  1. Sheehan with the neck mudbucker. I've been toying with the idea of putting a Rickenbacker pickup on one.
  2. I think it needs a Precision, not a narrow Jazz neck! I can play a guitar, so different spacing shouldn't be an issue.
  3. OK - here's one I picked up recently; it's had a hard life... Getting it sorted is on my to-do list; stripping the finish and seeing whether the body is OK should be the first step. (It plays OK, so there's hope!) For a brighter outlook, this is a Strat I'm working on; I bought the rather nice body from a shop and built it out from there. I decided to go gold and the first bits fitted were a Schaller Floyd and some strap buttons; it took a while for a neck to appear.
  4. My Status selection. I'd really like a headless 5-string.
  5. Funnily enough, I have a 4 to 5 string conversion kit and sometime will put it onto a P.
  6. I don't know if John East to a pre for a P - I have one in a Jazz and it is huge!
  7. I just noticed that my TE 2x10 has a couple of those speakers in it.
  8. I bought a Variax guitar and the seller had replaced the neck with a cheapie because it had warped. I didn't think much of the replacement neck and I put a Squier one on it (just an Affinity one - they are surprisingly good, for pocket money) and it fitted fine. I did toy with the idea of transplanting the Variax gubbins to another guitar, but it looked like a lot of effort.
  9. I've got a P and I put a Fender USA pickup on it; it sounds really good! It is a good bass. I did have a Shadow (German) pickup on it, but that got shifted to my Frankenstein. I've also got a very beaten up MIM Precision, but I don't recall what it sounds like, TBH... I did have a Squier, which I sold for £60 - it was surprisingly good; I think it was all stock. That said, when I plugged in my Thunder, I did do a double-take, because it sounds darned good! It is bloomin' heavy, though! If I were starting out from scratch, I'd be looking at the EMG Geezer pickups. (Dunno how I ended up with 3 Precisions - a few years back I'd have laughed if someone suggested I'd even have one!)
  10. That's the way all multi-strings are, isn't it?
  11. It is quite something, isn't it?
  12. So, I added the couple of extra tuners. There's one more thing I need to sort before I can put strings on it - the string holes in the bass bridge I'm using are too wide, so I need a stopbar or something to catch the ball-ends.
  13. Well South of £200. I paid £150 for one a couple of years back and I believe I over-paid; however, the resulting bass turned out to be excellent, so I think I got a good one!
  14. I know - it shouldn't be allowed! I did once play someone's Fender Mustang bass and it was rather nice.
  15. A selection of Statii...
  16. Does it need a 4-wire cable? <= Sorry, wrong thread!
  17. Yup... ...plus I also like Rickenbackers! 🙂
  18. Mind you, I think of all Squiers as sub-£100 instruments (shock/horror to the JV etc. fans!).
  19. Not all Rics have the treble cap (eg. the one I linked above). Some of the current 4003 models have it switchable. For a mono jack, the two hot wires run to the tip. With the switch removed I guess you'd connect the pickups hot wires and the tone caps to the Vol centre tabs, rather than floating.
  20. I'd buy one for under £100.
  21. What are the series 220k resistors for?
  22. I'd look at the Rickenbacker schematics and lose the switch. http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/19501.pdf (Note that Ric wire the output to the top of the pot and the input to the centre/wiper; this reduces the interplay between the pickups respective controls.)
  23. Dunno if it's still about, but there was a Shergold bass base plate (no saddles) on ebay a while back; it's always worth a check anyway...
  24. Well, it appears I just might be...
  25. I have wondered if the speakers in these could be replaced by full-range ones; however, the size of the cabinet is small too and physics would come into play.
