1. My word, that was incredible! Truly incredible! Downloaded the mp3, and music sheets, definitely not gonna be able to pull all that off, but I should hopefully learn something in the attempt!
2. Exactly, agreed completely. The biggest thing about all that, these fans, they do put a negative light on the company themselves, sadly.
3.
Blasphemy!!!! burn him! burn him aliiiive!!!!
I thought it was getting hot here......
I think its probably because they have a 4 month+ waiting list (and Ive been buying new from them for over 10 years now) and this wait always seems to be around this long. In fact, its got longer.
That explains company view, maybe, but I mean from the fans attacking on TB. Quite often it was inferred if you couldn't play just as well on 17.5mm, maybe you lacked talent or dedication.
5ers are still new to me, in all honesty. I tried 34", 35" and all different spacings. In the end, I went with tone and quality over everything else, and that happened to be Musicman. I do understand those who want a 19mm, but I think personally I could adapt to anything.
Some can adapt, sure, but some need that wide spacing, thin spacing, one scale or another, thick or thin necks, etc. I actually have the reverse problem, I prefer 17.5mm, and can play on 18mm fine. But true widenecks are a major issue, I've carried wide 5ers to jams and ended up with major cramps before the session was over, and it wasn't due to being used to thinner spacing, as I began on wide spaced 5ers.
4. The whole deal that they can't see that some might want/need/prefer wide spacing is mindboggling. I mean why do they think all the other company's make 'em that way, just to screw with people?
5.
Yeah, some of the posters on TB really seem to have it in for Sterling Ball. WHilst I am dubious whether the numbers proposed and the window being used would really give this a cahnce at success, I was keen to order one to help it along. Sterling's offer to give the money to charity shows that he really is a top bloke. Some of the TB posters following the announcement of the charity offer and the price reduction were downright cringeworthy. Its a big shame there is basically no way for someone outside of the US to order one unless you reach an agreemetn with someone in the US to do the whole thing for you.
I was dubious from the start myself, posting the thread here was my attempt at helping it along, before we found out the no UK deal. I had no love for Sterling at the start of this, but I wouldn't have called myself a hater. After all this, I'd say he's a decent bloke, just rough around the edges as it were. As for TB's response to the charity deal, dreadful, truly. Definitely a shame about there being no way for someone outside the US to order one.
6. Dang.... cream really would look good....
7. Dang, that whole thing became a disasterpiece across Tb and the MM forums. Shame they're not including peeps outside the US.
8.
Seeing as the thread's been revived, can I just point out that Robbie is clearly playing over the middle pickup in these photos, presumably getting his deep booming reggae bass sound without needing to resort to the neck puckup.
But the neck pickup could be on, regardless of where he's plucking. I'd never pluck that close to the neck, even though I often use pickups that close to the neck.
9. Ooh! Sweet score! Congrats!
10. I didn't know the song either before looking for a good Stingray soundclip.
11. Fredded, and a vid, but this is a pretty good example. With some sweet bass tone too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vH8uZ51RVRE
12. I get a little OCD about things like pickups in relation to string spacing. Honestly, one of the main reasons I changed the stock pickup in my SX to a Duncan, when I got a wider bridge for it. Still got that SX MM pickup to stick into something......
13. Well, since you don't like the Nordstrand, but already know you like the Duncan, why not ask Duncan to make a wider one, they have a custom shop, and it's not a major job so I can't imagine it being too much more expensive. Delano's an option too, they'll do any string spacing in Alnico or Ferrite.
14.
Hmmmmmmmm...
Heh, I'm like a moth to a flame for flashy stuff. Probably explains why I like Trabens too...
15. Kinda like that, but ugh, imagine after a few months of sweat and such is rubbed into , bleh!
16. Man, GB makes some gorgeous basses. The "sound to light" system is one of the coolest things ever.
17.
Neck: yes, that sems to be the thing that makes people love it or hate it. That neck is the reason I bought it! I think the B is ok, but pickups/preamp are not going to help much... the other strings don't sound much better (in that respect you can say it has a very balanced sound )
Nothing wrong with that, personal taste and all that! It may just be a snafu at the factory on my one, as Fender had to replace the pickups and electronics due to a battery issue, maybe they dropped in some four strings by mistake, heh.
18. Very nice sound to that.
19.
you are right, I already put a Seymour Duncan SMB5A I have at the appropriate location for a Stingray vibe, just placed it on top of the existing pickup, for visual purposes. It looks killer I was only 90% serious If I do it, I will post the results on the EBMM forum. But I'll post an advance warning here so you all have time to buy popcorn and swtich over to watch the fireworks
If you do go for it, you might be better off with a Nordstrand pickup, more expensive, but they make one suited to 19mm spacing already.
20. I have one of these, but never got on too well with it. Killer, killer looks, but the neck is just too huge for me, once I carried it to a long jam and ended up in a lot of pain. The B on mine was pretty weak too, I've hacked it to bits swapping out all kinds of pickups to test things. Eventually I need to fix it up. Heh. That said, they do look great, and sound it too, plus most don't seem to have the issues I've had with mine, so good luck with it!
