  1. I must admit if I ever went back to gigging, I would have ordinarily gravitated towards MB gear.. as someone's already said, Precision & MB just work really well. I'd be torn though, having had a quick blast through a Fender Rumble 100, I would have to seriously consider the Rumble 500 instead. Absolutely loved the sound I got from the 100
  2. I was lucky in the sense that I'd played gu*tar for a few years before I switched to bass so I knew what brands and models would suit the sound I wanted. I'd been noodling away merrily on a borrowed right-handed Tanglewood Warrior, until a call some time later from the borrowing friend that we were both auditioning for the role of guitarist and bassist in a new band the following week! Not wanting to look rubbish, I rushed out to Dawson's in Manchester with everything crossed and managed to pick up a new Squier P Special for around £230. It served me well throughout the first years of the band, and even when I upgraded to a CIJ P it dutifully remained as backup and my at-home bass. Stupidly I got rid of it when the band folded for a G&L which I couldn't get on with and I severely regret it. It had everything I wanted; P sound, J neck. The only thing I didn't love was the colour... Antique Burst If it had been black or white I'd have kept it.
  3. I've managed to dig my bass out this morning after over a year's inactivity and tried to busy myself with Maniac by Michael Sembello. A simple a line as you'll play in terms of the fretting hand but my left hand ran out of steam pretty quickly trying to get the speed right. Feel like it's about to drop off now 😂
  4. Everything else about it is just bang on. Why would you intentionally do that?? 🤮
  5. I'm sure he played the original recorded line on a Hofner 500/1
  6. Mine's due tomorrow- can't fault that
  7. ^^^^^^this (sans the trousers though 🤣 )
  8. @obbm happy retirement! I bought 3 cables from you well over 10 years ago and they were the last cables I bought. Still going strong. Thanks a million!
  9. I remember when Ain't No Doubt came out, it was all over the radio. I picked up on the bass line many years before I even knew what a bass guitar was. Glad I can now give it a good crack. Always been a guilty pleasure that song EDIT: much kudos to GP, he's absolutely phenomenal
  10. If it's your first bass I'd go with the Squier. It's simple to use where the Sire might take a bit more getting used to
  11. That is THE question!! Look at the Precision and the Jazz, you'll see the pickups are different in both, naturally meaning the sound from each will be different. The J v P debate will rumble on until the end of time, the best advice I can give you is go on YouTube and listen to comparisons and see how you feel. Maybe check out your favourite bass players and see what they play. For me, when I think of a pleasing bass sound, it comes from a Precision. It is "the" bass guitar sound to my ears. I'm sure I read a quote saying it's the most recorded bass guitar in modern music history and there's a very good reason for that.
  12. Can't go wrong with the Orange amp... The Fender Rumble series are pretty good amps for the money too.
  13. I've got Pyramid Gold SS flats on mine and they are great sounding - got mine from Bass Direct. I think they come as standard on the German-made models
  14. @pineweasel do you still have this?
  15. @wateroftyne this appeared on the Maruszczyk FB page this morning.
  16. I've read that the preamp can be a bit pants, if generally ok. That can easily be sorted though. Seems a lot of bass for the money
  17. There's a lefty deko for sale for 40 quid in the claasifieds... I've never played a 5 before but for that money it's got to be worth it. But my incoming Jake custom will be ready anytime and 'er indoors may well kill me if we're inundated with instruments. Someone please talk me out of it!!!!
  18. 4 string with low D please!
  19. I've come across a transcription for this song but having never learned to read, I tried to work it out but can't. Would anyone be kind enough to help me tab it please? TIA I've Found Loving - Bass Guitar-1.pdf
  20. Bit late to the party but has anyone tabbed this please? I can't make sense of the dots (i really should have learned when I was younger 😤 )
  21. That's the white-bodied one with a slimmer neck than usual isn't it? I remember seeing them advertised on Guitar Emporium many years ago when I got my 62 reissue.
  22. I'd add that us left handers have probably never had it so good in terms of choice... if it's not doing it for you then get rid. I've got a CV P at home that really needs moving on but I've just not got around to it
  23. I agree. Much as I wanted the J to sound like a P, it just doesn't to my ears no matter what I do.
