Is BC a community, or just a source of information?
ezbass replied to Rayman's topic in General Discussion
Likewise. The depression thread alone is a great example of the support available here. -
All that matters, strings you can change easily and, if you’re anything like me, are probably changed for your favourites almost straight away.

Guitarists... why are they such knackers
ezbass replied to spacecowboy's topic in General Discussion
I think the OP should be retitled, Musicians…. Why Are They Such Knackers. I have had a almost a week of passive/aggressive shenanigans from the drummer, with him manufacturing a scenario where he can take offence at something trivial and throw his toys out of the pram. If you want to leave just say you’ve had enough, don’t look for someone else to blame. FFS! 😤 -
'Trons are my second favourite guitar pickup, just behind P90s. So unlike PAF types, but still bucking that 60cycle hum. Easy access hollow area? Smuggler Tele!

Oofft! Bass forum or not, that's stunning 😍.

I bought it used from Germany, when I lived down south, back when you could buy things from the EU without being screwed with your pants on by customs & excise. They are a very forgiving fretless. It’s the bass I’ve had the longest there. When I bought the EUB, it was done with a view of only having that or the MB2. However, they do rather different things, so no plans to sell - at the moment. Your welcome to come and play it if you’re ever down Pitlochry way. What we need is a Scottish Bass Bash.

Yes it is. The other 'Mustang' is a Hardly Bent One take on the 'stang.

Harley Benton MV-4M Mustang-like bass. £198. Opinions?

A small update. After playing it quite a bit at home, in rehearsal and live, as much as the ability to blend in some bridge pickup is nice, I'm not sure that anyone would really notice it in the mix and that neck pickup is so nice on its own and way more pokey than the bridge, that the blend is somehow less. To this end, today, I disconnected the bridge pickup completely and have left the blend pot in as a volume control (it's a better quality pot than the original I think and the same value). It is instantly less noisy when you're not earthing it with your hands and I can just enjoy playing the neck pickup, which, unsurprisingly, roars like any P bass, but in a smaller, more quirky package. -
I’ll play. Taken just now. The shorty ‘Ray is likely to be offered for sale I think as I’m more a Mustang guy it seems.

How old were you when you did your first gig?
ezbass replied to odysseus's topic in General Discussion
13 I think, may have been 14 (it was for was some old folks). Me on guitar, my buddy on drums and another performer also playing guitar (as I recall he had prosthetic legs). I can't imaging that it was any good or that the audience enjoyed it particularly. -
I seem to remember leaving a rather positive review of last Saturday's gig. I may have different feelings about it now, as I caught a dose Covid from it! 😤🤒😷

Modding a '66 Mustang (really?? really???)

Check out that, er, checking. -
Wanna be with the beer and guitars, But that’s not what my priorities are. Wishing I was livin’ the life, But that ain’t always easy with kids and a wife. It writes itself. Hopefully, all be fine and the worst it’ll be will be the eye patch of shame (like a dog’s cone of shame, but less obtrusive). I had a nasty habit of scratching my eye as a kid, an occupational hazard for an early wearer of the hard, contact lenses available at the time, so I feel that pain.

That’s the important thing, you’ve got your priorities in the right order. Wish her well from chez Ez.

One of your jobs as a parent is do things that make your children, especially daughters, roll their eyes. You’re not their friend, you’re their source of irritation, at least whilst they’re children. It’s all part of the fun, especially when you do it on purpose. To be clear, I am joshing somewhat. I think I was always the fun dad (opinions may and probably do vary, especially with the ex) and I didn’t have to try at all to get my little girl (who is now over 40!) to like me. -

Really? Interesting! -
They need Pino (or someone as high profile in the bass world) to play his fretless on a popular song again, with some like Laurie Latham mixing, that’ll surely spark some GAS in those who haven’t considered one and EB would probably more than happy to fill the gap. However, with the price of US models these days, maybe they should release them in the SBMM range. I defretted a US SUB (by I, I mean I had The Gallery do it and a top notch job it was too), which I eventually sold (smacks self sharply on back of head), sounded great.

That's interesting, maybe this is why I like them on most of my basses - I like the sound of the string and perhaps the mixture of wood/metal/plastic carrier is more irrelevant? Hmm, That sounds sarcastic and it's not meant to be, I really think you might be onto to something there, at least for me. Interesting, very interesting...
-
Oh, I'm excited for you. The general description of the '51/'54 bass neck has always given me pause, even though I love the general aesthetic of those models. I'm sure I don't know what you mean.

I had a Basic VM4, which was a brilliantly built bass. However, whilst sounding fine, I found the pickup and/or preamp uninspiring. It was as if a Scandi style guru was asked to design the sound. It never sounded bad and I was happy with it for a while, but there was something missing. Hopefully, this is something that has been addressed in the many years since. Perhaps your idea of going passive with a tone capsule is the way to go.

It kills me every time you post a photo, because I can't see them EDIT: Ah ha! I have found a way!
