1. Thank you for the explanation - it has made a lot of it much clearer. I hadn't even considered wired in ear but would think the logistics of that must be difficult to work out. I hear what you are saying about getting what you pay for but my only viable option is wireless, cheap and licence-free because the reality is that lots of money isn't in the frame yet. Any other cheapskates out there living with T Bone?
2. One of my bands are talking over the idea of using IEMs and we have kind of decided that, if we do it at all, we'll dip our toe in the water at the budget end of the scale to see how we get on with it. Our drummer uses T Bone in another of his bands and reckons it is ok, so that is what we are probably going to try. Reading on here seems to indicate it is actually the earphones that are the most important bit, rather than the transmitter/receiver bit. As usual it has fallen on my lap to look into it but, frankly, I have no idea what I am looking at and am really confused - so please help!! I have had a look at the T Bone stuff and see different models - 75, 100, 200 - and also the difference frequencies. What practically speaking are all these differences? Thanks in advance. Paul
3. Ah, I see. Sorry, I don't know. They are 'old-school' and 'woody', if that helps...
4. Andy - it is sometimes called the 62 re-issue model. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Original-1962-Precision-Bass-Pickup-/181261985220?_trksid=p2054897.l4275 My latest Precision came with one fitted and, for the tone I am looking for, it is even better than my previous best and favourite, the Wizard Trad. I am wondering what my other P will be like with one in.
5. That's the trouble with GAS - once you get an idea in your head you can't just lego of it.
6. Anyone having a 'bits' clear out?
7. And ree-plyed Still looking.....
8. Or, indeed, if you have one/some to sell, I am in the market. Ta.
9. Just listed, silly start price of £39. Collection only, Newcastle. I have recently bought a fretted one - these are top end of the range, set neck, sculpted body, brass hardware including the nut. Medium scale. Great tone. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bargain-Fretless-bass-with-new-flatwound-strings-/111402251697?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item19f01775b1 This could be a real bargain!
10. As per title. I have a Wizard Trad fitted to my bitsa Precision but would like to swap it for a Fender '62 Original. If anyone fancies doing the reverse, give me a holler! Ta Paul
11. I was there! Black Sabbath were brilliant, big surprise Ozzy was singing ok! The sound, when it was running ok, was very good. Geezer's bass was stunning, they played a killer set. Horses for courses, I thought Soulfly were terrible - not my thing more than a quality issue. Motorhead went through the motions, poor old Lemmy's hands were trembling badly all the time. I enjoyed Soundgarden, not familiar with too much of their stuff but I thought they played well. But for me Faith No More were a revelation. Not seen them before, only slightly familiar with their material so by no means a fan, but they were razor sharp. Played every note like they meant it. I loved the image, the whole set dressing of white sheets and flowers, the priest outfits, the fact they all (except the drummer) look like they left their city jobs and dressed for the gig. Mike Patton was so completely on the money - hit and held the notes every time, great presence, spat out lines from The Exorcist and the rites of Exorcism here and there. It was a monumental front man performance backed by a tighter than tight band. Food choices were good, free water, not enough toilets. I drove up - parked in the Q6 car park, got back home without a single second hold up. Great day out.
12. I had a Silver Series Squier P Bass for a while and it was absolutely lovely. I kind of wish I hadn't sold it. What colour is your one, Rog? Any pics? The main difference is the scale length, which on this is 32" compared to 34" on the Silver Series - in that last pic you can see the longer 34" scale length 'typical' P Bass. I find the medium scale length particularly comfortable to play, don't know why as I don't have short arms or small hands. The neck is similar width to yours - narrow by P Bass standards at 40mm. The body is very slightly smaller and quite a bit lighter. As I recall my Silver Series was around 8lbs, no heavyweight by any means, but this is around 7lbs. This has had a pickup change done - now sporting Fender Original - and I'd say the Silver Series pickup sounds more like this Fender Original - one of the best things about the Silver Series Precision is the tone. They were made about 10 years apart, too - this is an '84, I think Silver Series were '93/94 or thereabouts? Similar build quality between this and Silver Series, too. I've read that later 80s ones weren't so hot but they returned to form when producing the Silver Series. Certainly the Silver Series Precision and Jazz I have owned indicate this is so, both were fine intruments. I actually think it terms of value for money the Silver Series Precisions are unbeatable - I paid nearly twice as much for this fella as I did for the Silver Series. But, then again, I don't think they made many of these medium scales so I guess that commands a premium. I am glad I jumped - I was hesitant to start with.
