neck issue on hollowbody bass
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in Repairs and Technical
Wow! Thanks again for all your help. I suppose ,when you see something'different' from the norm basswise, you do start to wonder. Must say that I had a result, as I've been looking on 'n' off for sometime . I expect to get some strange looks, and plenty of comments from the band nxt wk. Now to get the new strings sorted.......... -
neck issue on hollowbody bass
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in Repairs and Technical
Actually, it does look like neck is a bit f***ed I looked at other ones on the net. Wonder how much I'll get stung for adjustment. It's a 'set neck' . Hopefully ,it's not set too badly. It does need new strings anyway, but I don't really wanna fork out a huge amount for a 'bargain bass'. -
I'd agree with that. The fretboard itself looks flat; it's just the bottom edge of the neck that's been kind of chamfered off. Maybe it's supposed to look cool. Give it a couple of years though, and there'll be enough dust in that gap that there won't be a gap any more.
oh, there's dust in there I'm beginning to feel reassured (he says ,crossing his fingers) -
Washburn Status S1000
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to Maverick's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I'm a bit confused I've got one (purchased'88) It's a ''24-fret phenolic neck made under licence from status uk''. What's a ''phenolic neck''? There's me thinking I had this, bright sounding, graphite necked ,headless bass........ -

neck issue on hollowbody bass
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in Repairs and Technical
Well, I managed to track down camera,(and tiny usb lead!!) please advise,if you can I think it looks worse close up,gulp! -
if you're gonna pay for something,I'd just forget about using the amp,and get a recording interface from say line 6 (toneportgx). If you want something more adventurous ,you could go for something like reason or logic. There are thousands of things you can do on those. Free stuff: Audacity

neck issue on hollowbody bass
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks for your replies folks. I will ,at some stage upload a couple of pics. At the moment, my relatively new phone is hopeless with apple macs. So ,when I find my camera, I'll upload. Back to the issue, I think it's a combination of what you've both said. Set/glued neck deliberately (hopefully) det in a certain position, with room for a shim Any more ideas? Cheers -
I have just collected my Dean Cabbie bass in bright yellow. (flea bay bargain) I know it needs new strings. I've played it at different times in the office, and briefly at home to test the electrics. Well, everything feels/sounds ok,but there may be a neck issue. (please tell me it's not too serious ) Condition wise,I'd say it's about 9 out of 10. (Slight corrosion at bridge. No dent's/scratches/chips etc.) However, around the 23rd fret the neck seems to be missing glue towards the pickup. The neck looks like it's rising slightly (gap about the size if a 2p coin) Question is, is this seriously damaged ? Or is it a quick fix by mr. repairman? Things to bear in mind are, if it's too costly to fix I won't bother. Also ,as I mentioned above , it plays ok . Please bear in mind,it's a big hollowbody bass.neck thru, not bolt on . Please advise Cheers

RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to JordanRLS's topic in Amps and Cabs
The thing is, there's no chance of joining a band for a long while yet, what with gcse's. and i think i'm right in believing a 200watt amp would be well above my price range. but there's every chance i could be wrong about anything, which is why im asking
I think you've got a good chance of getting a good deal on here. Don't forget ,you can sell /trade your small amp you have now I know I said 'band situation' , but you know how loud drummers/guitarists are Even when jamming. Good luck with the gcse's and amp -
Well, I've nearly finished my project. Just waiting on strings and a headstock decal. Does anyone know how i can easily darken the rosewood? Let me know what you think.
Yeah,you're gettin' there -

RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to JordanRLS's topic in Amps and Cabs
Don't get anything less than 200 watts ,if you're gonna be playing in a band situation. You've obviously done the right thing by posting here Have a look in the for sale section. Ashdown/peavey/hartke etc.... -
Megadeth 'Two Daves are Back Together'
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to Fitzy73's topic in General Discussion
What can I say about Megadeth?? Quite alot actually... 1st saw them being completely blown off stage at the Hammy o by Flotsam&jetsam (1987?) Then had the misfortune of them being in the way at the Monsters of rock('87 ?) ' (The following week I saw a different M O R lineupi n Germany. Apparently, Mustaine nearly died at donington (literally ) Testament replaced them and were one of the best bands on the bill that day. Fast forward to the mid 2000's, and I saw Megadeth twice at the Asstoria.(correct spelling ) 1st timew ,they were great ,playing all of Peace sells, and more. The last time, they were hideously bad. It was Mustaine & hired band. More life in a crematorium. The behind the music programme on vh1 was good tho'. Slayer are a much better band tho', and are always consistent. When the big 4 do their stuff later this year, I think Megadeth will not be as good as even Anthrax. As for Mr. Lomenzo, did I see him at a White Lion gig at the Old Marquee back in the '80s?
