  1. I bought the unit in need of repair. That was simple enough the output transistors had failed. I repaired the output board and added devices to the empty slots - had to drill and tap the heatsink to accept them. I then wanted to improve the cooling path but got involved in other more important projects. I'm now considering dropping in a Class D module but haven't researched that too much to date.
  2. I think it might be 300W peak and not RMS. The TO3P output transistors are too small for 300W with only half of the slots with devices installed.
  3. Remember that song - There ain't nothin' like the real thing Baby, There ain't nothing like the real thing.
  4. My speaker cabinets are all 4Ω chosen because all my amplifiers are happy working into a 2Ω load. You could use two 4Ω amps one into each of your two cabinets. Linked together Effects Send to second amp Effects Return. It will work and the first amps controls will operate for both amps.
  5. From what I have observed a Trace GP7 300 is actually 150W.. I was disappointed in the construction of my unit. The cooling path was just a fan blowing on a heatsink.
  6. Personally I wouldn't let one of those things anywhere near my B15. The magic of the B15 is bass right into the amp. Anything else will detract from the amp. What do you mean by more accessible?
  7. Ah Paul! You make it all sound so simple! LOL
  8. There isn't an amp made that outputs it's full power all the time. They only do that when the input signal is strong enough to drive them that far.
  9. Took me a short while to work out 'cos over here it would have to be Bare Assed. LOL
  10. HO Buoy - are you ever heading for a failure. One day you'll be playing away and your amp will go quiet - permanently!! It's a case of it's fine until it's not!
  11. None of my Class D amplifiers lose anything at volume. Just as good loud as they are at softer volumes.
  12. To practice at home I use my Ampeg B15N. It sounds wonderful and makes me want to practice more!
  13. The best speaker cabinets I have ever used are my Acme B2 2x10 three way cabinets. I have a pair of Series one and a pair of Series two. All are 4Ω impedance which suits my 2Ω capable power amps down to the ground! They are capable of handling a Low B at volume. I stack them on their ends for a vertical 4x10.
  14. I hope it serves you well.
  15. Practise???? Try practice!! I expected poor spelling from Americans but on a UK site? LOL Keep. yourselves safe guys!
  16. Neither of those amps will be good for bass. IMO they are basically 'toys.' Sorry.
  17. I very much doubt it's a fuse. Normally a lamp is used so that as the current increases to the high range circuit the lamp lights more, the resistance across it increases and reduces the signal to the high driver protecting the diaphragm.
  18. For me the best Class D amp I've ever used is a Carvin 2KW Stereo power amp driven by the tube pre-amp I designed and built to push it.
  19. Not to be too picky but this is NOT a Class D amplifier.
  20. The SC120 was a very good amp. Six EL34s in fixed bias. Partridge transformers A good all around amplifier.
  21. It's interesting how many faults are blamed on 'Capacitors.' Many of us who do repair work seldom see faulty caps. You have to watch them Scouse guys I tell you!! LOL
  22. A nice Ampeg B15N makes a fine practice amplifier. Well you DID ask! LOL
  23. Y'know the more I visit sites such as this the more I think that musicians will always find something to complain about. Fan noise is a trifling thing to worry about. To me it just means that the amp is on and being kept cool no matter how I'm pushing it.
