down well.
