  1. Nobody has said that the pairing of different cabinets cannot work. It can and does. The caveat though is that luck is involved. They might meld harmoniously or fight each other all night long. For example if the cabinets are wired with differing polarities one will be trying it's best to cancel the other out and vice versa. Identical cabinets always work well together.
  2. Jim's shop could well be closed due to the Pandemic. Many 'non essential' companies have been ordered closed by the State government.
  3. My practice amp is an Ampeg B15N. It always inspires me when I play through it.
  4. I remember garter belts well - from my teenage years!! LOL
  5. When I first arrived in Canada I thought that these amps were for beginners ala Trainer amplifiers. LOL
  6. It could well be that just the horn diaphragm needs to be replaced. Contact Ampeg Customer Support for a replacement.
  7. If none of the controls affect the signal from the send then the loop is pre preamp. Probably to allow the use of instrument level effect pedals rather than the line level most loops work at.
  8. They not braces they suspenders!
  9. The 7027A is essentially a 6L6GC on steroids. The problem that has appeared with the demise of many tube/valve manufacturers is that you're never really sure what characteristics the device had been built to.
  10. Hey Scouse, In the latter years of the Sixties I played the Cave often as a member of Earl Preston's Reflections. I met my wife playing in that band in a place called Nalgo somewhere off Queens Drive.. LOL A few years ago one of my brothers took us down to the Cavern and I thought I was going bonkers. The club was in the wrong building and where it was was gone!! I hope you and yours are keeping safe. The eldest brother is working his way through this damn virus but is getting better every day I'm happy to report.
  11. My amplifier consists of a 2KW capable Class D stereo power amp driven by a little tube pre-amp that I designed and built for it. Into the two 4Ω Acme B2 cabinets, one on each channel, that I usually use it delivers a tad over 500W on each channel. Into all four of my cabinets it's the full 2KW.
  12. Every time I read the title my mind says: Absolutely nothing. Say it again UH! for some reason.
  13. My mother used to tell the tale of when I changed the plug on her iron. I was nine at the time and she didn't dare plug the thing in until my dad came home and checked my work. It was safe and properly installed! LOL Change the plug for a proper 13A fused plug. It will save messing about later with questionable adaptors.
  14. Just to nit pick a bit but the tubes you installed would have been 6L6GCs. Had you installed 6L6s they would have failed almost instantly. When talking tubes the letters are important.
  15. In all the many years I have been playing the thought of how much my amplifier system costs to run has never entered my mind. Remember that an amplifier does not produce it's rated power all the time - only when pushed that far into a suitable speaker load.
  16. In the early Seventies I used a Fender BASSMAN head into a Marshall 100W 4x12. I left the UK in October 73. Here I used a Sansui 5000 receiver and a couple of Traynor 2x12s one on each channel. I then designed and built a 150W tube amp which I used into the Eighties.
  17. @Dan Dare Perchance did you read the Eagle comic as a younger person??
  18. The now defunct Bass Gear magazine tested them both and these were the results. Over here this subject ran rampant for quite a while.
  19. Although the Genz Benz Shuttles are no longer made they are fully supported by member @agedhorse How that support works in Europe he'll have to say.
  20. Class AB with a Toroid power transformer compared to Class D with a SMPS.
  21. Solid State in the Sixties not so much. The reliability just wasn't there yet. The VOX T60 was solid state but used Germanium transistors that would tend to cook themselves at regular intervals due to thermal runaway.
  22. Kinda defeats the purpose of an ultralight amplifier!
  23. Actually they both have the same output power when tested.
