1. Holy moly, that's superb. If I had the means to get this around I'd love it. I want another valve head so bad.
Thx Steve - but I think I prefer your old avatar (Nick Cave)!!!!
Sorted. George has gone back in the album with Norm Watt Roy, they're having a good drink together.
3. Welcome my friend good to see somebody from NYC that plays 4 string MTDs. Great tools you have there.
4.
It is a lovely bass, Nick. I wasn't too impressed when I took it out the case first but I put a set of 35s on it and that just pulls the neck a little more than the 30s it came with. The depth of tone is just great now. Just a lovely bass to play. This is #84. Graham
I know what you mean about the necks, yours doesn't have a truss rod, I'm so glad Rob put truss rods in them later on. Can he retro fit truss rods into the older basses? I know he can replace them in the newer basses.
5. Thanks Nick, it's something I should have bought years ago. It is totally a keeper. I just need my Jaydee back, then I can concentrate on a good Jazz and P bass.
6. Amazing deal, Peavey amp is a star and that Overwater is really lovely.
7. Cheers Martin, it is very nice. Only problem is that new strings need to be without windings to get the silk off the nut grooves. Sound is amazing, not many choices but massive and meaty tone.
8. Traded this with a fine man from Chesterfield. 1980 Musicman Stingray. I love it, it has such a sound.
9. I'll have that crown in 20 years.
10.
Not too sure just yet. Sounds a bit weird I know but the guy offered to buy it straight out, and after a bit of thought I realised there was something of his that I wouldn't mind having that I know he's trying to sell. PM'd him to this effect but he hasn't got back to me yet. Don't expect a problem, just a bit unclear what the deal's gonna be. Did you get a chance to try it BTW? Been meaning to ask.
I saw it but it would have totured me to try it. The Gallery is a dangerous place. That's way I say they are overated because I should have got one 20 years ago.
11. Are you doing a trade, sale or both? Steve.
12. Beautiful bass Rich, I bet it sounds nasty.
13.
Why, is the pup parallel by default? Its not very bassy and with a pick I cant really get that Fugazi sound or even Breeders. The sound of Louis Johnson and Benard Edwards are far from reach too. A great bass though with a lot of presence and I do intend to keep it. just wondering what I can do with it....
You need one of the pre Ernie Ball Stingrays for those types of tones, they sound totally different to the modern basses.
14. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=42641 Nice bass.
15. Nice 2000, nice garden, I need to cut my grass but it's been pissing it down all week.
16. Nice stuff.
17.
Right ladies and gents. What we have here is another one of my fads. A wee story as well. Whilst perusing a upmarket hi fi shop in Glasgow, I got talking to the guy about Linn Sondeck turntables, As I used to be into hi fi years ago I was asking him how much they go for now. As they are the Ferrari of the turntable world I knew it would be a few bob. He mentioned 14 and 16. I realised that he was talking about 14 thousand!!!!! The guy has speakers at £35,000 for flucks sake!! So I ended up buying a ex demo turntable off him, a Pro Ject Debut 3, for a bit less that the above and went and spent £40 on secondhand vinyl. Set it up at home thinking, groovy, just like the old days, so I got out my tin and skined up....Naw only kidding. I lost intrest in 2 days and now need shot of it. It is almost new condition, has an ortrafon cartridge and plays 45`s and Lp`s. If you come round you can hear it playing Dark side and it`s true, it does sound better on vinyl. The same turntable will cost £190 in Richer Sounds so a bargin is too be had. Pm me if intrested. Jez
Great turntables my mate has one and it's amazing. I think Sondecks are a little cheaper than that. I owned one a while back and they are great. Ferrari would be Simon York, Clearaudio, maybe a new Max Townshend. I own a Project Classic with a nice cartridge, does me.
18.
to be honest, I'm pretty annoyed that people automatically think that because people are young, it means that they're rubbish! EDIT steve-soar that wasn't directed at you!
It's alright, I didn't start till I was 19.
19. Nothing, The Kids Are Alright.
20.
Well, I don't agree with you there! I think that if they're at that level, then you should push them onto new lines. I have no doubt that Zoe is a very talented bassist (by listening to her other tracks) and that she could nail this one with a bit more practise. The important thing is that she also knows that - which she does. I expect there have been many times (especially after making this) that she has nailed it, and I reckon she probably now looks at it now thinking it was a bad (hey, I know I think that 99% of my old recordings are horribly out of time, sometimes just after recording it). Also, I think that it is right to praise a kid when s/he nails a line, or gets very close. There's been at least 5 people who have said how they can't even play that line or get close to her efforts. I don't think it was too bad. If she'd been playing the first beat on the 2nd beat that would be another matter... Don't listen to the idiots above me telling you to leave! I agree with some of what you're saying: Yes, she went out of time from God-knows what, Yes we should stop kids from half-doing a song, and moving on because 'oh yeah, I learnt it'. However, I don't think that we should stop them from playing and learning them. I know that playing though 'sir duke' by Stevie Wonder on my thrid bass lesson was one of the things that inspired me to play bass, even though I could hardly play it (ok, I kinda played all of it except the run-down)
Kids. and you're how old?
21. There are some dobbers of the highest order on this site. 7 years playing from the age of 10? I really wish I would have had the support to do that. Yet for some on here, it's an opportunity to slag off. That is a shame.
22. Picked up a beautiful old Stingray from Rob today. Great host, mean bassist, great basses, didn't get to taste his tea. Would definitely do business again. Steve.
23. I'll see you when you're a well regarded bassist in the fututre. Don't stop now, that's great playing. How long have you been playing?
24. Jaquo III-X What a silly name. Cygnus X1. arse part.
