was it one of these
Should imagine it was very similar to this one I built while ago: http://aronnelson.com/gallery/v/DRAGONFLY-...ZZ_001.jpg.html Cracking classic fuzz & a piece of p*ss to make, especially if you follow step-by-step instructions below: http://aronnelson.com/gallery/v/DRAGONFLY-...lbum20/album21/ May be better than a Zvex(?) - Dunno
 2.
I looked at the schematics and it looks like it uses a combination of pickup impedance + internal capacitor to cut some of the higher frequencies. I theory a resistor in series should help. I would use a trimpot inside the unit with an active/passive switch that remove the trimpot from the circuit. [codebox] \ ------------o o---- | | | -------------+---> [OUT] | | | v [IN]>-----+--\/\/\/\/- 1M [/codebox]
That's a good idea Max. Though I don't use any active basses myself, so fortunately don't have that issue. Should say I've got few home made fuzz pedals already, including one knob colorsound clone, Univox squarewave,Red llama.....They all sound good to me. It's just I'm intrigued by Wooly Mammoth, probably due to exhorbitant price, & the fact there's hardly anything in it! Some good reviews on Harmony...Don't believe the hype(?) Guess I'll find out for myself without shelling out £150
 3. From the replies, I gather not too many people keen on the Wooly Mammoth(?) It's not cheap to buy, though I reckon I can at least build it for less than a tenner. Guess I'll find out myself....
 4. Hi all, Has anybody had any experience of a Wooly Mammoth? Found schematic for it , & I'm considering building one over Christmas period. Would be grateful for any comments/opinions before I go down road of converting schematic to veroboard layout. Many thanks
 5.
I think someone did nominate him for Big New Prinz. What about Middle Class Revolt - not their most celebrated album but the bass playing throughout (Behind the Counter! M5! Junk Man!) is solider than a solid thing. Sorry, fresh out of similes today.
Love the sound he got - Musicman/Fender & Ampeg with pick. 'Bombast' from This Nation's Saving Grace another good one.
 6.
The Fall Though they sounded better when they just had the one S. Hanley.
Now there's a bassist - good call! Surely one for the underrated thread?
 7.
Bassassin - I am the worst ebayer in the world. Having had the winning bid on your Jazz copy for three days I forgot to look at it yesterday. Grrr. You'd have made a couple of quid more as well if I'd had a brain.
There was(is) another Franconia Jazz on ebay. Albeit not as nice as one Jon was selling, needs a bit of tlc....
 8.
aaarrrggghhh - you got it! I saw it, went for it, missed it I love FAL stuff so if you find yourself not using it then I'll take it off your hands My FAL gear: Merlin 50 combo C-40 T combo PA150 head I've been using the PA150 as a bass head for a while - sound sweet using a tube pre-amp (art tube mp / behringer mic200). The Merlin is the guitar combo I always use (in favour of a Marshall and other combo I have) even though the 12" driver is very near death. Never had the joy of using the FAL valve stuff though
I'm sure I saw another Super 100 at £0.99, but it was up in Newcastle (I think) - too far for a pickup for me. Guitarist in our band has a lovely old valve FAL 2x12 combo too. So now we're matching! Not much on the net about FAL. The only thing I know is that they were made in Leeds by Fusturistic Aids Ltd!
 9.
Not that it's the most vibrant of music scenes (in the slightest) but it's a gig We work with Swindon Town FC putting on Thursday night gigs in their Legend's Lounge and also with Riff's Bar (Fri/Sat nights). Mainly looking for original stuff (genre not important and we're happy to cover reasonable travelling costs) for Thurs and Fri nights and covers/tributes for Sat night (obviously we'll pay but we'd be looking for your lowest price possible for a first gig and then regular rates & repeat bookings depending on how the night goes) So, if you're interested send details, mp3s, myspace links, etc etc to me personally: darren.coleman{at}gmail{dot}com
Very interested, sent you an email. Cheers
 10.
Guys - I was going to just get as many people as possible to meet up for a few pints in Bristol when I get down there (will be there permanently from 30th November and most weekends from Friday onwards). Don't worry about getting all gear and so on sorted until a basschat bash is due; best off just meeting up for a brew and talking about the gear we'll all bring to the next bash
Hi G-Bitch Hope you're move down here went OK & according to plan. Are we all still up for a few bevvies sometime, before end of the year? Cheers
 11.
