Has anyone got a Tokia are they any good?
I've tried one was alright, but would recommend a decent old MIJ copy (not a Kay!) over one anyday. Just spotted 'Bushes scream while my daddy prunes' - Very Things on your signature. What a song, you have impeccable taste sir!
 2.
[Dodgy American accent] Hey there, RickenBuddies! [/Dodgy American accent] I need a pickup surround for the bridge pickup on a 4001/4003. I do NOT want a vintage/original surround - it's going to be b*ggered around with, so what I want is either a cheap after-market item or something salvaged from a RickenFaker. Anyone got something suitable lying around that they'd like to convert into cash?
Was tempted a while ago to try one of these, but I decided to put the cover back on - IMO looks cooler Pickguardian (Ric 4000)
 3.
Heard his stuff with Tackhead? and Keith LeBlanc's solo stuff? Dirty, dirty bass! It's what made me buy a Thumb :-)
He did some tasty playing with Bomb the Bass too!
 4. +1 for TackHead Some nice bass work on this
 5. Someone I know who collects vintage Gibson basses, uses Craigs List. Not tried it myself though.
 6. After spending what seemed like an eternity working out Abba's 'Dancing Queen' for an unsuccessful local audition, where the band couldn't play it anyway, because they'd forgotten to bring along the backing track(?!) - thought I'd have a crack at 'Forget Me Nots' by Patrice Rushen. What a great, iconic bassline! I found surprisingly easy, considering I'm not really a slapper. My Ibby Blazer with steel rounds nails Freddie Washington's tone nicely.
 7.
Sounds awesome, may be just what im after , did you buy them from the webstrings website? did you have to pay any duty on them? Was delivery prompt ? Sorry for all the questions , im just curious
Got them direct from Webstrings. No, I didn't pay any duty. Received them in four days - pretty good. Would (and will) use Webstrings again.
 8.
Some more help if anyone needs it is here... Not perfect but it's a good help as you can hear him over the mix.
Thanks for that. He does some nice little run on the E-String at one point that I just couldn't make it out on the original.
If you download this pdf to music software which is free, it'll play the pdf bass line solo. You can slow it down too. http://www.myriad-online.com/en/products/pdftomusic.htm
That's quite a handy tool, thanks again for your help Sean. Think I've nailed the song now - just got to keep it in my head! Still got to get round to learning to sight read. Promised myself, I'd finally get round to doing it over next year. Cheers
 9.
If you want to hear what a sh*t hot covers band sounds like, follow the link in Terry's sig to 'beneath the covers'. Simply stunning!
That is very good. I agree - quality, but these aren't your typical run-of-the-mill pub covers band.
Put this into Google and you'll get loads of them: "dancing queen" "bass tab"
There are loads of tabs/chords for guitar, but this is the only bass tab I could find, which is also duplicated on couple of other sites. I don't think it's correct. Abba - Dancing Queen No worries though, from a combination of Terry's excellent notation & endlessly listening to it on my car stereo I think I've (hopefully) now got it to to a near reasonable level of playing. Sounds nice played on P-Bass with flats. Very muddy & unclear production on the original though isn't it? Cheers
 10.
Hope this helps
Many thanks Terry - it does, though I cant sight read  Will work through it tonight & try to knock a tab together. Of all the Abba songs there doesn't seem to a tab on the net for Dancing Queen. There's quite a lot going on as well, isn't there. For some reason, the stereo in my car picks up the bassline on this track quite well. So I will have playalong to it on the backseat! Thanks again
 11. I do like the of what's been tweaked here with the traditional P-Bass design ; Shuker JJ Burnel
 12. Hi All, I have an audition in a few days and one of the songs I need to learn is 'Dancing Queen'! Think I nailed other 7 songs on my list to (to what I think to be) a fairly competant level, but for some reason I'm having difficulty picking out everything the bass player's doing on this last song - might be due to the production, Hi-Fi speakers or even my cloth ears! Was wondering if anyone may have a tab, chart or even Midi file for this song, they'd be willing to share... Thanks for any help.

 14.
No worries Nick - I won't be bidding! I do like it, though, it's almost a semi-acoustic Mosrite copy. This will be Japanese, late 60s or early 70s. Bruno was a US importer/distributor & presumably Royal Artist was a sub-brand thereof. In fact this bass, or one like it, has been through the Bay before, and was discussed &, I think, lusted after right here at that time: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=196039 Can't remember if it sold, and obviously the listing's long-gone, so this might be the original seller having another go. Can't help thinking a £150 start's a bit steep for such an obscure bass, regardless of how unique/original it is. J.
Buggar. Just found out my wife's arranged for our drive to be done in two weeks = no money! Better unsnipe that lovely bass. Here it is back on - apologies! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:X:AAQ:GB:1123 You're right, though a nice looking bass - price is maybe a shade too high.
 15.
As the V8 looks like its sold, I now have the 4 x 12 that needs a good home. This is a superb cabinet and comes with a cover. Also I have put wheels on it so it is more mobile! Sensible offers please! Picture Added THe V8 is sold so its just the cab!
