Shock admissions - 2 of 'em. Just caught The Motors 'Airport' on radio 2 (that's the 2 admissions).
What an excellent bass track -well thought out, tasteful, drives the song along - in fact it is the song. Bass is really forward in mix and take it away, the track would collapse.
Well, there we go then -
Just been advised my `National Drivers Offender Retraining Scheme` is postponed for at least 12 weeks. Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse.

Why are all these coronavirus threads appearing in General Discussion? Has it suddenly become music related? Grump over.

Help! - anyone got experience of shipping a bass from UK to France - carriers, likely cost approx, who's good, who to avoid. Any help appreciated.
-
Thanks all - but special mention to @Chownybass, who probably takes the biscuit on this one.
Hardly dare tell you all, but the buyer's drifted off now. Still, very good to know for next time.

Thanks @Chownybass - I was getting quotes from 25 - 80 quid. I'll check out DPD. Do you know roughly how long door-to-door (Mid/south France)??

I bought a GK NEO 410 off of Douglas. Was a swift transaction and a pleasure to do business with. Thanks!

Hi. Any half-rounds/pressurewound strings users here? I have a couple of questions I know that D'Addario and GHS make these ones but is there any other company that make HR/Pressurewound strings? How does it feel and how is a life of those strings compare to flats? I use exlusively flats since 8 years now but maby it's time to experiment a little bit but I need to know if their life is good because I don't wanna change my strings every month. I change my flats every 1-2 years but not less. Thanks in advance

Agreed with short life. They are really flattened/smoothed rounds so they go off like rounds and you're left with strings that do not have the punch of decent flats. I used the D'Addarios briefly on a fretless and took them off, gave them away. Don't bother. I would recommend bright flats if it's the high mid & top you want. You won't get the full ring of rounds but a good top crunch. I use EB Cobalts and very happy. The set on my P are hard gigged and around 4 months old - I can see them staying how they sound now for ages. If I got 1 year I'd be very happy with that, you may get far longer.

Just joined the Darkglass family. The boss even encouraged me to buy it when I said “I’ll think about it first” after boring her for 45 minutes in Andertons 😎

No gig tonight - off to see The Rifles at The Roundhouse.Get to hear @RobertPyne giving one of his pair of Ric 4003s a firm outing. Top night.

Uh-oh. I’ve decided I want to start experimenting with different preamp valves in my Spyder 550. Down the rabbit hole I go.....

Anyone available for a gig in Basildon this Saturday? Lots of oldies, and a lot of Eagles songs!

Twenty years TODAY since my last ever cigarette. A real milestone. The 90s always saw me onstage with a cigarette, smoking in the studio or in rehearsal. 100% willpower and positive mental attitude.

That twang of annoyance everytime I hear 'Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick' knowing I'll never be able to play it as cleanly as Norman 😅

That's really it then, no more music or bands for me. The vast majority of my gear is sold. I'm left with a bag of cables and one keeper bass (still have another for sale, possibly sold...). 10 years of effort trying to find a 'functioning' band and nothing to show for it. Very much feels I've wasted a lot of time.

NBD Fender Player Jazz in *gawjus* buttercream. Tremendous fun!

Going to make a concerted effort to down size...I'll be advertising some gear next week. If there's anything that you might be interested in, send me a PM.

At a pub on the Isle of Wight and reinforced the fact that I’m really not a fan of “classic rock”...

There is something special about the tone of a 2 band Stingray, had forgotten just how good they play and sound. Just lovely.

No Bass day.
Got everything now. Stopped looking at basses and gear. OK - need a tuner having retired the TC with built-in (for an Aguilar, so no pain). Don't even need strings - totally happy with string choice and even have a new set of the rounds to replace when they go off. And a Hercules stand for the Jazz. That's about it.
How's it feel? Great, really good. Not like I'm skimping with 3 fine basses, 2 or 3 rigs including the newly acquired GB combo. No excuses, just play. Get better, Attack the stuff I'm wary of, confront the weaknesses. There is nothing on Earth so fine as a great bass through a great rig on a good day.-
"because a Chapman Stick is not just for Christmas" That's right - it's for dry lips in winter.
Nice Warwick @prowla. If I was going to be led astray a Warwick 5 could do it. Funny, some here hate Warwicks, don't know why views are so polarised. Mind you, some like weird custom basses with lights on. I don't, there you go.