It's a good job we don't all think like you. Jaco would never have torn the frets from his jazz bass, Larry graham might never have put thumb to string, John Entwistle would have left his treble control set flat etc. Most people probably don't, that's personal taste, but an awful lot of people do, there wouldn't be this sort of thing going on otherwise <a href="http://www.unpronounceable.com/solobassnight/" target="_blank">http://www.unpronounceable.com/solobassnight/</a> As for embarrasing and uncool, how can being a talented musician be embarrasing and uncool, I'd rather listen to someone talented trying something different, than a mediocre bass player playing something that's been done by thousands of other people thousands of times, now that is boring. Just my opinion of course.
Ox,Jaco,Graham are seminal.......I'm sure Jean,Jeff, Dave are all virtuosos in their own right....but come on!?
 12.
I recently watched some Bass solo vid's on Youtube and I was suprised by how much they did NOT interest me.I feel like a traitor to bass players everywhere.I found I did'nt get off on extra fast shredding,or two hand taps.Slap by Wooten, sorry, not for me.I'm more impressed by a good groove or run in a song.I know that I will get some flak for this but I feel its time to come clean;to me bass is supportive.
I couldn't agree more with you too -_- Would be interesting to see a poll on which camp, most bassists sit; Jaco or Macca, Mani or Flea.....etc?
 13.
I'd like to have a Rick-alike bass that had all the looks of the original, but with the fake bridge pickup surround that looked like the real thing from a distance, but was actually flat, like a chrome scratchplate, so you could rest your thumb on the pickup unhindered. maybe a photo of the real thing under a piece of perspex to go round the pickup, and a similar thing to go round a conventional bridge too...
Hi, Do you mean something like this? http://www.pickguardian.com/pickguardian/R...dgePUPlate.html Cheaper alternative is what I did here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...;hl=rickenfaker
 14. Hello all, Just bought a FAL Super 100 PA amp off Ebay - £7! Couldn't resist bargain, especially as it's a valve amp. Though, I'm not sure if it will sound any good - guess I'll find out... Has anybody ever tried using a PA for bass with any success, & does anybody know anything about FAL? Cheers

 16.
To play that, you need to be either as camp as a row of tents or so macho that no one dares comment. I wouldn't recommend trying both at the same time ...
Butch & Camp? A nasty Kay - sorry got to keep this thread alive! 17.
Didn't New Order play with two bassists at times? Hooky... and someone to hold down the low end? Hooky is also a member of the Freebass project: himself, Andy Rourke (The Smiths) and Mani (Stone Roses & Primal Scream). According to this interview, they're looking for a vocalist - someone who can sing over three bassists.
Both his other solo efforts; Revenge & Monaco also featured two bassists. Second bass player handling all low end (which is sequenced in New Order stuff) while he does the high/melodic bits over the top. I also think he has problems, singing & playing at the same time
 18.
I think we should all bid on it and get it upto about £10,000 he will think christmas has come early......
I agree. Was considering (still am) whacking an unfeasible amount on this. Then requesting local collection/payment....tw*t! What are Ebay going to do?
 19.
£50 for a hutch?!! Is it HD ready?
I can build it a nice new hutch made from pastry!
 20. Tidy looking Franconia Jazz copy http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Jazz-copy-bass-Japan...1QQcmdZViewItem And a Westbury original http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WESTBURY-BASS-GUITAR...1QQcmdZViewItem
 21.
I did the second set with a bucket at my feet. *high five!*
Respect is due - a true pro!
 22.
And they seriously don't come weirder than this - an Electra X-610 Outlaw, with MPC modular circuitry. I have never, ever seen one of these on Ebay before, it's likely a personal import, since Electra wasn't sold in the UK. Current high bidder is a poster on here - no, it's not me! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=170172042605 J.
That Elektra is possibly the coolest looking bass I've seen in a while!
 23.
Oops. It was being discussed on the RickResource board last night - J.
They're bonkers that lot, aren't they?!
 24.
And a Yamaki P-alike: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=150186275536 Terrible pics & description, but it's not a brand you see too often, so wotever. J.
I'm quite interested in the Yamaki - was wondering; is anybody else on here going to go for it?
 25. And the T-bird copy Nick posted presumably got pulled for having an unambiguous listing - so now it's relisted so nobody has a fecking clue what it is. Except us lot, of course: <a href="http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=270188516192" target="_blank">http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=270188516192</a> That's actually quite interesting. The serial number's consistent with Fujigen Gakki's numbering - which would make it a '77. However, I've no idea what it might be - never seen a factory fretless before, and the bridge & pickups - plus the pickup positioning - are quite different to the Fujigen T-Birds I've seen. Prog behemoth or what? Jon.
The T-Bird has been knocking around for quite a while in my local free ads paper. Seller's been after £300. Would be interested myself if it was cheaper & fretted - unfortunately have no need for a fretless. Nice looking bass though, & as you say 'interesting'
