I'm told that it can be fixed with a very simple operation...so simple that it's *almost* affordable to get done privately.
"Dupuytren's contracture" - sounds like a track by The Fall(?!) How's it going Chris? Currently revisting 'M5#1' - awesome bassline. Hanley rules or what? Getting back to the subject; I use my little finger - when required
This looks like it dates from the sixties but i think someone has put a pbass pup on at some point. about seventy five quid at the moment. http://cgi.ebay.ca/RARE-SOVIET-RUSSIAN-BAS...1QQcmdZViewItem
I visit Ukraine & Russia fairly frequently due to my wife being from this region. There are a lot of these 'Soviet' guitars & basses around, if you know where to look & unsurprisingly dirt cheap. Trust me, the majority are unplayable (tree-trunk necks),dodgy built quality with crap pickups & this is coming from someone who likes his old Jap/Italian crap, I can do without modern ergonomic basses myself. Would advise steer clear of most of this stuff - its generally sh*te. Shame really, as there are some cool & whacky designs, but totally ungiggable. OK for a video shoot I suppose.
About £250 after I've re-valved it? The current pre-amp valves are "Fender" branded so they're probabaly the original ones close on 30 years old! All controls working fine otherwise.
PM'd you Cheers
Most PC/printer combinations have a card slot somewhere - I usually take the xD card out of my camera and just plug it straight in. Alternatively, a universal card reader from Jessops costs less than £10.
Cheers - much appreciated -
For smaller venues, try a WEM Dominator with a 15" Celestion (most have 12"). You can still get them - in great condition - for under £200 if you're prepared to keep looking.
+1 I love mine

And where abouts are you in the sou-weh, if you're non-too secretive?
Hi Paul, I'm based in Bristol/Bath area. I've got some photos here (in bass section), however it needs updating with some recent additions of Ibanez Blazer, Aria Lazer & a Mazeti 330 Ricenfaker. Lost my camera USB lead!
Really nice & playable bass - bit sad to have sold it, on reflection, but it didn't feel or sound right for the band - and they all have to justify their existence by being something I'd gig with. J.
Understand where you're coming from there Jon. Having said all that, new drummer & guitarist in band I'm in, are loving all my basses . Where there's a will there's a way! Make the band fit round your Japcrap - I have! -

Taking all that into account with zero feedback
I think tucking in a curly lead has gotta be a disaster visually. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcTW1-znxeQ Check out youtube, jimi hendrix live a the marquee, rare 2nd take of Hey Joe. At approx 2.05 you can clearly see Noel has a 'White!' curly lead tucked up behind his strap.
Pure class - respect to Mr. Redding! Wonder if anyone else uses a curly lead other than me?

I solely used Elites steels for the last 15 or so years, quite happy with them, still think they're good. However, now I like to experiment a bit, so I use allsorts. I like differing tones & feel, with varying tensions that I get from different brands. Tokai PBass : Ernie Ball 45-100 flats. Nice thump Maya Rickenfaker : Elites Nickel 45-105 rounds. Warmer than steels, not too zingy. Commodore semi : d'Addario Chromes Flats (32") 45-100. Quite bright sounding, counterbalances a woolly bass. Ibanez Blazer : Elites steels 45-105. Gives bass a real growl I'm going to continue trying more different ones in the future too.

I got a no-name cast bridge new off Ebay for about £12. Bit heavier in construction, saddles tracked to prevent sliding, similar design to original. Didn't like the look of Badass & seemed a bit overkill for what I wanted. Works a treat

I don't do it myself - prefer to live dangerously! It spoils the look of my curly lead
And is it easy to change the pups, I would like a bit more thump/thud!
It's not too difficult really, you just need a soldering iron & a steady hand, pickups should be a straight swap. I also put something like a newspaper, old towell, etc over the bass itself incase of any little drops of molten solder, protecting the finish I've tried the SD (SPB-3) Quarter Pounders & the (SPB-2) 'Hot' P-Bass pickups. Settled on the SPB-1 Vintage model, with 45-105 flats on my Tokai - gives me plenty of thump & thud. Though, will probably get a Wizard, when I next need another pickup due to all positive reviews
'noon, Welcome to the JapCrap Firewood Club! (Life President: Bassassin) try here: http://www.matsumoku.org/temp_pages/nikki_...lada_inside.jpg for some info. I've a suspicion that there are two types & the specs differ considerably depending on the year (you can tell what year it was made from the first digit of the serial number - 6xxxxxx = 1986). I got a lefty passive Laser Heritage for a mate of mine last year & can tell you the following... 34" scale, 22 fret quarter sawn laminated 3-piece maple neck (so it's built like a tank). Hefty die-cast alloy bridge (1.5mm allen screws for adjustment ) that's unlike anything that isn't an Aria, so I hope it's all there. 1 "soapbucker" & 1 single coil pickup with the usual 3-way either/both switch, one vol & tone. The body wood is indeterminate at this point in their history, but is likely to be Basswood or similar - the whole bass has a good heft about it without feeling as though it's cast from granite. Sound? couldn't tell as I've yet to hear this one in anger & the p/ups have been replaced with Seymour Duncans for some reason - but in original condition it should have a nice warm middly neck with a bit of bite from the bridge. Good call - photo's & soundclips please (but then I'm a tad biased) Pete.
Cheers Pete. Here's the Ebay link - It only got one bid! Hello All, Just bagged a 80's Aria Pro2 Lazer off Ebay, quite cheap. Took a bit of a gamble, as there was no photo, but described as being in good condition, with exception being a broken active switch - which I can fix. Does anyone please know anything about this bass, very little on Web Many thanks
