http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcTW1-znxeQ Check out youtube, jimi hendrix live a the marquee, rare 2nd take of Hey Joe. At approx 2.05 you can clearly see Noel has a 'White!' curly lead tucked up behind his strap.
Pure class - respect to Mr. Redding! Wonder if anyone else uses a curly lead other than me?
  2. This page along with it's associated forum, may be of some use http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/...parcel-delivery Cheers
  3. I solely used Elites steels for the last 15 or so years, quite happy with them, still think they're good. However, now I like to experiment a bit, so I use allsorts. I like differing tones & feel, with varying tensions that I get from different brands. Tokai PBass : Ernie Ball 45-100 flats. Nice thump Maya Rickenfaker : Elites Nickel 45-105 rounds. Warmer than steels, not too zingy. Commodore semi : d'Addario Chromes Flats (32") 45-100. Quite bright sounding, counterbalances a woolly bass. Ibanez Blazer : Elites steels 45-105. Gives bass a real growl I'm going to continue trying more different ones in the future too.
  4. I got a no-name cast bridge new off Ebay for about £12. Bit heavier in construction, saddles tracked to prevent sliding, similar design to original. Didn't like the look of Badass & seemed a bit overkill for what I wanted. Works a treat
  5. I don't do it myself - prefer to live dangerously! It spoils the look of my curly lead

    Pups
And is it easy to change the pups, I would like a bit more thump/thud!
It's not too difficult really, you just need a soldering iron & a steady hand, pickups should be a straight swap. I also put something like a newspaper, old towell, etc over the bass itself incase of any little drops of molten solder, protecting the finish I've tried the SD (SPB-3) Quarter Pounders & the (SPB-2) 'Hot' P-Bass pickups. Settled on the SPB-1 Vintage model, with 45-105 flats on my Tokai - gives me plenty of thump & thud. Though, will probably get a Wizard, when I next need another pickup due to all positive reviews
  7.
'noon, Welcome to the JapCrap Firewood Club! (Life President: Bassassin) try here: http://www.matsumoku.org/temp_pages/nikki_...lada_inside.jpg for some info. I've a suspicion that there are two types & the specs differ considerably depending on the year (you can tell what year it was made from the first digit of the serial number - 6xxxxxx = 1986). I got a lefty passive Laser Heritage for a mate of mine last year & can tell you the following... 34" scale, 22 fret quarter sawn laminated 3-piece maple neck (so it's built like a tank). Hefty die-cast alloy bridge (1.5mm allen screws for adjustment ) that's unlike anything that isn't an Aria, so I hope it's all there. 1 "soapbucker" & 1 single coil pickup with the usual 3-way either/both switch, one vol & tone. The body wood is indeterminate at this point in their history, but is likely to be Basswood or similar - the whole bass has a good heft about it without feeling as though it's cast from granite. Sound? couldn't tell as I've yet to hear this one in anger & the p/ups have been replaced with Seymour Duncans for some reason - but in original condition it should have a nice warm middly neck with a bit of bite from the bridge. Good call - photo's & soundclips please (but then I'm a tad biased) Pete.
Cheers Pete. Here's the Ebay link - It only got one bid! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...:EOIBSA:GB:1123
  8. Hello All, Just bagged a 80's Aria Pro2 Lazer off Ebay, quite cheap. Took a bit of a gamble, as there was no photo, but described as being in good condition, with exception being a broken active switch - which I can fix. Does anyone please know anything about this bass, very little on Web Many thanks
  9.
Hi there, I have the following pedals and wondered if anyone could give me some advice on the order of the pedals? My pedals are: Boss tuner Boss Octave OC3 Ashdown bass overdrive Sansamp bass driver MXR Micro amp (used as just a boost when using ashdown pedal) At the moment I have the pedals set up in the following chain: Sansamp=>Boss Octave=>Ashdown overdrive=>MXR Micro amp=>Tuner Would anyone suggest a different order or is this ok? should octave go before distortion or after? Cheers
Not sure myself, but mine seem to be in opposite order to yours! Don't know which is correct order though(?) Guess whichever way is best for you.... Guitar > Boss Tuner > EHX Octave Multiplexer > Marshall Guv'nor > Homemade Fuzz > Dod Exciter > Behringer BDI21 Bass Driver > Amp
  10.
