  1. Using Bass Amphones I can hear all the way from 21Hz noticeably increasing in perceived volume upto 100HZ, then slight increase in perceived volume peaking around 1KHz with some drops in volume at certain frequencies and continuing up other decreases in volume in the mid 2k, again mid 3ks, very noticeable certain frequencies in the 4ks and above that odd drop outs noticeable reducing volume from 9kHz and nothing much over 10.7kHz just a perception to 13k after that I'm imagining it I'm 55, worked in Ents at college and in sound reinforcement in my early 20s and wore the yellow foam plugs then when doing front of stage security and when working the PA, especially when working for bands that weren't our band, who were good about stage volume and as all worked the rig and understood about noisy guitar amps and spill into mics, and have walked out of a few gigs in the last 20 years (Massive Attack even at the back I couldn't stand more than 10 minutes of the support band (so went to the bar) and left after 5 mins of the headliners as the rig had been turned up even more) because they were just ridiculously loud with 20k+ rigs with subs in venues that in the 80s we would have done with 2k-6k of Turbosounds or Martins running at half volume max. I saw Motorhead back in 1980 when they had the volume at 11 and experienced tinnitus for 3 days afterwards so am a bit careful, I use Peltor ear defenders when using power tools and combustion engine driven machines like my power washer at work, and never use power tools for more than a few minutes and when doing chainsaw work in the 90s I used the yellow foam plugs and the ear defenders because I wear glasses the arms of the glasses meant the ear defenders don't seal optimally. I never went clubbing and the few times I ended up in clubs at social events I didn't hang around for long because of the high volume levels.
  2. Something a little different/silly/why ? Do you have an Aron Hodek in your family (as seen on Norman's Rare Guitars YouTube channel) or just fancy a dinky fretless noodling bass? 2014 built Jack & Denny Mini Jazz bass, three colour sunburst gloss finish poplar body, rosewood fretboard, de-fretted with sycamore veneer inserts in the fret slots, on a maple neck with satin finish, tortoise scratch plate removed (included, still has protective film on and screws) for that Jaco look, fitted with Rotosound TruBass RS88S short scale black nylon tape wound strings and a push pull volume pot on the neck pickup giving you the series/parallel tone option (original mini pot included). Vintage strap buttons fitted with leather washers. 29" scale length, 38mm at nut, 3.04Kg = 6.7lb. 103cm overall length. Scaled size open tuners work okay, bbot bridge, volume, volume, tone all pretty normal passive Jazz setup. DV247 online store link Bass is in good overall condition, a couple of very minor varnish drips on back of headstock and marks to finish edge of fretboard where I originally tried to do a poly varnish finish on the fretboard which didn't work so the board was sanded back to wood and oiled. 20" radius as it was when fretted. There are two holes in the front of the headstock where a string tree was once fitted, unnecessarily once the fretboard was slotted above the new low home made bone nut, and there are three holes in the body where a different bridge was fitted visible below the ball ends. I moved the control plate a little to avoid having the larger pot hard against the body aperture instead of clearancing the aperture. When I bought the bass from DV247 it had been opened and inspected and supposedly had a 'special pro setup', (may have been QC inspection on a batch or as I suspect it was a customer return) the nut had been adjusted and cut too low on the D and G strings instead of straightening the neck so there was some fret buzz when I reduced the neck relief. I wasn't going to send it back to Germany for that on a £70 instrument so decided instead to do the de-fret and build a Jaco Bass of Doom out of it, but I haven't 'relic'ed it. I tried the original steel strings very briefly but the rosewood is too soft for that so I fitted the tape wounds which actually are really nice to play and sound great. The original YM ceramic pickups are reasonably hot and it does sound like a Jazz, solo the bridge pickup and it does a pretty passable Jaco sound. If you can do a Epoxy finish or similar then you could use harder strings, but the tape wounds worked fine for me. The nut should be fine with an epoxy finish if you don't go too thick, if you don't you may even want to cut it a little lower. It fits perfectly in the Gator XL Electric Guitar hard case, which is in as new condition and includes the keys. If you don't want the case then I can ship the bass on it's own, and we can negotiate the price. Otherwise price includes UK courier shipping in hard case. Collection from Llanfyllin mid Wales knock off £25. Apologies for the poor photos the camera had to use flash as it's been like dusk here all afternoon. Thanks for looking.
