1.
Yes. The unpleasant (Nazi) view that another individual is inferior to oneself for reasons of inherency and the unfashionable view to be found among old rockers, etc that to display the Battle Flag of the CSA is an indicator of 'rebelliousness'. There may be an overlap between the two positions hence the 'and /or'.
Fair enough. Thanks for explaining. I hadn't read it that way initially!
 2.
? ? ? Surely you're not suggesting that they're fashionable..?
No, I'd go for abhorrent!
 3.
unfashionable views.
Seriously?
 4.
That flag is not cool to me. You can read about history. You wouldn't catch me within 20 feet of that merch booth. Blue
Nuff said!
 5.
As others have said tne context of the flag has changed. It probably isn't seen as a racist symbol over here yet, but the recent media focus on far right groups in the US probably means that it inevitably will be.
The context of the flag hasn't changed. It is seen as a racist symbol over here now. The only thing that has changed is the media coverage and the racist nature of it's symbolism in wider public consciousness.
 6.
Indeed. It doesn't take long to type confederate flag into Google and the first few hits are all from the last few days about various people taking down or refusing to take down the flags.
Of course they are. That's how google works. And the confederate flag has been a hot topic recently. That doesn't mean for one second that the flag has only represented racism, slavery, subjugation, segregation etc for the last couple of weeks. It has represented that since the civil war!
 7.
Nooses and pillow cases! I missed that bit. I think you really need to rethink your band's image.
Les hasn't said anything about pillow cases yet. I threw those in for a bit of humour. Sorry!
 8.
I'll try and find a couple of photo's to add a bit of context.
I'm not sure context will help! I think the main point is you can do the whole Americana thing without anything that could be interpreted the wrong way, so just drop the confederate flags, nooses and the pillow cases and you'll be fine.
 9.
Sadly the flag has been hi jacked by nasty people. You probably don't want to attract nasty people. I'd lose the flag. Crazy how symbolism has such power. Good luck!
That's the point though. The flag hasn't been 'high-jacked' by nasty people. It has always been a nasty flag, as the above link to the 'cornerstone speech' points out. I grew up when Dukes of Hazard were on the TV. I don't remember if there were racist elements in that show, and even if there had been I was too busy getting excited by the cool car jumping over bridges. Yeah, the flag had a bit of cool charm about it. I was naive. A few years later in my late teens and early 20's there were some folk in the rock and metal scene where I lived with confederate patches with slogans like 'The South will rise again' sewn on their denim jackets. If I knew then what I know now I'd have challenged them on that, but I was as naive as I expect they were at the time. Now when I see that flag I think racist. I expect the only people who want to be viewed as racists are real racists. If you are not one of them then don't fly that flag and don't put a pillow case on your head with eyeholes cut out of it. Both say the same thing to me.
 10. To me the confederate flag represents slavery, repression, racism. That is what the people who fought under that banner were fighting for. If you fly that flag then you are either naive if you don't believe or understand that is what it represents, or are showing support for those values. A certain amount of naivety can be excused, but supporting those values can not. For the avoidance of doubt perhaps you should lose the flags. I certainly would not want to associate with it in any way.
 11. For me it has to be Camera Obscura with their cover of Super Trooper.
 12. Studiospares have done some interesting blogs on soundproofing. http://proaudioblog.co.uk/2017/04/easy-soundproofing-home-studios/ I also read a good piece about soundproofed ventilation, but I can't remember where now. I'll stick up a link if it comes back to me. Interesting theory about room treatment from Junkie XL here as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdbwKvdX9ik Might be some food for thought.
 13.
I used tab for 20 years and then started on notation. I'm not a strong reader by any means, but I'm getting there - and I'd recommend it to everyone. I wish I had swapped earlier. Even books with tab and notation require the reader to look at both for rhythm information. It's more efficient to only need to look at one. And just like every other type of reading it really does only need 5 mins per day practice. That is far better than 1 hour at the weekend. I bought the ABRSM Double bass books - sight reading and the scale book. They are for DB, but I just ignore the bow information. they start dead easy, and slowly build. Worth every penny. Now when I get given a piano part to try and work out a bass part to accompany my far more talented kids, I don't just sh*t myself!
Great post.
 14.
What an excellent idea, I'm sure many of us would like a practice room/studio at home. I look forward with interest to see how it evolves.
What he said.
 15.
I'm guessing you liked TVRs Dood...
I thought it was Nissan!
 16. Tbh I wouldn't have thought a discount was appropriate, for many of the same reasons as any attempted increase wouldn't be. Of course, a full refund would be totally appropriate if you decided you were not prepared to wait any longer. But if you still want the amp then that's no use. Sadly you just have to call it quits or wait. I hope your perseverance is rewarded and you love it when you finally get it.
 17. Would it be easier for you to find a new band or a new wife? Which one do you care about the most? If it's honours even for those two questions then go to the gig with your wife. It was booked first!
 18.
I am not sure how I missed this thread but EVO? Oh and the guitar amp looks lovely, the Bass one? Can't say as it will not get past the profanity filter,
Yeah, it's funny how the DV Mark stuff looks so much classier than the MarkBass gear (unless you buy the budget Blackline as I just have!). Almost like they expect bass players to be tacky!
 19.
Nope - I use flats!
People change strings.
 20. You can watch the videos back. You don't have to see them live. I think he said that there are no plans to update the cabs for now but he is working on an amplifier so will be watching for that. Be interesting to see what he manages to achieve.
 21. 1977? That was when bad taste became fashionable, wasn't it?
 22. Seems fairly obvious they are after a Sid rather than a Glen!
 23. Try this guy for size. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oqyQXbmC34 And the top 5 riffs for beginners video is quite good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlZxvS4aHM0&t=2290s
 24. Lozz responded to a wanted thread I posted for some chrome P-bass ashtray covers. Good comms, fast delivery, covers are just the ticket. All round easy and pleasant to deal with.
