1. YouMa, that is quite true. Main piece of advice, as much as the open E sounds good, remember, there are other notes, strings and shapes than root, minor 7, octave.
2. You jammy bastard. £350, for that?
3. Kev, have you ever played EUB's or double bass before? I had a try of a DB once, as a very young person at Mable Fletcher Music School, 1986, I think and it frightened the bejeezus out of me. My wife wants me to get the real thing and not a EUB....PLEASE HAVE A WORD WITH HER.
4. That bass makes me smile every time I see it.
5. Form your own band. +1 to most advice here.
6. I like to see things getting drilled.
7. Me too, welcome Dutch bro.
8. Jamie Lidell, an absolute talent, check out his Supercollider stuff. Lady GaGa, is what Madonna would always have wanted to be like, articulate, classically trained and sexy as f***.
9.
Yeah - as the question goes, is the music scene at an all time low?? Online downloading just seems to have killed off bands making money and even touring bands are not exactly rolling in it. Why are there no new decent bands appearing?? The music scene is SO commercialised now, it's depressing. Any thoughts...am I alone in feeling like this?
No, it's just you. Touring bands have never been rolling in it, only the big draws make big money. There are decent band appearing every day. The music "scene" which you describe is commercial, that's because you listen to commercial music.
10. You played at the Barfly last year, Liverpool, you didn't have this rig, how come you're selling such an awesome piece of hi-gain ass?
11. Oh, bum conkers, I want that Malekko but it's too dear for me. It's the bright I want, not the dark. Nad batter.
12.
Pair of Eltax Liberty 5+ floorstanding hi fi speakers for sale. Rated at 100 watts RMS each (or 150 watts music power),4 to 8 ohms, freq response 40 to 22000hz. Bi-wiring capability (4 spkr posts per cab), rear ported, panel for optional sand damping ( though never used this! ). They sound great - have'nt been driven hard (as I live in a terraced house!) Only selling due to downsizing my system. Both speakers are absolutely immaculate and indistinguishable from new. When I bought these 3 years ago they were on offer at Richer Sounds for £120, think the retail was around £200 then. Am looking to replace them with a pair of speakers that are a max height of 40 cms/16" (to fit in my bookshelf) so any swaps out there? Or will sell for £50 - bargain!
I have a pair of these in the cellar and they are great, if they where teak I would defo have them, to match. Bi-wire them and bang a beefy amp through em, they're brill.
13. What does the stereo speaker do?
14. I have an SVT 6 Pro and an SVT 410HLF. And I'm beginning to feel a bit foolish about it. I did my research. But I suppose after 15 years absence from bass playing, I was fixated with all things Ampeg. So, I bought it. And, to my ears, it sounds alright. Now, fumbling through bass forums, I find the world has moved on. Ampeg seems to have slipped a good few rungs on the ladder of low-end. Now it's all Eden, EBS, and Aguilar. What do you think? Does Ampeg suck bass balls compared to the rest? Will anyone leap to its defence? Is there a lone soul out there who's put an Ampeg up against an EBS and thought it trounced the Swedish upstart? Or should I admit my brand-loyal naivety, axe the Ampeg, and buy stuff beginning with 'E'? Back to the O.T. You've got some great gear there Sir, enjoy it. No for the "experts", a quick question. How many of you have actually owned, gigged/toured and recorded with Ampeg? If you have, then you can have an opinion, if not, then you know little or nothing about which you speak.
15. I want to go and put the kettle on but I may miss something utterly dull.
16. You can get a good P bass tone but I find when both pickups are on, ie, in the centre position, the tone doesn't seem as good as either pickup soloed. I like the bridge pup with a little bass boost and only use the powerful mid control very carefully, as it can overwhelm. The main thing I like about the bass is that is such a great instrument to play, making lines jump out because the tone is so even right across the board.
17.
I wipe down after every gig with a microfiber cloth and polish on a regular basis. I use it on everything.... varnish, fretboard, hardware and strings. There's probably some secret guitar rotting chemical in it but to date it works for me. I love the feel of my freshly polished guitars - especially the strings.
Mr Sheen works to polish things by the action of degreasing and as such, when used on rosewood boards, or any other unsealed wood can cause shrinkage because the natural oils of the wood are being removed, this has resulted in cracked and warpped boards and frets becoming loose. In my experience.
18. Mr Sheen is ok for sideboards but it contains silicon, which can be harmful to some surfaces. Massive plus one for microfibre cloths, I use one dry for all places on my basses. The one for the fingerboard is seperate because of lemon oil residue, then when they're dirty, chuck 'em in the washing machine.
19. After playing, I have a brace of teenage filipino girls, each one equipped with Steward MacDonald tools and polishes to deconstruct, polish, reassemble, set up and wax my plank. It pleases me.
20. Is your Superfly head made in the U.K. then?
21. From his telephone number, I can see that he only lives in Wallasey, which is quite close to me. I have a slight SUSPICion who this no Moscow no is. Don't mention the war.
22. Total, total bargain. I have the DM3's from 73 and they are amazing speakers.
23. Twenty quid???
