1.
Hands up, who's stayed the night in the room where Ian Curtis hanged himself?
Can't lay claim to that unknown pleasure, but I did at one point, live a few doors down from the house on Barton Street.
 2.
If it wasn't for Ian Curtis would we even be having this conversation?
Think we probably would. New Order acheived most of their commercial success off their own backs, regardless of Curtis' suicide.
 3. I saw this, it was an improvised collaboration @ a Tony Wilson tribute thing in Manchester, with Kevin Hewick who was actually at one point was primed to take over from Ian Curtis after his untimely end. Like most of Hooky's recent musical activites, for want of a better word; it's disappointing. Grew up on Joy Division & New Order, big inspiration for me at the time, so this & his other outings are a bit of a shame for me. At least it's not quite as cringeworthy as his attempts at DJing.
 4.
This thread is getting really boring now.
+1 It started off as a good fun thread with people talking about their new bargain bass; how it plays, what it sounds like, what they might do to mod it , personalise it etc... quite innocuos really, as per the title 'Sue Ryder Bass Arrived' Just a pity it got derailed by a bored troll.
 5. First Bass Owned: 70's Fender Musicmaster 'Go To' Bass: '82 Tokai Hardpuncher (rounds) 'Your' Bass: Fender CIJ '62 RI Precision (flats)
 6. Here's another. Strange looking Hutchins 4 + 6 string doubleneck. Quite low BIN
 7.
Oi!!! That's exactly like mine!!!! Did you nick it? The pickguard is more creamy than it comes out in the pic. G.
No, I whacked a cream pearlescent scratchplate on it, fancied a change from white.
 8.
Quick heads-up for a nice-looking Matsumoku-built Kimbara Jazz copy, rosewood board/pearl blocks, running out at 8.30 pm tonight. Currently £87 and hasn't had much attention, had my eye on this but unforseen circumstances mean I'm out! Could well be a bargain, & Kimbara Jazzers already have the BC Seal Of Approval. J.
Was tempted to that myself too. It has the normal standard Jazz pickup routing, whereas mine hasn't - will be a cracking bass, with some decent pickups dropped in it.
 9. That is gorgeous. Nicely photographed - vase of flowers is a nice touch too.
 10.
Are you suggesting that I am trolling, or that JTUK is trolling?
Not you, but I've retracted (edited) that comment, as not to cause offence.
 11.
....I think that people on here are simply trying to point out that, unless you've tried the bass, you aren't entitled to a comprehensive/realistic opinion based on what your assumptions of the bass are and I would have to agree. Unless you've actually had one in your hand and played it, how could you ever know what it's like?
Been following this thread for a while... I think everyone of JTUK's points raised concerning this bass, which are not really based on any factual information, have been answered by persons who have had actual experience of the instrument, along with working knowledge on everything from manufacturing processes, quality control, overseas sourcing, musical instrument retail etc... Therefore his argument cannot really be considered to be valid anymore can it? *Edited - not to cause offence
 12. Quite happy with mine. Gigged it a few times now, so its more than paid for itself. I'm not a particularly lighthanded player, but the bass has held up with no issues & not crapped out on me. I'm not kidding myself its in the same league as my CIJ Fender or my favourite old Tokai, but it's certainly no worse than a lot of other P-Bass types I've played at double or more the price. For me, it's filled a need I had for a bass to do rock gigs, jam nights etc particularly in less than salubrious venues. I've also now got a bass in a shade of blue that matches one my suits I have been hankering to wear for some time.
 13.
you sure they're 803's? they have a different pin out. Great valves non the less though, worth a small fortune if you have some of the originals!
According to Watford Valves they are : Harma STR ECC83
 14. Have a bump. I've got one of these, also in red, but with a tort scratchplate a la budget Pino - think mine is a 2004. If its anything like mine, whoever buys it wont be disappointed. Lovely neck to play.
 15.
I've spent some time looking at various possibilities for a pickup replacement for a P-bass copy (no price for guessing the brand ) I am looking for something with good midrange and which will enhance the "growl". I will probably use my trusty D'Addario XL170 roundwounds 45-65-80-100 that I use on the OLP and MM Stingray with great results. I'm at the moment considering these three pickups: Wizard Thumper - great reviews on the pickup and the company. DiMarzio DP122 - good reviews, good samples on Youtube (for what they're worth). I'm leaning toward this one. Pity teh polepieces are black, I'd prefer teh usual silver ones but sound is more important. Seymour Duncan SBP-3 - good reviews, good samples on Youtube too... but hard to judge. I would welcome any comments, experiences etc about these pickups, or any other alternatives you think I should consider.
I like the Seymour Duncan SPB-1 myself. It's just a decent Precision pickup - nothing special, but punchy & growly enough when needed for me. Would like to try Wizard Trad at some point in the future. If you're after a lot of mids the SPB-2 'Hot' is better than SPB-3, which can sound quite scooped. However, regarding the pickup on the Sue Ryder bass, just wondering why do you want to change it? Fairly picky myself, when it comes to P-Bass pickups & as a matter of course always upgrade them to SPB-1's , but TBH found the stock pickup in the Ryder bass to be surprisingly good. Decided to keep it installed. Changing the pots & putting a PIO cap in it though... Just curious(?)
 16. Nice job of 'Miss You' done here, if thats any help
 17.
A friend of mine has an Alembic F1-X preamp. I remember spending a few hours with him one day experimenting with different valves. There was a noticeable difference between them. I just spoke to him and he thinks he settled on a Telefunken valve (great name !), He's going to take the top off and have a look see what sort.
Telefunken ECC803S(?) I've got a pair of Harma (cryo'd) made Telefunken ECC803S clones in my V-Type preamp. Love the tone, almost bell-like.
 18.
I moved onto a Micro Q-tron after being a bit disappointed with my DOD FX25, loved the sound, but wanted to tame the volume boost and have a blend control, so I sold it and bought an old 24v Q-tron+, had the option to blend, but still a noticeable volume boost when engaged. I did the master volume control mod, and now I love it.
+1 Despite being a really funky filter, I actually think its not that useable as an effect without the volume control mod, or at least with a limiter pedal after it. Well worth getting the mod done.
It was a gas job from Maplins - I left it on for about 5 minutes and the plastic housing melted. Bastard cost about £40 too! Dan PS THIS ONE
Get yourself a decent Weller soldering iron, not too high wattage, 15-25w is OK, and if you can find it, the proper lead solder.
 20. Hi Liam, I've got a Qtron & a Boomstick Bottom Feeder. Give us a shout if you want to borrow them, try them out etc... Cheers

 23. You'll regret selling that bass Celso!
 24. Had same set of d'Addario 'Chromes' flats on my Tokai for over five years. Think it took two years for them to play in! A knackered '62 Precision recently that I came across recently which unsuccessfully tried to buy, had according to its owner the same Rotosounds on it since 1971. They actually had a nice tone.
 25. Hi all, I playing with Bristol R'n'B legends Hotdog Jackson @ Kings Arms, Monmouth Place, Bath this Saturday.
