  1. Black or brown is Live, blue is Neutral, and yellow/green is earth. Check that earth is connected to earth. Do not ever mix yellow/green with any other wire. The two others do not matter, although Live in the wall should be on the right side, and Neutral on the left.
  2. A slight correction, according to the serial this is from 1995.
  3. Thank you, Sir Dial N, the pics made me think of an idea I need to try out.
  4. @Stub Mandrel writes stuff that should be founded easily from some place here. Likewise we already have detailed IEM handbook by @EBS_freak Do you all think there should be a place here with writings of the basic things we are asked on a monthly basis?
  5. Didn't Springsteen's bassist have a fretless Longhorn?
  6. In case you need any thoughts about separate comps: www.ovnilab.com/
  7. Is there an old Neutrik Silent Plug involved? There were few issues with them in the early days. Other than that the cable may be lost because of misuse (speaker cable), or too much and hard bending.
  8. Ear is not so sensitive to the distortion in the low frequency area. This way the tube compression makes the unit seem (hearm?) louder, although the "more" is produced in the area of distorted output. The same amount of distortion in a solid state amp sounds worse because of the harmonics that are different. They just sound bad. You can find lots of info about this with a little bit of searching. Remember: Watt is not the same as loudness (expressed in decibels, dB), although they are faintly connected.
  9. Definitely not. It is not so uncommon that headphone amps have some intentional tone colouring. Line out is by definition very honest to the source.
  10. Phones is an output with powerful enough amp to drive headphones. Line output is designed to drive an amp input, and its level may be adjustable, or not. It has not power to drive headphones. Maybe you will hear something but the level is really low. You would need an extra amp between the unit and the headphones.
  11. So you could buy 12 Countrymans (Type 85) for the price of one Behringer! (The right price is £18.30)
  12. Contact tce. When I have had issues (only few), I have received very good, if not excellent, customer service from the manufacturers.

    TC Spectracomp

HG mini has three knobs instead of one, and has been the other HG I have. After finding Spectra presets from some German page, I have used those presets as a base to my slightly tweaked settings.
  14. I, too, have had a few instruments. The band I am playing the most (and have been since 1990's) has seen fours, fives, and fretlesses. Even two double basses. Last three, four years I have been thinking that I have found my sound. Well, a month ago we decided to play standards. I suggested that I could play few songs with my old EUB. Now they just want THAT, and asked me to leave my electric bass at home: "That's The Sound." OK, fine, I think it is about playing style and certainly the sound is different. I am still a bit unsure whether I can play all the stuff only with upright (from Motown to RATM), but at least my bandmates have found "my sound".
  15. Lutes, gambas, and some double basses have been fretted. The frets are some kind of fabric. Do some search, and tell us, too.

    TRADED

This could only be slightly different with all black hardware, but a very, very good looking J. The next owner will certainly like the serial, and hopefully this beauty is light.
  17. Quickly and quickly... if the 3-pos. switch is in between the pickups, the change can be done while switching the right hand position from frets to fretless and vice versa. While I mentioned the left and right hand necks (and @PaulThePlugused the right word, "reverse"). check this Jonas Hellborg's Wal: http://walbasshistory.blogspot.com/2014/07/wal-double-neck-basses.html I wish you will share the pics, when your monster is ready.
  18. Is the body's shape from the mountains, or has it something to do with Jeff's solo progress?
  19. What is that you are actually looking for? What is your "3 way speaker"? Peak wattage tells very little about the elements, the tuning or the suitability to bass use. Please be a bit more specific, and you sure get decent answers.
  20. First of all, the price is on the low side. Expect to use cheapo units. Check harley bentons or diy kits at T-shop. A double neck is one big and heavy unit. If you want to try to reduce the distance of the necks, you may try left and right hand necks (if the tuners are in line). If you can position them closer, the body size can be smaller and lighter. A chambered body would help, too. A three position switch may be useful for changing sides.
  21. One thing that I have found is that I only use two bands, the low and the high. I have omitted the whole band, or "clean". It creates more issues than helps with my sound. Comb filtering etc. If you need a comp, please try a multi-band comp after the X-over, or at the end of the chain. tce Spectra, or HG are functional examples.
  22. Shouldn't the ring be fit to your thumb? I can see no benefit having those parts anywhere else than in the thumb and index/middle finger?
  23. I have a IE Xero in front of it. For fun it's - yes, fun. Tracks incredibly well.

    Bits of Wal…

Dear @Bunion, Has that dark fretless been yours since new? When was yours made? I have seen pretty similar one with whiter stains in my earlier life. Kool, unlined fretless. That Wal of yours is simply fabulous.
