1. Bump!
2. Withdrawn - many thanks for all interest.
3. Please remove thanks.
4. Quite liked the Manics first couple at the time, thought nothing special. Totally loved (and still do) The Holy Bible. One of the best of the last 20 years. Some very nice bass playing on their too - some great lines which I still play around with! Everything Must Go onwards - can't stand them, TBH! Dull MOR that does nothing for me at all. Just my take, there's no band that can be liked by all. I know there's some fans that only like the band post-THB!
5. +1 on the Rics for me. Had a number of 4003's, and the QC was highly questionable on all.
6. Thanks - good stuff - may investigate further!
7. Pics Please Now LOL!
8. Another Geddy-related can of worms officially opened....!
9. I like his tone on the new live album. Still Ged, but a bit less bright than recent live stuff - the Rush In Rio has a very bright tone indeed!
10. They've just put out a best-of which I might well get - don't know too much about them, but I've read some positive stuff in the music mags which has got me interested. I'd love to see/hear more here - any decent youtube links of fave tracks?
11. +1 on Martin. 10mins from me, so very handy! He's worked on a couple of my old basses, and repaired my old guitarists Les Paul too. Very experienced, and a nice man as well!
12. Thanks, but £400 is too low, will take offers, but need better I'm afraid. A couple more bumps and then it's E-bay!
13. First read about this on here a few weeks back, and it still running. The Fender offers - price reductions on certain models - is still on until the middle of January. Just wondering if in these tough times, if anybody has actually bought one, and given Fender some new cash?
14. Bump for interest/offers?
15. Bumpy!
16. Withdrawn - please delete.
17. Replied!
18. Bass now withdrawn from sale.
19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6waLPZkGpQU Steve Hanley, a fantastic P-player. I had the fortune to discuss his tone on this, and some other Fall records by e-mail a couple of years back...and it's P all the way!
20. New album due next year, and according to Ged in a recent interview, the producer is trying to encourage an older-style Rush record...epics were also mentioned. They put out a taster last year, the Caravan/BU2B single. If that's what's called a working retirement, they sound more alive on those two tracks than bands half their age IMHO! 21. I may be in the minority here - but 'S&A' is in my top 5 Rush LPs, maybe even top 3!
22. I love Rush, and Geddy too! I still love his bass work - 'Snakes & Arrows' has got some great songs, and brilliant bass work. I'd vote for 'Far Cry', 'The Way The Wind Blows' or 'Faithless' as parts I enjoy off the top of my head. Yes, his playing and tone has changed, as have the band. But imagine how boring it would be if they still dressed flowing robes and sounded like they did in 1977?
23. I did a dep gig a few weeks back, 24 songs in 2 days! Thing is, I was also juggling my covers band...and then a couple of weeks back, joined a new originals band. More songs to learn....can feel the brain filling up! However, I can put on an old record that I love, or a song I used to play, and normally it's still there. But sometimes you feel like Patrick......
24. There's been a fair bit of posting about picks and pick playing this week on BC. One was mine - been a pick player for close to 20 years - but I've been intrigued by other opinions on the subject. I have started to move across to fingers in recent times in practice simply to widen my skills. However in rehearsal with the band, the bass level went through the roof with fingers against pick. Some opinions on BC suggest that a similar bass-ness can be achieved with a pick via some improved EQ'ing. My question is - any suggestions on the best way to EQ a pick style to incorporate clarity and plenty of bottom end? I've tried simply upping the bass and that didn't help at all! If I can get a better tone from the pick, I'd more than likely stick to it, as after so much time, I'm always going to be at my best with it. I've always used the Dunlop 1mm tortoise shell up until now. Any ideas?
