1. This popped up on eBay and has my spidey senses tingling! Anyone in Glasgow lost an amp recently? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mark-Bass-Mixer-/263188299754?hash=item3d473ebfea:g:SRkAAOSwG0tZroMV
  2. I have seen some reliccing on Guitar amps before. Tweed style amps with darker laquer applied and some scuffs and tears to the cloth and grille.
  3.
carol kaye invented this and has been doing it for over 40 years. (or so she says )
I think Carol prefers a felt mute on top of the strings rather than a foam one underneath.
  4.
D'ough! I've seen some half-baked wordplay in my time, but that takes the biscuit.
Loaf? I nearly pied!

    Orange Gas
Here - this will help with your GAS... it fixed mine!
Ooooooofffffff! Now if that was the four stroke it would be even better!
  6.
ooh, your signature icons could be mine
I noticed that too!
  7.
...there is nothing less relaxing than holidaying with a toddler..
My son will be three at the end of the month. Sometimes I long for the relaxing and peaceful days of the 16 month old toddler! That aside great to see your progress. The neck bolts look fantastic.
  8. What about side ported or bottom ported?
  9. No reason not to refinish as it's not the original anyway, so pick a colour you like, either available at the time or not. Your preference, but I think it needs to be a nitro finish, professionally done, and no relicing. I'm trying to decide if it's worse to put fake wear on a new bass to make it look old, or fake wear on a vintage bass to make it look old!
  10. My original one from about 8 years ago still works great. Granted it hasn't had masses of use, but it's definitely been vfm.
  11. Just looked at MU membership. Seems a bit expensive for a hobbyist.
  12.
PA falls onto a punter. Punter gets brain damage. Band will be liable for his 24 hour care / loss of earnings etc from that point until the day he dies - and perhaps beyond if there are dependants. Or even at the bottom end - cable makes punter trip and break wrist and can't work for 2 months.
Would things like that not be covered by the venues insurance? Unless it was a specific act of negligence by the band?
  13.
(aside from public liability insurance which I think should be compulsory)
What kind of disasters are you foreseeing that requires public liability insurance to be compulsory?
  14. I'm not sure I'd want to be in a pub I didn't think was safe enough for my gear!
  15.
That settles it, I'm deffo going along to Norris's next gig, anyone else in east mids up for it?
Have you seen the photos?
  16. This thread is worthless without a facebook link!
  17. Ta for the reminder. Really enjoyed the Ella and Dizzy one a couple of weeks back.
  18.
Or if I've bored you senseless let me know and I'll have single word updates from now on
Sadly I don't have any advice on glueing, clamping or black lines. Pretty clueless on that sort of stuff, but enjoying reading about your challenges so please keep the updates going.
  19. Looks great. Nice colour combination. Thank goodness it hasn't been ruined with the addition of a Jazz pick-up at the bridge!
  20.
A good friend of mine does Amp repairs & He said that he would avoid MB stuff , He said they don't have a lot built in protection & has just repaired 3 in a row for a local Hire company .
That's funny 'cos I've heard another amp guy saying Markbass stuff is solid but he wouldn't have an Ashdown if it was free! If I was looking for a money no object rig I'd definately have Eich and Barefaced on my list to check out. Might be worth having a look at AER as well for a smaller venue solution. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_MiimcHKGQ&t=1s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tp8whYwmm6Y
  21.
I'm going to need to play "devil's advocate" here. What is it about Alex's and Barefaced's amp expertise in a very competitive amp market place, which as we all know has some great amps with loyal followings, that is going to make it a "must try" product? Particularly when there won't be any going second hand examples to try out on a "de-risked" basis and with no real idea if they will command a decent resale value? How many folks in the UK have actually bought a Handbox amp over the past couple of years that Wateroftyne so highly recommends? Ten? It's hard being a new, unknown entrant in such a crowded market place. Alex has a first rate reputation in cabs and I suspect I will have my first BF cab in the not too distant future (I recently missed out on a couple of SCs in the FS section and the BB2 I was after has been withdrawn). I'm a huge fan of people becoming excellent at what they do, which Alex clearly is with his cabs, but also making sure that their product range stays fresh and remains ahead of the competition and does not rest on past glory. Nothing ventured, nothing gained I know! And maybe he will succeed with his amps and, for sure, the strength of his brand will certainly help. But perhaps equally likely it could be an expensive distraction which could, at worst, hole his brand and company below the waterline - which would be an enormous shame. IMHO, YMMV etc etc!
Despite the fact that we are still in the EU, I think a large part of any leap of faith regarding buying a Handbox amp will be held back by their location. For folk in the UK that will not be an issue with a Barefaced amp. The reputation built up with the cabs will give a massive head-start over a completely new enterprise. And as long as the business decisions are sensible ones (and I'm fairly certain they will be) then there should be no risk to the company and brand. From what I've seen and heard so far I like the Barefaced approach, so I for one am interested to see what the amp is like when it's ready for release. Now Alex has said it's still quite a way off. Is anyone taking bets about whether it will be out before The Greek gets his TE Elf?
  22. Have you spoken to your band about it yet?
  23. Great video! Too many things to watch all at once.
  24.
This is something one of our endorsers brought up - we're borrowing his solution!
Most pro rigs I've seen seem to use masking tape and a felt pen!
