1. Am i the only person who LIKES Peter Hook?
2. I ain't never seen one! I've seen P and J 5's but never a 6er
3. I'd love to be able to play "Darling Dear" by The Jackson 5 but it's too freakin' difficult!!
4. I, like many others, had never heard of JJ before i began playing bass. I heard so much about his playing, and having only a passing interest in Motown prior to this, i sat down on YouTube one saturday afternoon and began to learn. His skill and ability is unsurpassed IMO, which makes what happened to him in the end all the more tragic. I think he is the master and i've learned so much from videos of people playing his songs - as well as getting into motown in a massive way. Legend
5. I had a look over on Thomann, there's a fretless Streamer that's tempting me, it's only £150, so having never played fretless, i'm sure i could move it on fairly easily on here if i couldn't get on with it! Definitely tempted! EDIT: RockBass Streamer, that is!!
6. I like the VMJ colour option in black. Wonder if they'll do it lefty
7. It does look pretty sweet, especially with the addition of the Audere preamp. I'm bloody skint though
8. I'd really love to get hold of a Hofner, or one of its less-expensive offshoots, but being a lefty, I'm going to look Macca-tastic and i'm not sure if I'd be comfortable with it yet. It'd help lots too, seeing as i'm a bit on the short side and the Jazz i had looked ridiculous on me
9. Bet you could get a nice Shuker for that money!
10. I've got a CIJ '62 P and it's the best bass i've played
11.
Want one, but i'm a lefty.... BOOOOOOOOOOOOO. No left-handers.
+1, if they did a lefty version i'd have one like a shot! Still, at least they do a lefty VMJ now, which i must get hold of at some point
12. Slightly off topic here, but that Talk Talk - Live at Montreux show was absolutely immense. Fantastically underrated band with an extremely underrated bassist
13.
i thought he was back
He was, not for very long though. Thank god i got my order in before he closed, i'd have been precision-less otherwise
14. if only they made this in lefty! (it's going to be my epitaph) Great review BTW
15. More love for the MarkBass CMD102p here - it's the best bass combo i've played
16. It's difficult to say, as a fellow lefty i've often thought that a CS option is probably the only way to go, but the prices are astronomical - then i discovered Fender Japan and i can more or less get what i want from them You could get a custom build a lot cheaper elsewhere but obviously it wouldn't be Fender and you might find it difficult to move on should you not like it, but on the other hand it is quite a basic design and if you aren't going for bells and whistles it could be more advantageous to get one from a well known builder. If i was thinking about having that particular design, i'd definitely go to someone like Shuker and see how much they priced a build at
17. Really? even more expensive Fenders, like the Geddy Lee? i never knew that!
18. I've read that they are painted on. I've not actually got one myself, but i will be getting one at some stage!
19. It's weird isn't it- but i do honestly feel that if no lefty guitars or basses had ever been produced, the sheer frustration i felt trying to learn right-handed would have forced me into giving up altogether - although having said that i could just turn the righty upside down. Saw a chap doing that once during the 60s, it looked quite good too... now, what was his name... hmm
20. The next cheapy bass i'd like is the VMJ, it's got great reviews and it's about time they expanded their lefty repertoire. I'm defo a Precision guy now, but i reckon if i didn't get on with it, there'd be plenty of takers!
21. i tried RH, but it just felt wrong! The massive down-side is the availability of instruments LH.
22. could've been worse, imagine the uproar if he'd been doing some Carcass covers!! Genital Grinder or Malignant Defecation anybody?
23. You never miss a trick do you, LeftyJ?
24. I've got a '62 P and i'm never selling it. The Capri Orange '62 is extremely rare and i was going to plump for it when i bought mine, but chickened out and got VWH instead. From what i've read of the Jag, the pre-amp is meant to be a bit sh*tty so you might decide to change it out for something else - or you might like it! Never played a 5 so i can't comment on those! Fender Japan recently released a range of '75 Jazzes in lefty and a limited range of colours with matching head-stocks, pick-up covers and tug-bar, like this
25. I'd suggest getting a 75 Jazz, they are highly sought after and are made to a fantastic standard. Plus, they never ever come up for sale (should tell you something about them!) so if you didn't like it, i'm sure someone would have your hand off for it :brow:
