  1. My reaction these days when I see a Fender bass is “I wonder if it’s a real one?”; the fake logos thing has ruined the brand for me.

  3. That's a great album. I watched a documentary where Mark Farner said he got ripped off by the other members and isn't allowed to play his own songs now.
  4. I've said on occasion that Squire was just McCartney with the treble turned up.
  5. Ah, I am heading towards the bottom-left corner of Wales on the weekend, but that's still a bit distant. The problem with shipping one of those is the headstock...
  6. Router around pickups - well, that is artistic licence...
  7. I once got flamed for saying I didn't know who Jack Casady was.
  8. It's very easy to miss his playing if you listen to the Beatles on the radio. But if you sit down and listen to the music a lot of the songs are like a self-contained how to play the bass lesson. A really fine bass player. (If you discount his Yamaha period.)
  9. I've previously bought from them online and at guitar shows; I guess no more, though...
  10. The story of this bass is interesting; I think the bloke built it for a bet and hand-made the lot. The amount of work that went into it is quite staggering and it is certainly unique. However, the sad fact is that it is just not worth that amount of money.
  11. I know it's sacrilege, but I don't particularly like her bass playing. The song ain't bad, IMHO; I could put it next to my Aimee Mann CDs.
  12. Some of the workmanship seems OK, but putting the cheapo tuners makes a statement about its makers' confidence in the product.
  13. Well, it would be possible to get it and re-do its derrière with a proper headless bridge/tuner assembly.
  14. There's a nice glow to that fire.
  15. So that'll be as good as a Fender then!
  16. FYI, I recently bought this rare sought-after vintage lawsuit era guitar. It's an ugly sod and its best feature as it stands is probably the broken tuning key, which means it is unplayable.
  17. I think that the ones which bettered the original were very few. People often quote Tokai as a sort of blanket case, but actually they did a range, so it's dangerous to extrapolate the assertion that some were better than the original to all were.
