4. Yeah it's closed now..... Products are now sold via distribution channels.
 5. Lots of changes..... Some good info here - http://www.prosoundnetwork.com/article/peavey-begins-global-restructuring/18397
 6. Too many bands playing the same music in the same venues..... It's boring as hell in Essex. Oh look another Classic Rock/indie band..... I wonder if they'll be playing Zombie/SOF/Dakota/Highway to Hell...... I think there are too many bands not trying to be anything different any more.
 7. Lots to go at... my fave Stevie song is still 'I wish' even though most bands muder it. We've just added 'As if you read my mind' to our set.... http://youtu.be/SyOLZ3YMd8g
 8.
Its in a small seated venue in basildon
Towngate Theatre by chance?
 9. For me it took me longer than usual to learn this song..... Especially the bass break at around 3:00 http://youtu.be/FOx81aG-EN4
 10. These guys seem to be ok https://www.facebook.com/pages/Freak-Out-Disco-Band/178552435527170?fref=ts
 11. There are function bands and there are function bands. If you are looking at the serious end of the market, then stop thinking like a band and start thinking like a service provider. You are selling a brand that people want to buy into. There are a million bands out there offering the same old thing. You need to be different, not necessarily in what you perform, but in what you offer. Service is key
 12. Not true line away those systems but work on a similar principle.... You would get no benefit using line array in a pub as the place would be far too small. You need a decent size venue to use correctly. Think Theatre size! Were currently using a Dynacord VA-array system which works very well.
 13.
And yet, they do offer quite significant discounts to bulk purchasers. But the idea behind quantity discounts is to allow the retailer to make more money on the product, not to sell it cheaper. It incentivises higher order numbers.
The problem currently thats not what happens. The extra margin goes out the window as to compete with the online pricing... it's an ever downward spiral.
 14.
Slight pedantry, maybe, but this is not necessarily true. A bulk buy will only be potentially cheaper if the manufacturer has, in turn, an economy of scale. Some industries do not have this (making labour-intensive short-run items that do not have a fixed set-up time, for instance...). Whilst mainly true, then, one cannot always extrapolate and get a quantity discount. Just sayin'.
This is True.... Dealerships will have different levels of discount dependant on what markers you hit. Quite a lot of the manufacturers will have a discount structure that may involve extra discount for quantity but this is is normally on realistic quantities as opposed to say being 10 pcs or 100 pcs. More like 1-4pcs 5-10 pcs 10+ pcs. It's not in the manufacturers favour to offer massive discounts for quantity.... it only ends up de-valueing the marketplace for them and their customer base.
 15. The next single looks killer too - http://youtu.be/b0kl0pr0k24
 16.
Absolutely that's true, but I guess those retailers that have both online and high street presence tend to also be large, and hence benefit from the supplier benefits and cashflow certainties that I mentioned. As I said, I work for an internet retailer which is less profitable than high street retailers that also have an online presence. This illustrates my point perfectly: online only does not immediately equate to lower cost base and therefore price competitiveness.
If you were to take a like for like by size I would hedge the Online only company would have a much lower cost base
 17. M-Bass-M Yes you are correct to an extent. Though many Music retailers will be facing the same costs as you mention as the majority do have online presence, shipping costs etc.... just maybe not to the same extent. The main crux here is online visible pricing rather which is the same issue for both online and B&M retailers......
 18.
I'm in discussions right now with a major manufacturer who has made it very clear there is a price point that a retailer can never go below or supply will dry up. All conversations are on the phone rather than in writing.
Yes this happens but it is still illegal. Some distribution/manufacturers are more lenient when it comes to what you can and can't discuss with the retailers as to pricing.... others will tell you that it is strictly forbidden to discuss price points.
 19.
They can simply refuse to supply in the future though and give other reasons than discounting as to why they won't sell to the retailer any more. I've seen lots of examples of this and there are definitely ways around things. The 'smart' thing to do is not to put the refusal to supply because of discounting in writing. Thomann is a perfect example. Every now and then products disappear completely from their stock list. There's a general assumption that this is because the manufacturer won't sell to them at heavily discounted prices but in some cases the manufacturer won't sell to them because they have the potential to wreck the pricing market for the manufacturer. I'm in discussions right now with a major manufacturer who has made it very clear there is a price point that a retailer can never go below or supply will dry up. All conversations are on the phone rather than in writing.
This is a way around it.... but I guess it depends on the manufacturer and..... some can easily do this, others cannot. It's also noted that the 'big online german store' will de-list a manufacturers product from it's site if there is no margin to be made over a period of time.....
 20. Anything between 173.8 and 175 is fine.... they are just the usual fix points... varies on manufacturer
 21.
As explained - Suppliers only like companies selling their products cheap if they're high-volume sales (i.e. online).
This isn't true...... Suppliers cannot dictate pricing by law so they have no choice. If the re-seller decides they want to make a small margin or even sell at a loss they can and the supplier can have no say in that.

 23.
I have an ancient (circa 2000) Sure wireless system that uses 174.5 MHz is this still legal to use? AFAICS it is but information on this frequency is hard to come by and difficult to see if it is the most up to date. Can anyone give me a 100% definite yes or no on this? Thanks.
Yes still legal. De-reg frequencies in UK below for VHF - 173.800 174.000 174.200 174.400 174.600 174.800 175.000

I never once called a business greedy but if the cap fits huh? And in terms of the argument, surely or given the times we live in, shops must find a way of reducing the price? £869 against £1067 (Mike Dirnt bass) is a huge difference. Considering most shops have an on-line presence surely same rules apply as to the likes of SoundsLive who sell it at the lower price? I have bought a lot from SL and have to say their service is first class imo. I don't want to see shops disappear but can't help think they are bringing it upon themselves.
It's race to the bottom for a lot of stores.... The big EU online stores are dictating street pricing. Customers go there because they are cheap. UK Bricks and Mortar stores try to compete with that pricing, make less margin, have less to re-invest into the company. If stores try to keep pricing higher they lose custom because majority of customers do not value paying a bit more for a Bricks and Mortar store. They just want to pay less. It's a whole headache for the industry..... stores advertising lower and lower prices is a pain for everyone involved except for the punters