Have a bump mate! Got one of these myself - great cabs. Deserves a good home
 16. Have you considered the Moosapotamus' Paralooper? Thread here about it, with comments from the designer & builder himself, with a lot of good feedback. 17.
I know that this is only £30 starting bid, but I'm sure the seller could have written a more encouraging description of it than this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OLD-JAP-BASS-GUITAR_...5QQcmdZViewItem On second thoughts, the description isn't so bad. But the price is £30 + £20 p&p. So that's a minimum of £50 unless collected. Is it really worth that?

That looks like one of those Aria A-200 burns-a-likes, or one with another brand on it like the 'Eclipse' that went up on Ebay earlier today. It has the scratch plate over the top horn missing. http://matsumoku.org/models/aria/bass/a-100_200.html
I had one of those A-200 things in sunburst, it was alright, fun to play - thinking about it now, wish I'd never got rid of it. They quite often come up on Ebay, usually with R/W fingerboard. Never seen one like that with a maple F/B though. However, it has also been re-painted red.
 18. Class cabs, got one myself - use it with a V-Type head. I don't think you can beat the sound of a good 4x12. It certainly chucks the sound out. Didn't realise they were rare, however you don't see many TE 4x12's about Good luck with the sale, though I think in time you'll miss it!
 19. Me too, looking forward to it - good luck.
 20.
A lot of Precisions can be a bit hit and miss but usually you cannot go wrong with the Japanese ones. Cost wise, about £250 upwards I guess.
+1 on Japanese. Depending on how much you want to pay, old Tokais & Greco copies are generally consistently as good as decent Fenders. Another good Precision inspired bass worth considering (IMO) is an Ibanez Blazer. They come up on Ebay fairly frequently, & are not that expensive. I've got one strung with steel rounds, & when I dig in with a pick - nails Hanley's tone. You want a tone like this, yeah?! Bombast or this Behind The Counter or even this! Wrong Place, Right Time Apologies, any excuse to go on about the Fall or MES - 'He is not appreciated!' Good luck with your search!
 21.
can anyone recommend software that does the same as a bass trainer does? ie enable you to loop a section of a song that you're trying to learn and also change the key without changing the tempo. I've thought about getting one of the Tascam style ones but if I have a song to learn then the music is generally on my PC anyway. the facility to burn the song in the new key would be fantastic as well but does such a beast exist?
Hi, I use Best Practice , from a recommendation on another thread on here - which works well for me. However, I'm sure there are many others. Cheers
 22.
A decent P Pup? My abbreviation knowlege needs some work! What's that? Thanks to all the above. Nice to know what he used. I have also seen them a couple of times - in 1997, with the Hanley/Burns rhythm section (as I'm also a drummer, it was my dream night!), and in 2002, which I think was filmed. TBH, the '97 gig was the best. Better group, and more chaotic! It was just months before he sacked all the band, and the gig was looking dubious from the off. The band played the opening riff of 'Masquerade' for about 10 mins before Smith arrived, considerably refreshed. They proceeded to play the loudest gig I've ever attended - including Motorhead! I've not bought the last few LP's - I really should - but I found post '98 that the guys he was working with really lacked any identity or 'groove', like the old Hanley rhythm section. But I do hear that the new LP is a corker!
+1 for Stephen Hanley. Surprised 'Bremen' hasn't dropped in on this thread yet to pay respect to the mighty Fall. As well as precisions, over the years he's also used a Peavey T-40 & a Stingray, but he always had a thunderous sound live usually, through a cranked up SVT. IMHO his duration in the band was definitely their glory years. my favourite album for his playing & input is 'Middle Class Revolt' Great track this one: Cheers
 23.
I am not a big fan of Behringer and I don't have any commercial relationship with them apart from being a customer. I am slightly surprised by the comments of this thread. As we all know, Behringer produces pedals that are inexpensive. They cost far less than the originals and usually they don’t sound too bad (especially considering the price). A Behringer pedal I have comes with instructions that contain the following specifications: Power supply: 9V 100mA regulated. Behringer PSU-SB Power connector: 2mm DC jack, negative center Battery: 9V type 6LR61 These are the conditions under which the pedal has been design and should be used. Nobody stops me to use other types of power supply but if I do it, I do it at my own risk. I agree that some protection on the power supply should be part of the design of a pedal (I include it in all the pedals I design and produce) but equally I don’t see it as fundamental requirement of an as-cheap-as-it-gets pedal.
+1 I know of pedals of several other manufacturers including EHX, that have been buggared by incorrect PSU connection. For what it's worth my Behringer BDI21 is still going strong after nearly two years constant use
 24.
Another Satellite through neck P. Keep being tempted by these. This guy is really selling on the Matsomuku: 130266225975
Go on Oli you know you want to. They're actually not bad, borrowed one for a gig couple years ago - was quite pleasantly surprised. Good solid basses.
 25. A bass player who I personally rate, Mick Quinn from Supergrass now uses an L-Series Steinberger, in favour of his usual Ibanez Blazer - quite a change. Still couldn't bring myself to have one though...
