Hi - I'm putting my Phil Jones Flightcase up for sale. If you don't know PJB stuff, the combos are really compact & use multiple 5" drivers that have a surprising amount of bottom end for their size. Tech specs from the PJB site are: - Model - Flightcase BG-150 Type - Lightweight bass combo,150W output,1CH,5 band EQ,limiter, upward & front facing speakers x 4,Active/passive input, headphone out,DI out,pre-amp out Size - 13.6 x 12.6 x 15.75 inch (H x W x D) Power output - 150W Speakers - 4 x PJB NeoPower Type A Net Weight - 24 lbs / 11 kg Volts - 100 to 240V AC It's in really good condition (I bought it on here & have only used it in the house) & comes with the original box, manual + amp cover. I can't upload pics for some reason at the mo, but I can send you some by e-mail if you're interested. I'm looking for £375 posted - they are currently £595 new at GAK. Here's a review by Ed Friedland - love the double bass bit at the end: - Cheers, B.
I think the Logo looks kinda cool, in a retro-Space 1999 way.
Do have to say the logo is the best bit! -
Satellite guitars and basses were sold in the Kays catalogue (others too? - probably) in the late 70s/early 80s. I have one from there/then with a 24" scale-length. Still works - I just checked. It's not quite as grimy as that P in the OP, and there's nothing left to say where it was made. Should such short-scale basses be tuned as normal I wonder? Maybe it would respond well to being tuned an octave higher...
Is it like this one? My mate brought one of these round my house & now refuses to take it back! It was pretty much impossible to use as a bass, so I put guitar strings on it - better, but still terrible. I was going to take it down the charity shop, but think I'd never have kept playing if this was my first bass - don't want some poor beginner being saddled with it! B. -
Oh great many thanks. The condition is quite good actually couple of minor marks here and there. Any idea where the best place to advertise it is? EBAY?
Why not sell it on here? Prices may be a bit lower than eBay, but once you knock the fees off there's not really much difference... B.

A few of mine: -

Marco Nelson - He played on the Young Disciples' Road To Freedom album (Apparently Nothin' was the big hit) & most of Paul Weller's Wild Wood - lovely rounded boomy tone. Not sure he's done anything for a while.
Chris Hillman (The Byrds) - Some amazing lines going on under all the jangle.
Billy 'Bass' Nelson - Played with George Clinton early on & apparently came up with the word 'Funkadelic'!
Bill Laswell - More known as a producer, but a really solid dubby bassist
B.
I've noticed eBay prices seem quite healthy. Not having ever played one, what are they like for neck dive? The body shape doesn't look like it lends itself to good balance...
They don't really have neck dive, but the balance takes some getting used to if you're used to Fenders. Definitely a great-sounding bass for the cash though... B.

More new Fender models - The 'Modern Player' Series
benebass replied to wateroftyne's topic in Bass Guitars
And the best question is...are Fender now making copies of Squiers?
Certainly looks that way to me - similar stuff going on with the 'Pawn Shop' guitars based on the Squier '51. Not too sure about these - the Tele looks like a '70s Jap copy with the big bridge pickup... B. -
I don't mean them, the other lof kind of laid back melodious hip hop ish
Yeah, really enjoyed that one myself. Definitely one of the most consistent Laters for a while...
And that outfit with 2 drummers were great
Wasn't that the singer from Crowded House?
+1 Get Howard (Bass Doc) to make you one.
+1 here too - his plates are great! B.
Do you have a brother in Aberdeen? Because you use the same avatar...
Well spotted! We probably both nicked it from the same place
Wobble firmly cemented in me the credos that Less is indeed Best when playing bass and it`s still my mantra now.
Totally agree - seen him live a few times & he can stick on a simple riff for ages without losing your interest. His book is well worth a read too... Cheers, B.

Bought some strings from Batfastard in a postal deal. Great guy to deal with - everything went smoothly & a well-wrapped package arrived right on time. Cheers! B.

Went over to the Gallery on a recent trip to London. Unfortunately I had the same experience as the OP & I purposely didn't go near anything more expensive than a Squier. I nearly pulled the trigger on some mail order stuff in the past & I'm not sure I would now after my experience. If there are loads of timewasters through then it might be worth considering becoming a 100% appointment only store - it nearly is anyway with the shutters down & buzzer access... Cheers, B.

Had a trip to London a few weeks ago & had a very similar experience in Denmark Street. Loads of staff looking down their noses at potential customers & vast numbers of tatty overpriced instruments. It's a real shame as it used to be a real treat to go & check out gear that you just couldn't get your hands on up North. Mind you, I also went to the Gallery - the guy in the shop was extremely frosty to say the least & I didn't ask to try anything more expensive than a Squier! Is it a London thing? The shops up in Newcastle may be small, but have friendly staff that are really helpful... Cheers, B.

Thanks for the positive words. Funny the top horn gets a mention - I thought it was a bit pointy at first, but now I think it looks a lot more in proportion than a Jag, which can be a bit 'stubby'. Helps with the balance too... Cheers, B.
Cheers Ben. Good piccies. I particularly like the body shot where you appear in the reflection of all three knobs. Trust it's settling in OK and presumably you're as happy as a man with three knobs.
It's settling in just fine - think I'm as happy as a man with four! Cheers, B.
