  1. Solid State in the Sixties not so much. The reliability just wasn't there yet. The VOX T60 was solid state but used Germanium transistors that would tend to cook themselves at regular intervals due to thermal runaway.
  2. Kinda defeats the purpose of an ultralight amplifier!
  3. Actually they both have the same output power when tested.
  4. Yes but that's just a small place and I bet you did have PA support.
  5. The actual lack of output power would be one! 236W doesn't get you too far.!
  6. Try linking the Send and Return of the Effects Loop with a short signal cable to see if that helps. If the amp has a Pre-amp out / Power amp in sockets link those too similarly.
  7. I can see you'd really need a stair climbing dolly to move that thing!
  8. I'm glad my new MacBook Pro is not equipped with Smellyvision! LOL
  9. The unit wil need a different power supply to work in N America.
  10. I made a project of my home lighting switching all lamps tp LED. In what we call the studio, my Baby Grand and rehearsal spot are in that room, the difference from incandescent is astounding. We only have one non LED lamp now and only 'cos the touch dimmer will not work properly with LED lamps. Y'know Andy I truly believe that you have done just about everything!!! LOL
  11. Off topic a bit but when the hall in our company building was redone. all the existing lighting controls were scrapped. They used massive Variacs capable of 2000W as the dimmers and they were all scrapped. Well, a few were repurposed. I have one and I added an AC socket to it, a power cable and an output AC voltmeter. It sits in the workshop and is used as needed.
  12. We're gonna have to cut your internet feed!!
  13. It's just a bit of fluff circuitry that can go wrong and possibly cause some problem down the road.
  14. I've never been a fan of mixing driver sizes in the same air space.
  15. Just discovered that the eldest of the brothers in Liverpool has had it and is, thank god, recovering! I'll kill him when I see the bugger next I swear!!
  16. I would agree with you Charlie. There are applications where a starved plate would be the appropriate topology but there's none in current instrument amplifiers I'm familiar with.
  17. A gentleman on Talk Bass was going to set up a tour for me and a couple of others. It hasn't happened yet but I'm still hopeful!!
  18. It was an attempt at humour thus the big grin. It was in reply to you. Just as I have no idea of the reality of these times in the UK, except from family, you guys back 'ome have little in the way of knowledge of the situation in North America. Having had three strokes, two heart attacks, open heart surgery and Diabeties on top I've been out of my home three times since this all started. The States have been hit hardest of all. The whole country is basically at a stand still and stuff gets missed in spite of best intentions. Please keep yourselves safe. This is a horrible illness and it's so easy to screw up!
  19. I'll agree with that Charlie! Edit: I hope you're keeping healthy in these trying times!
  20. I'm not too much into art! LOL The power amp is made by a company called Carvin. I have a bunch of their products including three superb six string basses. They also provide the power for my three PA systems.
  21. My gigging amp is a 2000W capable stereo Class D power amp. On each channel I run one Acme B2 three way 4Ω cabinet. The cabinets are stacked on their ends for a vertical 4x10. They sound sublime and each cabinet gets around 500W. If I need more than that I stack my second pair of B2 cabinet along side, again one per channel, the power amp is happy with 2Ω loads, For those that do not know about the Acme brand the B2 is a 2x10 with midrange and tweeter drivers. I should mention the whole shebang is driven by a two channel full tube/valve preamp of my own design and build. As for weight the pre-amp and power anp reside in a four space SKB rack case. With the front and back covers in place I can pick it up just using two fingers.
  22. The beasts are built a couple of miles along Kingston Road from my home. That's where the Yorkville plant is.
  23. Just as a question where are you going to play where you'll NEED all that stuff??
  24. If the fan is temperature controlled it won't come on until the heatsinks get up to a certain temperature to trigger the fan.
