  1. I think I'll keep my £700. If I were going for a Westone, I might consider this one. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Westone-The-Rail-headless-bass-Red-and-black-Rare/153492957318
  2. I was just curious as to the price, rather than actually wanting to acquire one.
  3. As for shows, I like to have a good representation of used kit, parts, oddments, and junk boxes; I rarely buy new. For me the Kempton Park one has been pretty much spot-on; between that and the SE Bass bash I have a couple of things I look forward to. (@TheGreek I sure hope the costs are more than covered and the effort is worth it for the SE Bass Bash, which I know you go to 'cos we've met there!).
  4. I meant in general terms, or rather what have they recently sold for, rather than what is for sale now.
  5. What's the going price for a Greco 4001 copy these days?
  6. “Slow train back from London” - I don’t know that one!
  7. I’ve got Rics, Warwicks, Status, Fender/parts-built, and one or two others. I do like my Warwicks too. 🙂
  8. I’m surprised the shop didn’t reject them. Or are they expected to do final finish & setup, like car dealers do?
  9. I'm on 3 fakers at the moment. As far as real Rics go, I've only ever owned basses in the 4000 range, so I don't have much to say about the guitars or other models. Also, I've never bought a new one, so I've not had dealings with the company. So I don't see myself as a defender of the brand in particular.
  10. When you start personalising things is when I disconnect.
  11. Funnily enough, I have a Steinberger Spirit which I intend to put Ric pickups on!
  12. Ok - opinions are good.
  13. So, what vastly cheaper instrument does the job as well or better than a Ric bass?
  14. That is ironic, isn't it? 😕
  15. Well, it's the sound..., which spans decades.
  16. It takes a certain amount of skull... I mean skill... to make one of those!
  17. I've got a 4004 too...
  18. Looking good! I think gold will look good on that.
  19. Welcome to the club! I bought one too, a few weeks ago. When I plugged it in it turned out that it sounds rather good.
  20. You have to be a real man to be brave enough to admit you like the Rollers.
  21. As far as car parallels go, I would suggest the Rickenbacker bass is like a Lotus, in that they hit on a winning formula and have kept that DNA in the product throughout their history and have not bowed to pressure to conform with other brands. They're difficult to get into for some and the ride can be a bit hard, but by heck in their element they are fun! You’ve even got to take the cover off to enjoy it at its best.
