2. He's namechecked a few times on this forum, but definitely underrrated. Big influence on myself when I started, along with Andy Rourke. IMHO, think his best moment was on 'Themes for Great Cities' from 'Sisters Feelings Call' album (recommended). I've said it before that I think he's playing for his life here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJDx-1L3V9U Though pretty much everything he did with Simple Minds was pure class. Why did he leave Simple Minds, was he pushed(?). There's a few opinions & thoughts, on the internet if you dig enough. Maybe his style stood in the way of them becoming a bland, stadium act they turned into. Draw your own conclusions. However he did return for their 'Neapolis' album in '97 & tour albeit a year or so, which had some good moments. Anyway, good call!

  4.
the strings are tauter near the bridge too, so when it comes to playing fast it can be easier at that end of the the bass. Having said that I agree, I generally prefer the warmth of the neck end.
There is more tension at the bridge end. Though with a heavier gauge of string, faster stuff can be done down at neck end too. I find myself playing all over the area. However, these days more over the pick-up (P-Bass) & at the neck. Varies according to music, bass, strings etc. You can get get so many tonal varieties, just from which area you pluck the strings with both fingers & a pick - it's good to experiment.

  7.
For collabaration. Would be cool to work with another bassist, guitarist, keyboards - not too fussed about a drummer(!) Drone, Dark Ambient, Post Rock kinda stuff. BassMunkee at MySpace or BassMunkee at Acidplanet Anyway let me know - hell we need never even meet in person - we could do it all digitally!!
Hi BassMunkee, Just PM'd you. Know of a Bristol band that might suit you, that are looking for a bass player. Was going to do it myself, but due to work cannot committ. Nice guys & good tunes. Give it a go... Cheers Nick
Never seen a "fireglo" one of these before & it looks pretty tidy - but the other 2 he's selling (not Rickenbuggers) are much more unusual & interesting: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1970s-MAYA-TELECASTE...emZ130252603129 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1970s-JAPANESE-ARBIT...emZ130252608664 J.
Quite taken with the Maya myself actually, may have a punt
  11. 12. All the time on my P-Bass with flats, usually 1/2 to 3/4 way up, very occaisionally on full.
  13.
+1 And 'A New Career In A New Town' from the same album...
A brilliant song, up there in my own top ten of all time favourite songs. George Murray was the bass player on that album & the other 'Berlin Trilogy' ones.
  14.
No love for Adrian Sherwood?
+1 for Sherwood - good call. Did some amazing On-U Sound stuff. I'm goind to add Andrew Weatherall & Jacknife Lee Though not strictly bassists
  15.
I was f***ing shocked £750 I sold the ray for, got stung £25 ish by paypal then today I find £30 ebay final value fee what a bunch of c**ts. Now I don't like using that word but thats what they are, I will not be selling anything but tat on there from now on.
Well said. Couldn't put it better myself. They're obviously cashing in the current economic climate, whereby some people need to sell things to get by. Hopefully, ebay's latest action may help to stimulate a bit of competition & get some of the other sites like Ebid going.
  16.
No, I can't. If you want cheap why don't you just lean the bass against something! The Ultimate is a pretty good stand.
+1 for Ultimate. I've got a GS100, was lucky in getting it locally for a fiver on evilbay. However, think it's worth the £20 price tag (new). Takes any shaped bass & is pretty sturdy. Quite compact too.
  17.
Is there anyone that knows where to find a cheaper model of the the Thunderbird nonreverse or know anyone that is selling one at a fair price? I have been looking all over for one.
Hi, Know this is a while after this posting, but if you're still after a non-reverse Thunderbird, there's one on ebay at the moment at what seems not a bad price. Cheers
  18.
Nice, that. Does yours have the one-piece neck like this one, or skunk stripe? J.
Well spotted Jon. Mine is different with skunk stripe thru-neck as opposed to the Fernandes one-piece.
  19. Nice looking Fernandes 4001S 'Faker',very similar to my Maya with exception of neck pickup & control knobs....but alas in Japan. I love mine - recommended.
This thread and the "The One You Wish You'd Never Sold" thread have got me crying into my keyboard. I used to have a superb RB950 It played beautifully and had such a wide range of tones available as each of the humbuckers was coil tapped. I owned it for a couple of years but then sold it on and replaced it with a Yamaha BB414 of all things. I've seen posts on a couple of forums with a link to my photo on the Ibanez register asking anyone with information to the whereabouts of a similar bass to come forward. I really regret selling this bass as I realise that the chances of finding another are almost impossible. I can't believe I let it go...pass the kleenex
Gorgeous bass - seen this photo around. It's two pickup, 24 fret version of mine. You have every right to feel gutted (sorry)! Will Sinnott of the Shamen used one - Rave On! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EaUX6V8ZQv0
A nice pair of blazers......well i think so. An 81 on the left and an 80 to the right. I liked Bob (left)so much i just had to have another. These guys used to live together and thanks to The burpster and Basszilla respectively they're back together again at mine.
Very nice. I have one identical to one on the left - killer bass, blows away many a Fender Is there much of a diffrence in sound/tone between them? Cheers

    Fuzz

Hi, I posted a similar question to Justin Meldal-Johnsen on Talkbass & got some good recommendations http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=459734 Also, this guy's site is pretty good http://bassfuzz.com/ Good luck in your search, though as already mentioned fuzz taste is quite personal Cheers