Also go for support gigs at the Fleece and Fiddlers. To get more you will need to bring loadsa people (it's the same old rules)
Contact Bristolbands, they do free showcases at the Fleece for various genres of music. We did that, & managed to get a gig (albeit a Tuesday night one), for next week.
  11.
...Brian Ritchie Violent Femmes
+1 Would like to add Ibanez Blazer basher Mick Quinn (Supergrass)
  12.
At these prices, we may need to re-define "crap" ... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tokai-Jazz-Sound-vin...1QQcmdZViewItem
It is Jap, but definitely not crap!
  13. Mark Burgess : Chameleons Julian Phillips : Marion Lee Belsham : Dr. Phibes & the House of Wax Equations
  14. Couple of eighties classics. & one that deserves to be: Alexander O'Neal : Criticize http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CySYwZNH65I Smooth! 15. Not a Wishbass, but still weird http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Really-Strange-4-Str...1QQcmdZViewItem
  16.
Hi peeps, does anyone know where i can get a decal or maybe replacement truss rod cover for my ric copy(rickenfaker, rickenbugger, actual name, etc)???cheers Craig
I did have an email from someone in States a while ago, who made & sold fake Rick covers. I declined in the end - but will try to his address this weekend & PM it to you. I'm quite proud of my Japcrap 4001 V64. I also like the fact that on a few occaisions it has got up the nose of a few Rickenstapo. Just out of interest; what do you have, & why would you want it to pass it off as a Rick anyway? IMHO a decent lawsuit 4001 copy is way cooler.
  17.
Aye. That bloody lead'd be the first thing to go.
What's wrong with curly leads Rich? Swear by mine, can't play with a straight one anymore.
  18. I have played one myself, & they do seem to well made. Plus, I do kind of like the ethos behind them. Wouldn't suit my style personally, there again I'm not a fretless fan anyway. If I want to go down that route, I'll get a doublebass. Though you must admit they are a bit of a weird looking, bonkers shape Oli
  19.
Someone should snap his arm off for that price..... It can be knckered and its worth more than that.
I got it myself in the end. 'Justified' getting another precision style bass for roundwounds, & at the price couldn't resist it any longer myself - Wife OK'd it. Apologies! It is a cracking bass. Excellent condition, & (for me) no need to mod it
  20. Tempted now myself - though I don't have much room for many more guitars!
  21. Not on Ebay, but a good price nevertheless (methinks) http://bristol.gumtree.com/bristol/61/21568561.html
  22. Nice, but absolutely overpriced! Whoa I didn't see that headstock - tacky - awful! If someone was after something like this they'd be better off shopping around/waiting for an 80's Ibanez to crop up (which this bass alost imitates amongst others) http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1983_84/bass/p06.jpg, which will also at least hold it's value - if bought at realistic price. Cheaper & more tasteful.
  23.
Do they work? I fancy getting one for one (or possibly both) of my basses because I go between standard and drop D a lot in a set and something like that would be pretty useful and would save a lot on fannying about with tuning on stage and save time between songs too. Actually, typing that has made me realise that I could put it to use during a song too. Looking online they run at about $90 and I don't really want to blow £45 plus customs on something thats not going to work properly.
I've just literally bought one myself from the States ($70), tired of detuning too & don't need (want) a five-string. A lot of people rave about them - plus they're very rarely seen on secondhand market. Can let you know if it works or not when I've tried it out....
  24. An Indie http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/INDIE-RICKENBACKER-C...1QQcmdZViewItem Might get pulled....
  25.
No ideas, anyone?
Some places will pay (which is nice), majority wont at the stage you're at the moment. You have to start doing gigs regularly to build up a following. Though not too many gigs otherwise people will get bored. The theory is eventually you'll work your way up the bill bring in more punters/friends etc, & then start to (hopefully) get a bit of dosh. Band I'm in, do it because we enjoy it - when it stops being fun we'll all do something else. We get a bit of money for some & nothing for others. None of the paid gigs we get, are ever going to enable me to pack in my dayjob Myspace (unfortunately) does help, along with an uploaded representative demo. Lastly, try hussling for gigs outskirts Bristol & in SW - Radstock,Wells,Bath, Swindon,Burnham etc can be great places to play Some good links http://www.ourband.net/new_asp/venue_select_county.asp http://www.bbc.co.uk/somerset/entertainmen...o_z_index.shtml http://www.bristolbands.com/venues.php Good luck
