  1. I've just bought a guitar strap from Paul - it arrived next working day, carefully packaged and in great condition. My guitar now looks at least 73% cooler. Thanks very much!
  2. Counting Crows' "Mr Jones", after Marty Jones (bassist in The Himalayans, Adam Duritz's previous band).
  3. Rotosound's YouTube channel (near the bottom of the page) has a bunch of short videos with Mo Foster playing various different types of strings on his Precision. Those might be of use to you as a rough comparison - see which you like the sound of best?
  4. Them and a hundred other bands - it's the trad tune Frieze Breeches. It's in O'Neill's Music of Ireland from 1903 and lots of other collections. Sounds great on the new bouzouki!
  5. Do you do single strings? I could use a spare Energy 45... (And will probably buy a couple more sets of those - still very happy with those I got last time.)
  6. Greatbear in Bristol are another company that do transfers like this - their web site has lots of info about (and pictures of) the formats they can handle: https://thegreatbear.net/
  7. I've got both the sets of headphones mentioned above - 80 ohm DT770 Pro (bought 2017), and ATH-M50X (bought 2014). I have trouble finding headphones that are comfortable for me when I'm wearing them several hours a day, and both of these fit my head well, so if you're in the same boat and you like one then you'll probably like the other. I prefer the sound of the ATs for music - I'd agree with your comment about the Beyers sounding a bit bass-light in comparison. The folding/swivel mechanism on the ATs has survived 6 years of heavy use for me without problems, and being able to switch between long/short/curly cables (or no cable, just using them to cut down ambient sound a bit) is really handy. On the other hand, after 6 years the plastic leather on the earpads and headband of the ATs is flaking off messily, and they don't seal as well as they used to. I'd expect the Beyer design to be a bit longer-lived in this regard - but both manufacturers sell replacement bits too.
  8. For PA setup, Tower of Power's "Direct Plus" album.

    NPD BDI 21

Another off-brand use for the BDI21: it does pretty decent Brian Auger-style overdriven Hammond organ sounds...
  10. This one and this one both have lots of matching details, including the zero fret. Those are both Zentas which is another importer brand like Jedson...
  11. You could maybe stick a discreet label at the top of the neck block - "glued joint - steam access under heel cap"? It's looking great!
  12. There's an older version of their web site in the Internet Archive: http://web.archive.org/web/20110127225138/http://thecrossfire.net/john-tracey.html
  13. I bought some tapewound strings from Pete. Very quick and easy transaction and great communication - thanks very much!
  14. I don't think that's a Hofner either - which doesn't mean it's not a perfectly decent instrument in its own right, of course! Lots of companies make Hofner-style basses (http://www.violinbasses.com/gallery.htm), and it's not uncommon for people to swap Hofner bits onto copies to make them more like the originals. From the style of the bridge, control plate and tuners, it looks like it might be a Challenge violin bass - compare with the pictures here or here?
  15. The Grateful Dead have a load of songs with odd time signatures, e.g. "Playing In The Band" (10/4?) and "Estimated Prophet" (7/4). Peter Gabriel's "Solsbury Hill" (7/8) isn't exactly rock but everybody's heard it...
  16. Do you mean you're not meant to play a Thumb with a ceilidh band? Nobody's ever complained about mine... 😉
  17. Just bought some strings from KevL - well packed, arrived quickly and safely. Thanks very much!
  18. There were some troubleshooting suggestions for a similar problem in this thread recently:
  19. Bought a bass in beautiful condition from Alan in an impressively quick transaction - 3½ hours from the advert going up to me sitting at home playing it 🙂 Great communication and very happy with the result - thanks very much Alan!
  20. If you mean that "another" friend can't see your server in the public server list, one thing to check is whether you're all running the latest version of Jamulus - there were some changes to how the server list mechanism works in one of the recent releases to add genre-specific server lists, and you might be looking at different lists as a result.
  21. The original version of the manual says: "If using an aftermarket AC Adapter, please be sure that it delivers between 24VDC and 40VDC with a minimum current rating of 100mA. The barrel connector plug coming from the AC Adapter must be center positive."
  22. Interested to see how this proceeds. I've got a cheap and cheerful one (from the small company who used to import them as "Gazukis" - Williams?) which just has a standard cutaway acoustic guitar body and neck, drilled for eight strings rather than six. It sounds pretty good acoustically, but the wide neck is rather unwieldy for chords compared to a real OM/Irish bouzouki... so a proper bouzouki-style neck sounds like a good idea. Octave stringing or unison? If octave, which way up, and how will you do the bridge compensation?