13. ... to my advantage. This is a 'good strap' for sure. Probably the best of the ones I have tried recently, including the comforrtttt strrappp and some leather ones.
14. Thanks all. Here are a couple of pics. Here enjoying the sunshine And here lined up to show how the scale length varies: L>R my bitsa P Bass, new medium scale and short scale 'Mustangmaster'
15. Bought a Mono strap from Ant at a good price in easiest of transactions. Can't ask for more than that!
16.
His very efficient colleague Sian has called me saying that yes, they can do what you want. I've PM'd you her number
And replied, thank you sir Coin cards, beer mats, CD inserts, too! round is the new square!
17.
Get some made into beer mats and give them to some pubs... they would look cool.
Indeed, I was thinking along those lines, too. Slightly different version here:
18.
Love your tender, love you true.
thangyavermurch
19.
Although i work for a printers we use a company called Aubergine Print to go this sort of thing (we dont have the cutting facilities for round corners or cards) http://www.aubergineprint.co.uk/
Thanks for that, Dave! Could be the one.
20.
If you make them look realistic you could leave them lying around all over the place and people would pick them up. Or it may be easier (and cheaper) to make them look like folded currency notes, then people would definitely pick them up! And they'd also fit into the same spaces as regular business cards. You can have these ideas free, gratis and for nothing...
What can I say? Branding tips and everything. We are trying to stick to the one image and the coin, rather than banknote, won despite the complications...
I've passed the query to a chap I know in printing. I know he does shaped cards, but don't know whether he's restricted to templates or can do any shape. I'll let you know his response. He's actually a BC Member, but not sure how often he visits Edit update: He's away on holiday, sorry
Not to worry. Someone, somewhere, will do it I have no doubt.
21. Anyone know or recommend a source for round business cards, printed both sides? Band name is Illegal Tender and the logo is a coin, so I thought it might be cool to have circular coin business cards.
22. Everyone carries an idea in their head of what their perfect bass sounds like, I suppose. For me, my ideal is the perfect Precision and in recent years I've spent a small fortune buying, selling, trying out most conceivable combinations. A casual glance at my feedback tells the story! I have been gradually assembling a bitsa which, until last night, was my go-to bass as it is the closest thing to my perfect bass. MIJ lightweight body, Mighty Mite Jazz neck, Wizard Trad pickup, P-retro, Hipshot A style bridge, La Bella flats. A week or so back I bought on here an '84 MIJ Squier medium scale Precision. White faded to cream, white plate, Jazz width neck, rosewood board, ridiculously light. A previous owner had installed Fender original pickups and it was strung with La Bella flats. Using at home I found it hard to put down. Used at rehearsal last night - it is *the one*. Just perfect. Light and comfortable, I really love the medium scale, the sound is *exactly* the tone I have in my head. Unusually, everyone else in the band commented on the sound. 'Of all the basses you have played this is the nicest' Thought I'd share the joy. Obviously it is horses for courses as this has done the Basschat rounds a bit but, for me, it is my perfect bass. (I'll probably keep the others, though)
23. I spent a lot of time looking for my perfect Jazz bass but, in the end, decided my Precision Lyte did the job for me. P/J pups, stupidly light (7.5lbs) shallow Jazz width neck, active eq. P pickup isolated sounds a lot darker than a Jazz neck pickup, nearer to (but not exactly like) a Precision. J pickup at bridge isolated sounds (to me) like a Jazz bridge pup. Both blended sound near enough to that same sweet burpy blended Jazz tone but a bit darker. Icing on cake for me was fitting a U Retro.
