It looks quite like the Montezuma brown from a few years back....still very nice though. I think it's limited to 25 worldwide according to Guitar Guitar. Ruby is coming in the Summer....2 new colours in 6 months....what's happening in the water at Ric HQ???

I think somebody posted the isolated bass track from 'Subdivisions' here quite recently....have to agree with many above - 'Signals' has some of his best Ric tones (that and 'Hemispheres'). I really like his Jazz tone on the recent 'Time Machine' live album. Agreed it has been a bright on some records, but it sounds good here. I've never been to big on the Wal sound, TBH....love the records (actually, love all the records!) but if I'm honest, Ged's best bass sound was the Ric, and one of the reasons I play one myself. I'd just love to hear how the Ric would have blended in on recent albums.....imagine it on 'Workin' Them Angels' and stuff....

I think it's more of a symptom of music in the last (....) years that so many journalists still go on about it. I am too young to remember it at source (I'm of '74 vintage), but I feel I've lived through it 10.000 times over with the references, books, articles, etc, that flood everywhere year after year. I've got quite a few records of the era - loads of classics (Stranglers, Buzzcocks, etc.) but were they even punk bands in the first place? As for being a good thing, I'm 50/50 - I often think that maybe it sent music back to a state to where it has never recovered - a status of 'cool' over a certain style, and burying a lot of progression into the 'uncool' bin. Bands still trying to live off it 35 years later! I do love a lot of records of the era, but would have probably been lynched at the time for my fondness of the Mahavishnu Orchestra and some Yes records!

Perhaps the OP should have just bought a Precision instead!

The viking ship on the back of 'The Raven' is still in Ramsgate where the picture was taken! I'd read about it, but wasn't sure where it was - played a gig there, and coming back in the early hours of the morning....there it was all lit up! Best JJ bits - just anything where he's audible for me! Up to '83....perfect. Lesser on record thereafter, but live last year he was a revelation. Best live bass tone I've ever heard. They opened with 'I Feel Like....' from the second album..it was like an earthquake! I recently bought the '77 Hope And Anchor release from EMI on download. Any JJ fans should check it out - great songs, great playing....timeless band.

I'm the bassist in an originals band.....and we need a new drummer. Material is rock-y, late 60's Who-ish kind of vibe. First album released last year, second being recorded now - and we need a new drummer to be a part of it. Rehearsals take place (normally) in Ashford, but we are quite flexible. We do a few covers for gigs (Jam/Stranglers, etc) but we are an originals band, and that's what we stick to! Got lots of plans for 2012, so commitment is the key word. I've had my Markbass 121P amp and cab set-up for about 2 1/2 years now - great sound, and loads of power. Biggest plus is the weight - coming from a former Trace Elliot owner.....it was a complete revelation!

I'll never fail to be amazed at the first time I played a P in a band situation.....it just made all my previous basses sound weedy....I could actually be heard with minimal effort! I briefly had a VM-P, and that was a great sounding bass as well. Maybe not finished as well as the more ££££ models, but at about £255 new, there's certainly no drawbacks in my book. I only sold it on after acquiring another P, otherwise I'd probably still have it. Good bass!

I've just watched it on Youtube! Thanks for mentioning - I'd have missed it as I never really watched The One Show!

+1 to those who said the 201 made the action difficult....I fitted on to my (now sold) 70's Jazz - difference was slight in sound, but it looked fantastic. But the action was a bit of a nightmare - I love my action really low, and in what has already been mentioned above, could not achieve that with the 201. My E string looked to me like I should have been firing arrows from it.

I'm a Jetglow fan - had other colours, but on my 2nd JG now. I'd wait until the Summer and get a Ruby...!

Never got the Jazz thing...owned a few, but they never seem to sound right in my hands for some reason. It's gotta be a Ric for me - as much as I've tried to escape over the years, I just can't, and I suppose it's really 'my' bass. +1 on the Precision - if I'm not holding the above, it's P-bass all the way. I've come to the conclusion that nothing works better in the mix of any band or style that the ol' P.

Road Worn instead? Of the highest Mexican quality....maybe better QC than the USA?

Anyone know when exactly the increase is going to happen? Just had a quick scan on the 'net - the Road Worns are nearly £1000! Couple of years back they were far less..... With wages being worth less, and everything else going up, who's going to have the cash for a new bass with yet another increase?

After a bit of a clear out, I'm in the market for another P-bass....was looking at USA models, but now not really too sure after this! I've noticed the new Classic 70's are MIJ.....surely they have to be more consistent?

When I saw him last year, his Shuker (+ whatever amps) sounded very like the 'Black And White' tone to me. I've never heard sound an insane live bass sound - it was awesome!

Don't forget the Karate chops - intrinsic to the overall tone.
