Total shame - one of my faves....I've got all their stuff, even the hardcore, the instrumentals....love it all. Such a creative bunch....I've always admired how they genre-hop whilst keeping it real and not clichéd. 47 is no age.

I've sent loads of basses before with couriers, but..... I've agreed to sell my Brother's Marshall (guitar) 30w amp for him. I'm getting it on Sunday, so may put it on BC as well (comes with an equally mint Epiphone Les Paul in a flight case as well!) Probably end up on E-bay.....fine, but how on earth do I package an amp for a courier? I've only ever sent basses in hard cases - so I'm not quite sure how to do it. It hasn't got any original box or anything with it, so any suggestions as to what I can do?

I'm a fellow 2 Ric man. Once you go Ric, it's really hard to play anything else. Everything just feels boring and 'wrong' to me. In my experience, most people who knock Rics - 1) Have never played one 2) Always wanted one but haven't got one 3) One of the above Let the Ric-knocking commence!

Always use Stringsdirect or Stringbusters - the only places to buy IMHO. Great prices and superb service from both.

Chris Squire - Roundabout isolated bass track
spongebob replied to molan's topic in General Discussion
Maybe we'll get the full 'Gates Of Delirum' isolated bass track soon...mmmmmmm!! -
+1 on S&A from me. I'm a big supporter of that record.

I own two Rics. For the band, there's limited choice.....that one, or the other one (though they do sound very different to me). Job done!

I had a great one, but sold it to fund my return to a Ric. If I'd have got the spare cash, I would have kept it - wonderful bass. Probably the best P-bass I've played.....and a great price as well!

OMG - that's just Ric porn to me!
To fatten the sound of (pre-2011) 4003s this capacitor needs to be removed or bypassed I'm led to believe. It acts as a hi-pass filter on the bridge pickup cutting off the lower frequencies.
I thought people stopped doing this after the late 80's? I'm aware of the mod for the 4001/early 4003, but you haven't had to do this to the newer Rics for years.

+1 from me as well.

Maybe we should all form some kind of uber-reliable bass orchestra....

Thoughts and best wishes to Levon Helm
spongebob replied to wateroftyne's topic in General Discussion
Brilliant musician, and from what I've read, Levon's a lovely man as well. Such sad, sad news. The Band's records are timeless classics IMHO......they were a true 'band' in every sense, as you can't imagine their part being done by anyone else...they certainly created magic together. -
Why are bands always like this? My current band is, at the moment, causing a bit of grief as I am the only one doing anything. I don't mind, but I joined them - and since then, singer/guitarist does nothing except talk about it, and the drummers been out of circulation for ages. We've ended up with a 6-week gap between rehearsals. The singer/guitarist has funded an album (already a bit started when I joined, so a good plus point I thought) but when he finally gets it, hasn't got a clue what to do with it. I've done the webpage, FB, started trawling for gigs, and the other 2? Nothing. And I'm pretty miffed by it TBH. At least here on BC there's a lot of us in a similar position!!

I love Rics, and they're my basses. No Geddy's or Chris'....I love what I do with them. The whole product - look, feel, tones..... Any other bass just feels wrong with me, and I've tried enough - but I always come home. Then again, I'm an unapologetic Ric fan-boy!

Quite enjoyed a bit of the Lynyrd Skynyrd gig....managed to avoid Freebird as well!

Hope I'm posting this in the right bit....not sure if it's GBD or OT! About 2 years ago, when I played in my last originals band, there was quite a few opportunities in the Kent/SE area for Battle Of The Bands-type events. I played a load in Sheerness (at the Ivy Leaf), Bexleyheath at the OHM, some place in Gravesend, and a few others. Oh, and 1 in Sittingbourne if I remember. I've tried to search online for similar events these days - but all I get is dead links, or out of date events. I'm kind of scouting around for gigs to coincide with the album being finished, but so far I'm not doing to well. I booked lots of pub gigs before for covers bands, but I've not done too much on the originals side for a bit. Any suggestions on people/places/venues? Just want the exposure (ahem)...but where? Are these kind of events dead?

Cool - thanks for the link - that's a great package and one I'll go for!

I can't wait to hear it - I really love all their albums, and rate S&A very highly. Out June 12th - a bit more info here - http://www.rush.com/rush/index.php

I did a similar thing some time ago. Had some issues with some more expensive gear, and bought a couple of cheapies to drag around. Soon missed 'my' sound, and as soon as I was headed near a studio, had to get it all back! Good advice above - if you can afford it, keep it all!

Got my stolen bass back after 11 years wait.

Great story - well done getting it back my friend. Don't think about selling her again, though..... -
Rocket Juice and The Moon !!!!!!!!!!
spongebob replied to jojoagogo234's topic in General Discussion
It's an intriguing prospect....but something about Damon Albarn always slightly narks me! He just comes across as a man in search of authenticity.....bit like each thing is his latest fad. Perhaps I'm being hard on him, and TBH I'd like to hear the album. Maybe he a genuine guy! -
Christine Sixteen by Kiss??? Lyrically, a song on very dubious ground!

The originals band I joined towards the end of last year is currently making the finishing touches to an album, due for release around May. There's a lot of talk about how to get the 'product' out there - it's a iTunes/Amazon digital release. I suppose the idea is to get some kind of unsigned radio play, etc. Band is based in Kent area. Any suggestions on where exactly to go on this? I'd love to hear from others in a similar/more advanced position. The web is great, but where do you start? Is there an unofficial list of places to contact, etc.? I've also struggled a bit on the gig front - last time I was doing originals (about 2 years ago) - places seem to have vanished! Don't want to drag around the pub circuit, so where can we go with it? Just after any suggestions from BC'ers here - help me impress the band with ideas!

Led zeppelin and black sabbath just dont do anything for me !
spongebob replied to gub's topic in General Discussion
I've never really liked LZ that much, just never clicked with me. However, I do love a bit of the Sabs. Brilliant albums, I even love 'Technical Ecstasy'! 'Never Say Die' is a brilliant album, I've just always loved it although it gets a really bad press. Geezer can't apparently remember using a Ric on parts (if not all) of the album. He said a few years back that he'd only used one for a single gig (the 'NSD' gig on video), and that he'd always recorded with Precisions in those days. That's another thread! Intro to 'Junior's Eyes'? No question! I'd probably for for 'Volume 4' as my favourite overall. I just love the sound of their records as well.
