1.
Dont suppose you'd know how it compares to the a designs reddi or tab v71 by any chance?? Cheers Pete
The harsh reality is that I don't know. I realise that I'm not selling it well based on your Q, but there is so much rubbish spoken on the WWW using words like "killer tone" etc that I am trying to avoid getting dragged into the hyperbole. I had a look at both the units you mentioned. The review on the REDDI seemed to point towards a sound character which helps everything sit very well in a mix with no further treatment. This is more about providing a full range sound with a sublte sheen to it. The Tab v71 looks to be modelled on Telefunken kit which is very sought after as well. The Summit sounds as nice as my Demeter, but the Demeter has a parametric on it which I need for a Double Bass with a boomy Bb. If it was not for needing EQ then I would keep it and not have to lug a 19" rack around. I'm sure there must be forums around which would be able to give you more informed information.
2. Sorry, should have said that listings don't go live till 6pm on the 16th (today by now! I should be in bed)

4. "Gosh, do I still have this?" bump. This is now on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=290261001504 Sorry, should have said that listings don't go live till 6pm on the 16th (today by now! 6.
That's some tight string spacing right there. Do you think it was always a 5-string?
New and made in China so I guess it has always been 5.

8. Remember to experiment with quarter tones on long held notes, it sets the whole orchestra out of tune and is quite difficult to track down. Also organise the section to get faster or slower if you have any repeated pizz sections. Again this drives everyone but is quite difficult to spot if done well. Happy days
9. Much as I love the IP112, walking to a practice with one would not be on my list of things to do unless I had a trolley. Neo light it is not I don't think the Demeter is the Fender design, but then I do not actually know. Did I mention that it sounds very fine?
10. The IP112 is a thing of wonder. It has shown up a resonant wolf note in my Double Bass that had sort of been there before, but is there for shure now. It is small and loud with good extension all the way down. I'm guessing that it is a combination of the Demeter and the Berg which is giving me this extension, because it was not there all the way up with anything but the Demeter - I have not actually listened for LF extension with any of the other pre-amps I was messing with so cannot make a definitive statement for that one. I am just wondering whether I should swap the Berg HT115 I have running underneath the IP to a cab that the IP is actually voiced to drive. The only way to know would be to A/B both. The chances of that happening round here are....................zero.
11. MOJO!
12. Be aware that the pick up size on Mexican Jazz basses are not always standard neck and bridge jazz sizes.
13. To continue the slowest review ever, it seems that the Demeter is making things more balanced across the board than anything else I have tried. My double bass has equal heft and thud (sorry, review cliche terms there, but they serve a purpose) all the way from the bottom to the top. On other pre-amps it tends to get progressively thinner once I get to E on the D string and continue up. With the Demeter it carries on with the same authority all the way up. With bass guitars which have in the past seemed a bit light once I get onto the B string, the Demeter makes each note speak with a more equal authority. Does it have little people inside changing the gain for each note I play? I guess not, but I am liking the consistency which makes basses which were previously being left alone due to uneven response (B string being weaker than the rest, a perceivable change in tone when changing the fat string) seem to be more complete instruments. I do realise that this sounds like internet review hyperbole but FOR ME (and ymmv) it is opening doors to forgetting about my signal chain.
14.
Alberta health care is going to be free from January. No one wanna buy some machinery and make their own basses??!!
I would, but I cannot afford to buy your woodworking skills as well.
15.
Try contacting either Jon Shuker in Sheffield, Status-Graphite in Essex or Bernie Goodfellow at GB Guitars. All decent luthiers and you'll be entirely happy with the results.
Thanks for that, and I'm sure the results would be fabulous, but I am not convinced they could match Ian's fabulous prices http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=25715&hl=
16. .....till it's gone. Some time ago on here I bought a Lak JO5 neck on here for a good price - basically I could not stop myself, you know how it is. I now of course need the rest of the bass to go with it. I became aware that Chopthebass would make a Jazz body and route it for my hardware. I put this info into my memory banks for when the time comes to build the next bass I do not need. It now transpires that Mr Chopthebass is not actually sitting waiting for my phone call so that he can finally build me a body, but is off to Canada and does not have the time to do the work I need. I am entirely cool with that, but now I need someone else who will do the same work. All I want is a plain ash body which will be give a dose of oil and a decent tort pickguard by me. It will need to be routed for a wider 5 string neck and 5 string pick ups. Who out there will create one for me? Mr chopthebass cannot be the only one in the world doing this kind of thing.
17. Whatever it is (and let's face it, in this economic climate you can get anything for that kind of budget 2nd hand) make sure it is shielded properly. There is nothing like a theater to show up a bass that is unshielded if it has anything active on-board.
18. I have an old Jazz. I lent it to a student. It now seems to have a tough to shift layer of grime on it and the neck, which was down to bare wood many years ago feels dry What do I use to clean it? The paint is nitro and is trashed beyond, but I could really do without the grime aspect. I have tried Dunlop 65 guitar polish because I had some lying around but it does not seem to have done the trick. I am aware that lending it out was risky at best. TIA

20. Bump for price drop.
21. You can get a PC editor which works through midi with your Gt-6B. Much easier. Lots of fun. PM me and I will send it to you if you have justsendit.com compatability.

23. Chevin A500. They go between £200 - £300 on Ebay. They will do 700W into 8 ohms bridged and are light as a feather.
