1. I'm really, really digging this project!
2. Thanks for clearing that up dude! I can see that being very handy, not only for Stingrays, but for many, many other basses, Rickenbackers strike me instantly as an example(rather than their suck mode cap).
3. So, what's happening here, is it a cap across the hot and ground of the pickup, and what's it doing to the tone. And yes, agreed on the EBTaliban Forum, lord knows you should never want an alnico pickup in your Sterling, are you mad?!
4. And here it is with the Model One, and Glockenklag 3 band pre.
5. Here's my Shine RK2000-NT Came stock with the Duncan Rick pickups, but the neck pickup is much lower output, and quite weak on the E string. Thinking of modding it for a Dimarzio Model One, and an active preamp.
6. E-C is a fantastically fun tuning! Good luck with it.
I've strung my (already unlined fretless) 1990 MM 'Ray5 EADGC. Best thing I ever did. Higher tunings sound more obviously "fretless". Assuming that's what you want of course. IMHO the best tuning of any fiver would probably be DGCFBb (so down a tone from EADGC), allowing you access to drop "D" as well as the higher registers.
DGCFBb is quite probably my fave tuning, espcially with a Hipshot Drop Tuner, so you can get the low C, that'll cover a tonne of ground.
7. This is one badass project, congrats!
8.
not heard of the 133s before. apart from the limited colours and eq is there any difference between these and the normal rays? As it happens I was after a blue one with a maple board and a 2 band eq. could be just the ticket at £400 quid less than the SR4 assumin everything else is the same.
Just the lack of a hardshell case. I'm heavily tempted by the red/maple one myself, almost exactly what I want in one(I'd prefer a gloss neck), and would only be delighted to not have another hardshell case taking up space when I don't use 'em. I have a custom bass on order at the moment and have to be a good boy, it's hard.....
9.
Either someone with a chronic respiratory disease or a member of TalkBass..... I can't decided which.
Sometimes both!
TalkBass(er) These are the guys responsible for that blue tele bass. http://www.crookcustomguitars.com/paislies.php
They're responsible for the one in the OP too, which is why I posted it.
10. The 133's are a special run the UK importer arranged to save money, recession buster and all that. Limited options, red, blue, or black, maple or rosewood, and 4 string only. 2-Band pre-amp. No hardshell.
11. I like this one too, owned by a Tber.
12. You'll need a special pickguard for that!
13. Heh, I'm betting it's 100% this part of the quote. "I also changed my E string to a heavier .125 from a 5-string set."
14. Oh, this, I've heard this before, I believe RATM's bassist has the same done to his BEAD necks. Sad to say, but it won't work. A pitch is defined by the strings tension between the nut and bridge saddle, it dosen't matter about any length beyond those two points. Still, as you say, it looks cool, which I'd say is reason enough!
15. Why would a left handed neck make it any eaiser for drop tunings? That said, I think the combo looks fantastic.
