1. To give you a bit of insight into whats popular.... I work for EV/Dynacord here in the UK. I'd say at least 75% of the sales we have are for Active/Powered speakers. Passive generally is still used for bigger set ups (club systems/small tour type system) but we are seeing more and more more powerful boxes in the Active market. With regards to the above posts.... Active speakers today weigh little more than their passive twins... You may see more faulty units around than Passive as there are more things to go wrong in an active cabinet..... you see plenty of of faulty amplifiers up for sale if you look. There is little difference between sound quality between the two types as most use the same components... Generally with Passive systems there are other things that cause a difference in sound... be that the type of cable used between the amp and cab, the type of amplifier and gain staging between all these different stages.
2. If you've ever seen Clapton live he rarely says anything..... and looks proper miserable at the same time
3.
There is also the added cheesiness of if you do decide to say something witty you can be sure your drummer will follow it with a quck drum roll and cymbal crash
You've seen my band then.....
4.
I bet you guys are as funky as a wet sock
I may use that in future PR ;o)
5. We surveyed a lot (about 80 clients) of our wedding/function gigs last year (after the event obviously) and this was one of the questions on the survey. Almost every response to this question was that interaction between the band and audience was desirable and recieved with positive response. I think if you are playing original music you would have a different stance on this... maybe the interaction would be to tell the audience a little about the songs you are performing
6. Not sure if this is a function gig or not but whenever we quote for gigs in sports halls we always get a drape hire contractor in.... adds a bit to the cost but makes the event so much more enjoyable for the guest.
7. Definitely not...... really you're only gonna need the vocals in the monitor.... unless you have a keys player or some backing tracks running which you may need to hear for time reference. A good lead vocal mix in the monitor should be your main concern.... if you are the singer and you are struggling to hear yourself... imagine what it's gonna sound like out FOH.
8. I believe Norm was playing in Chelmsford last night with Wilko.....
9. Most pubs/Clubs in this area Essex/East London are pretty booked through to end of 2015 now
10. Just re-assembling my studio at the mo..... here's the current state. Will change again soon as building a drum booth and a Vocal booth.
11.
Thanks for all your replies people. Very helpful! I'll check out all the links over the next few days. Hopefully something will be suitable. As for budget, I'm willing to pay what I would think is a good rate. But as example, one 4 piece band quoted me £3000, to which I said it is too much for what we would have got.
We're not cheap but that seems a bit wide of the mark...... Who was the band that quoted that?
12. We are a bit more genre specific but Weddings and Functions is all we do. www.hotsaucedisco.com or https://www.facebook...soulcorporation Jay
13. I've got 2 x 328's (not xd version) for the studio that are linked together..... great desks.... allows me to run 32 channels of ADAT through Motu interfaces.... these desks, considering how old they are now, still cut it.
14. We use GDS Lightware.... expensive but it's built to last. IP Rated so you can use them outdoors. Wireless DMX control if needed and a lot of hire companies have stock which means for the bigger events we can hire in more if needed and still look uniform.
15. Just watched it...... usual BBC audio playback with live vocals over the top.
16. I missed it.... was it live or were they miming?
17. Check out his band PBUnderground.... they are proper.... seen them a few times now and they are fantastic live!
18.
Well, I think there's some skill in doing it well, but a lot of people don't bother to be good at it and are basically no better than putting an iPod on shuffle, and they are usually the ones who need to let everyone know they are a DJ.
Exactly like musicians in that respect......
19.
Ok, I had a brief whip through the thread and no-one seems to have mentioned the Line 6 Stagesource and Stagescape systems yet. I don't know very much about PA systems but being a delighted Line 6 user I thought I would chime in. This new Line 6 PA system seems to be getting very good reviews in terms of sound quality, versatility and portability. I'm pretty sure that putting a PA BEHIND the band is a recipe for disaster though. I may be wrong but perhaps the graphical Stagescape mixing solution would help you as it makes it possible to mix effectively even if you are like me and don't know much about setting a PA up properly, which requires sound and acoustic engineering knowledge and experience.
I had a good play with the Line 6 at the PLASA Shoot out..... it was ok at lower levels as was the new Mackie SRM rang but when it was pushed it broke up pretty quick..... shame as it's a great idea if not a little toy like.
20. I'm really intruiged to hear the rest of the album.....