  3. Fender have a configurator as well now, not as many options as Adrian, but at least I could now order a fairly stock Daphne Blue Jazz with a maple board and choice of pickups if I had $1800 to spare - think I know where I'd rather spend that sort of money if I had it
  4. Went to BD this afternoon for the first time in person for some help and advice; Mark was fantastically helpful, reassuring, encouraging and generous with his time I heard this Mayones Jabba being played and WOW, not just stunning to look at it really sang http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/JABBA_CST4_Poplar_RW.html all I bought was a new lead (oh yes, Chris, I have no vested interest to declare here)
  5. Paul sold me a set of Jazz pickups cheaply, sent out first class next day delivery, many thanks, top man
  6. if you put the B string back on and bring the strings back up to pitch and play it with pups and scratch plate off is the noise still there ? I would expect that Adrian will answer any questions you have about the build if you drop him an email with some pics, when I enquired by email about a technical question he was forthcoming and helpful
  7. Recycling packaging materials by sending them to your customers means you don't have to deal with the disposal yourself
  8. Great versatile Guitar 15 watt practice amplifier that is small (34x34x19cm), light (sub 7Kg), and portable and comes with multiple simulated amplifiers and effects, rhythm and accompaniment features and Aux input and headphone out so you can practice on your own or play with friends as loudly or as quietly as you like. I have used it for practice with UkeBass at low volumes and it sounds great especially on the acoustic amps and mad on the more driven options and with the built in rhythms is very useful for practice. Good condition, slight tarnishing of the strap covers and a couple of small marks on the vinyl covering Price includes mainland UK courier shipping
  9. Pictures the first fret block is the one that is most lifted I was thinking themed coat hook/key hook rack or similar : )
  10. I left it at work on the flat surface, I'll take some pics in the morning for you
  11. I can't really see that anyone will want this but you never know... Complete fretboard from a 2011 Squier VM Jazz bass, that's satin finish, very little lacquer on fingerboard, 20 frets little wear on frets Maple fingerboard, black plastic bound and blocks, there was some slight lift on three of the blocks before I stripped board off the neck, maybe a little more lift now; it came off cleanly and surprisingly easily with some heat from a travel iron on a steel ruler on top of the frets as per the YouTube videos I watched before attempting it, no damage on the back face, I haven't removed the glue residue, just put it on a flat surface with some weight on it whilst it cools down I can post pictures later but I think we all know what it looks like, 38mm nut width, 65mm at widest part of the neck pocket, 34" scale length £15 plus shipping complete with the 10 white plastic fret markers from the top of the neck which are originally positioned half in neck half in fretboard so there are semi circle holes in the top edge of the binding (Right handed neck so if you use it on a left handed one the holes will be on the bottom edge) Removed to replace with a fretless maple board like a 70s P, afaik Maple board fretless Jazz weren't made for production, maybe one offs or custom
  12. It seems to depend a bit on your ebay feedback count; I bought a couple of items last year that were not as described, the vendors both tried to pull the you pay return postage card to try and force me to keep the items as the postage was significant compared to cost of items; I complained to Ebay got them to call me and explained the issues and Ebay issued me the return labels and doubtless recharged them to the vendors - I don't think you should have to pay to return items that are not as described. My Ebay feedback is over 1300 positives as I buy stuff for the business on there all the time as I live rural, if I need some bearing fit then no point in driving 20 miles to go and get it when the postman drives the 20 miles to come here every day. I also managed to get negative feedback I had left for one sale that was reneged on, that the overseas vendor managed to get removed, reinstated as Ebay had to accept that what I had written was accurate, truthful and polite, as they had the communications between me and the vendor and I had originally flagged up the issue within an hour of the sale to Ebay themselves hoping that would help to ensure the vendor honoured the sale. They couldn't explain why the feedback was removed and it was reinstated. But since then they have changed the website so many times that complaining in any meaningful way or navigating to the point where you can actually contact Ebay has got way harder; like with Parcel2go the only way to talk to them is webchat and you have to be online to do it and it is slow and tedious, you can't just email them with the problem and await their response.

  25. A short video from Ed Friedland aka the bass whisperer popped up on my YouTube feed this morning telling us he's going to be posting again after a gap of a few years and will be contributing to the new BassMagazine.com online you guessed it which appears to be the US staff from Bass Player set up on their own away from the corporate magazine world doing what they always did. No idea yet what a sub will cost as that page is still under construction but there's some articles posted to get you interested in what is to come. SylviaBluejay will probably know more
