1.
I wouldn't say a 90s stingray was early! I think they are real workhorse basses though. I personally like them better than jazzes, i like the pickup and the feel of the neck. It's amazing how many tones you can get out of one pickup really.
Yes, isn't it.
2.
Oh dear... Why is there such a huge miss to hit rate with heavier music? Alex
Simple. If you do not, or have not, lived in total persecution, drug enduced creativity, madness, depression, total hedonism, rock and roll!!!, then, you canNOT play heavy music and make it authentic. Pop kids and retards are jumping bandwagons every few seconds......God bless them. This is heavy. http://www.myspace.com/rifffilledland
3.
everybody watch this: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...ideoid=60474107 its the lead singer from this band and he really has no idea what the hell he's talking about!
f*** me, Chris Griffen has dyed his hair.
4. Big plus one.
5. What hifi amp is that, is it a Lumley?
6. I used to record my SVT II into a Marshall 4x12 guitar gab, what a tone. Mmmmmmm.
7. They sound a little underwhelming for their price.
8. Hi there, welcome to Basschat. HAH, got there before Zoe BS.
9. I want to inject them all with polonium.
10. I've just fitted a bone nut and set up a P bass copy for a Basschater. The neck had a couple of high frets and after a slight dressing it is much improved. However, his Squier Jazz which I also set up, dropped the action at the nut, has a slight lift at the body end of the fingerboard, this will need a bit of meat removing from the frets, as altering the truss rod makes no difference in this area. I can't stress enough that a set up done by a good guy can make all the difference and if it needs a fret dressing, so be it. It could be that only a Jazz bass will do for you. Good luck.
11.
I only use DR Lo-Riders these days.
Lo Riders here too. Hi Beams have a bit more give. D'Addario nickels are good also.
12. Find a local amp tech and see if you can do some unpayed work for them in your spare time.
13. Starting to hyperventilate here.... That's loverly. I payed £700 for mine with a broken neck back in 1992, it was a black one and pretty beat up. Being a lefty, I turned it upside down and it balanced really well but the tone, oh yeah baby.
14. I had a pair of Tri 112s, I'm glad I made my money back when I sold them. Presenting the bass world with a 2 way design claiming to be a 4 way, or 3 way in my case, is a classic piece of disinformation, pandering to the OCD traits of modern bassists. Reasonabley made cabs, good components, low SPL.
15. Now that's more like it. Very, very nice and well done on the LabGruppen. The Ampeg pres are amazing.
16.
That's fabulous! I would be happy to just have that lying around to look at, let alone use it...
That's exactly what I was thinking.
17. Hi 73, I can't do a back to back with all the gear, as I have a diferent power amp and cabs but I can hear more detail and more umph in the SVT IIP. Your experience may differ.
18. I had the SVP and sold it in favour of the SVT IIP which I still have and is in my rack, in favour of my Aguilar DB680, which is no slouch but I prefer it with my Stingray. They sound so different, I love my SVT IIP. Look for valves that are happy being saturated, loads of thick lower mids and some sweet highs, the lows are already there due to the design.
19. Pickles and gherkin need attention, calling rslaing for £4.50 joy.
20. I like the red W for WOT in his mouth.
21. Enough of this nonsense, time for this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCAZHm6FgvE
22.
Sonic blue, the magic words.
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
23. Just played along to this, good God, this kind of feel is golden. My bottom lip went underneath my top teeth, while I was jamming to it, then I remembered my funk tool kit, "In case of Emergency, Don't give a funk", all facial expressions returned to normal.
24.
For serious lows at serious SPL I'd always be happiest with a big (though not necessarily heavy) solidstate power amp. That DB680/Crown rig would be righteous. I'd also consider an LH1000 plus a nice overdrive pedal like a Fulltone BassDrive. Comes in at the bottom end of your budget and is devastatingly loud, plus you get to pick exactly the type of grindy second channel you want. Dual power amps allow it to run a pair of 4 ohm cabs but still put out huge power into a single 8 or 4 ohm cab when bridged. All amp heads are so tiny compared to cabs that I really wouldn't worry about what they look like, only you will notice. Get cool/wow cabs instead! Alex
Rob, get a QSC, and a valve pre my friend, I have NO trouble drowning out an entire band....if I so wish to do. Get good cabs too.
