Narrowly avoided a Hofner travel bass. It was only £99 and it felt rude not to but I managed bit of self control.

I peed in the same trough as Noel Redding - at the same time! It was at De Barra's Folk Club so hardly an unusual incident. Good gig too 🙂

Oh well - that wasn't very productive. The McKenzies have a black on white label "Mackenzie Professional series' and no other markings, not even a power rating. They are 12", dual cone with a voice coil perhaps 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" diameter and a seep crimson crackle finish frame. And how on earth do spiders get inside a cabinet that is to all intents and purposes airtight and fill it with web?

Well Loudspeaker System Design seemed an obvious solution to the acronym!

I bought a pair of Superdry daps (pumps) with orange soles just for leaning into a monitor wedge! - Pretty much an act of faith in my future 🙂

Hmm... the Celestions are probably well pre-1980, they are in a Phoenix cab. I was given the Mackenzies in the late 80s, but they were probably quite old then - I just copied the Phoenix cab's dimensions. I'll open them up and see if they have any useful markings.

Is it possible to find parameters for old speakers anywhere? I'm thinking of porting a couple of closed cabs but don't want to take apart if there's no point doing so. What information would be needed to guesstimate the parameters - this would let me make a port and experiment with tube lengths.

But then the basses would have to rotate anti-clockwise. It would all become horribly complicated.

Well, Brian Cox is still dining out on being a member of D:Ream (not that he needs free lunches) despite never appearing on their records. I do think it's all down to wanting to ringfence royalties.

It's a pretty exclusive club, what surprises me is that they every let Ronnie Wood become a real 'stone' (after 15 years). Darryl Jones has done 26 years on bass and some of the backing musicians 30.

Guilty secret? I'm really not sure anyone should risk listening to this, my first band practising about 1988, recorded on a ghetto blaster thirty feet from the stage in the huge empty hall at Kenfig Hill Labour Club.

MY mum made me write down all the words to that one, playing it over and again on my little blue and white battery powered record player. Why has he got blue plectrums stuck to his shirt?

Had a first session with the drummer and one guitarist today 🙂 We managed to make a basic showing of most of the songs we had lined up and a couple were within reach of decent. Main thing is we all seem to have a very similar attitude - we all brought 'ordinary' comfy instruments rather than the flashest kit, all happy to play at ridiculously low volume, same taste in music, and all prepared. I did need to here a few things played back to get the groove right, but more practice will sort that. We even managed stay with me which sounded half decent once we realised we were playing it far too fast. Found it very easy to jam along together - my ear is much better than it was, I never used to be able to drop into the right key so easily - that's what practising to the radio does for you! Now, where's the spandex?
