Exceptional service froim John. I am restoring an inherited 1965 Jazz bass and asked for a loom with CTS pots. John supplied the loom, with split shaft CTS pots. I dropped him a line to upbraid myself for not asking if the pots would be split or solid shaft (I had assumed!!). He immediately offered to replace it upon recipt of the original loom. As ever customer service is what happens when things don't work out, for whatever reason. John was an absolute gent. No surprise there! Also ordered a Precision loom for an ongoing project. Top quality and prevents me from harming myself, and others, with a soldering iron.

Four of my basses have names. My '66 is just called #1 because it's been my main bass for almost 40 years now. The '72 is called The Wreck, because it does look to be in a bit of a state. The two SVLs are Hannah and Emily. That's because they indicate which daughter inherits which when I snuff it. Their names are engraved on the neckplates.

Hello from a short scale player in Greenwich
Steve Browning replied to DF Shortscale's topic in Introductions
Welcome. There's nothing wrong with being short, and scales are important to practice. -

Have a look at some Keane stuff. Bend And Break is a brilliant song. -
Sad news indeed. Possibly the man I have envied more than any other.

Mysterious Mesa amp(s) problem, I'd appreciate some help
Steve Browning replied to Beedster's topic in Amps and Cabs
Now you mention it @rumblefish had a similar issue which turned out to be a pre-amp valve. The valve needed to be of a certain spec. Do you recall Rob? -
Mysterious Mesa amp(s) problem, I'd appreciate some help
Steve Browning replied to Beedster's topic in Amps and Cabs
Reading this is similar to watching someone trying to unravel a twisted cable. You want to jump in and try doing it yourself! Bound to be something ridiculously simple in the end. -
I have been passed to a UK artist relations lady at John Henry. I'll make contact and try and find out the latest.

Mysterious Mesa amp(s) problem, I'd appreciate some help
Steve Browning replied to Beedster's topic in Amps and Cabs
Blimey, that's weird. I sold an M-Pulse 600 that made a lot of noise despite being fine when sold. As in your case, to a very decent BCer. It turned out a replaced input jack solved the problem. Very odd that the same problem manifests itself in both amps. Paging @agedhorse for his thoughts. Hopefully it's something straightforward. -
Calling all P Bass officianados.......
Steve Browning replied to Chewie's topic in General Discussion
No. No. No and thrice no. What is wrong with you people? Every time I see that lovely Squier mocha CV bass I want to scream. 🙂 -
I always wanted to form a punk band in which everyone dressed as a classical musician and sat with a music stand in front of them.

I bought my first amp when it was Telecomms, and in a tiny shop in Stamshaw (possibly the least salubrious part of Portsmouth).

Yes. The Lehle is a terrific switcher. I used one for ages, before going for a Mike Hill unit.

One of my favourite bassists of all time. My ringtone is Nitto, from This Way Up Saw them at a college gig around 1976. Probably more for the musos, as said, but absolutely awesome player. Very sad that he felt he had to leave by his own hand.

I detest the horrible vibrato that musical theatre folk apply to other types of music.

I have a recollection of Graham Bonnet, on Rockschool, singing opera. Very impressive it was too. He had training in case you thought I was suggesting he was a natural. I was impressed that he had taken his craft so seriously.

A Hoyer Les Paul was rather famously brandished by Bill Nelson on the back cover of Axe Victim, the debut album by Be Bop Deluxe. Apparently, Stuart Adamson was such a fan he tracked it down. It was eventually sought out by a group of fans and presented back to Bill.

When ordering, make sure the internal depth is enough for the amp. As for abs, I always wonder if they are hefty enough to stay on top of the cab without moving. Cases with rubber feet for me.

The Continuing Story of Problem Bandmates.
Steve Browning replied to Chienmortbb's topic in General Discussion
Rule 1, you don't embarrass someone on stage. Ever. Post mortems are for the day after, at the earliest. -
Definitely this. She may be perfectly suited to folk, but not rock covers. No need to be unpleasant.

I always take a spare. The spare is always a carbon copy of the main bass so if it's needed, there's no level or sonic difference. They're usually the same finish too but not always, I'm not a freak!!
