  1. No offence, but UNfortunately?? 😎
  2. Any chance of us rehearsing for a while is very unlikely as our lead guitarist is waiting to start Chemo - he’s one of the unfortunate patients who is having to be patient. We wish him well, obviously. But I have played in a virtual band for our church services, each of us recording at home then it’s mixed, but it’s not the same, obviously
  3. Ok, but you did say c. 1965 ie approx.......😇
  4. Surprised nobody’s mentioned Procol Harum’s Whiter Shade of Pale. Was it Matthew Fisher playing the Hammond? Not so much a solo though, more throughout the song!
  5. Seems the longest owned so far.....
  6. Although I bought and sold various basses until I found three I’m happy with, I still have the Hawk 12-string acoustic guitar I bought new in May 1968 from Papworths (The Music Inn as it became) on Alfreton Road in Nottingham. I subsequently hardwired a pickup, tone and volume knobs and jack socket - I took a brave pill before I got the electric drill out - but apart from that and the occasional new set of strings it’s still original. I'm sure among the more senior citizens on here there must be guitars or basses owned for longer, care to share details?
  7. You beat me to it! I’ve seen Alan Price live many times, always a good show

Re the bass being inaudible, I've just used my iPad’s headphone socket and played the clip through an amp, and the bass sounds good. I’ve done some ‘spare bedroom’ recordings (bass amp’d) on my phone/iPad, and the bass is inaudible if played back just on the phone. But played back through the amp, it’s fine. I suppose it’s because the phone/iPad speakers don’t ‘do’ bass.
  9. Well, I started with just one, and sold it on as I bought another, as I didn’t NEED more than one. But I wanted a semi acoustic 335 style, then I saw a PJ going for a song....... I suppose I could manage with just one, but during lockdown I’ve had one in my ‘den in the loft’, one behind the sofa to reach for anytime, the other is where I left it last time I picked it up. So no, I want all 3! (plus various guitars ‘to hand’)
  10. Phew, it turned out to be in the transport options, but if it was in sync, it would be good to hear what I’m recording. Perhaps I’ll explore that too in due course. Thanks again. Malcolm
  11. Thanks both, I check and report back
  12. I’ve somehow changed settings on Audacity, and now, when recording, I can hear myself playing, but with a slight delay. It’s OK for the first track, I just turn the speaker down. But if I do that for subsequent tracks, I’ve nothing to sync with! Can anyone tell me how to remove the volume on the track I’m recording, please, but keep the playback on previous tracks? Many thanks in advance.....
  13. And Tristan Fry from Sky on percussion?
  14. Some advice/help please, I’m taking part in ‘distance recording’ later this week, but I’ve been told the acoustic piano being used is very slightly flat, “30 cent”. I need therefore to detune my bass accordingly. My tuner has a pitch button, normally it’s set at 440 (440 what I have no idea!!), and it can be adjusted in the range 435 to 445. Is this how I retune, and if so, to what pitch? Or if not???? Thanks in advance malcolm
  15. DFA - reminds me of a bloke in the RAF who ‘knew everything’, he was known as KFA.....
  16. But surely beauty is in the eye of the beholder? I’m sure there are folks, apart from the writer and performer, who liked listening to Grandad, Grandma we love you, Mr Blobby, the Floral dance (vocal version...) etc, etc! (anyone else remember Mike Sarne and Wendy Richard's “Come Outside”?)
  17. Ditto here, I’m afraid, but we have all recorded our ‘bits’ for one song, which are currently being put together as a vid.
  18. Wanted, one bass hard case - apply Quent, Foxhall Road, Ipswich. Around the £30 mark ideally.....👍👍
  19. Our church is similar size, and we play on a rota basis, so it’s very rare to be in the same band twice! Again, it’s drummers we're light on, only have three. 5 bassists, but some are multi-talented, so I seem to do more bass-Ing than most. It’s sometimes quite challenging when there’s another bass player in the band, with them playing guitar or keys..... At our 'morning' venue, we have to set up, but we have installed permanent PA and sub, cabling for the sound desk and amp (we are DI’d), with the drum kit on a castored platform with full screen, which just rolls into a huge back-of-the-stage cupboard, with all the stands, Korg etc The evening venue is our own church building, so everything’s in place, mostly just plug in and play. Malcolm
  20. Two bands, both reflecting my age (and their’s!) The Hollies, quite a few years ago, just before Allen Clarke retired. His voice had obviously gone, which seemed to affect the rest of the band. I had been looking forward to seeing them live, as they were brilliant in their day. The Searchers - John McNally's version, with Frank Allen, 3 or 4 years ago.. OK, I heard a couple of months later that they had called it a day, but they should have done it long before they did. JMcN is not a lead guitarist. For me, it was quite sad to see them.
  21. Looks like they’re priced as sculptures, as in 'art'.... The pricing/value of which I can never understand. Eg Hockney. Or is it a wind-up, and I’ve fallen for it?
  22. Million Dollar Quartet musical at Aylesbury Waterside later this month. But ATG, who own/run the theatre say they will resched when possible.
  23. 87 years old today, I believe..
  24. Apropos nothing, I had a tour round the Gunn and Moore (the bat sacrificed here was a G&M) factory in Nottingham when I were a lad in the 1960s. Fascinating how the wood blanks were ‘squeezed' into the required shape by a big roller press.
