1.
Not to be rude, but if you've not used either service why offer an uninformed opinion? It's quite clearly set out here: http://pages.ebay.co...nts-policy.html "eBay requires all sellers listing on eBay.co.uk to offer payments through PayPal (with some limited exceptions). In most cases, other payment options may be offered as well."
Fair enough, but why not offer an opinion too? I am learning from this discussion as well you know. I still find it unbelievable that PayPoop would be legally able to monopolise all financial transactions by the way. Rudeness aside, this condition would be another reason for me to never use either service. Thank you for the information.
 2.
I did put "all" originally before I changed it. I love Ms Kaye for other reasons, not Motown.....
Forgiven. I love her work on all of those TV detective shows.
 3.
Just auditioned for, and joined, a band that originally formed in the late 1960s, playing my headless Sei Flamboyant 5. They didn't have a problem with it. Oh, and Rhino Edwards plays a Status Streamline with Quo.
Come to think of it, I was in the same situation with my headless Steiny in a fifties and sixties cover band. They all loved it. I didn't follow through with their offer however so it wasn't "tested" in the field, so to speak.
 4.
I want a Harris!
A Rolf Harris vinyl would need enormous groping hands though wouldn't it?
 5.
Does anyone have a simple Ready Reckoner or look-up table that explains what all these bizarre-sounding genres actually mean? The great misfortune in my life is that I had the nerve to be born before 1990.
Me too. I wouldn't worry though. Songs that belong in more than one musical style (I hate using the word "genre") tend to get placed in one of them only. Now that it is trendy to redo old songs in alternative musical styles the whole "genre" thing becomes redundant anyway. I think the only folk who find a real use for genre names are filing clerks or those who like to label their shelves. It's a bit too anally retentive for me to waste my time with and I especially hate the idea of missing out on a really good tune just because it wasn't filed in a genre I associate myself with.
 6.
I believe that if you list something on eBay for sale you are obliged to use PayPal as a payment method, even if you've put cash on collection in the listing - so your buyer can still pay by PP even if you don't want them to. Of course, there's nothing to stop you agreeing cash on collection , but you can't insist.
Not using either service I don't know but I have difficulty believing that.
 7.
Hey folks. Whats your opinion on this one? My favourite Bass to gig with is undoubtedly my sonic blue Yamaha Attitude ltd3. Love everything about it. Been told that the Prog band I'm in requires a more 'traditional' looking Bass, a Fender basically. No problem, I have suitable looking Basses I can use, but none of them feel as 'right' to me as the Yamaha. I'm pretty pragmatic about it and will do what's necessary, I'm not the 'main' guy in the band, and I enjoy the music so if the look is that important, then so be it. But what would YOU do?
I think you've already suggested. Serve the band if you have an "appropriate" axe.
 8.
This put an end to GAS, well for now anyway.
Good old Andy. Nice body shape. Er... the guitar that is heeheehee.
 9.
Latin name gaylordus acquisitivus.
Hahahahahahaha
 10.
Only because I've had to take the hit on PayPal fees! I gave them the option of either.
Fair point. I just wondered if you had the opportunity to insist on cash on collection or whether the arrangement for collection by the parents was made after the purchase went through.
 11.
I've just sold a bass which was collection only. The guy is getting his parents to collect it from me. He paid by PayPal. I'm not letting it go until I've seen and photographed their ID and taken a picture of them with the bass out of its case. Call me paranoid but that seems to me to be the best precautions against a chargeback i can take.
In hindsight of this post - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/300931-couriers-whos-responsible/page__view__findpost__p__3242368, do you think you'd have felt better if you'd arranged for the parents to pay on collection? Just curious.
 12.
Paul McCartney probably got me into bass, but once I realised it was one guy playing most of the Motown hits I was loving, I became a massive fan of James Jamerson.
Oo. Controversial.
 13.
I want a semi hollow really badly. I doubt that will be the end though. I also want a decent Jazz bass. The only cure is money,
I disagree. If money was no object and every bass was available to buy you'd end up with more basses than you could possibly hope to play. In fact you'd become one of those queer creatures - a collector.
 14. Wikipedia says of Tetsu Yamauchi; "He retired from the music industry in the mid 1990s and moved to the countryside with his family to live a quiet life, refusing to speak to anyone from the press. He considers it juvenile and vain for people his age to still be performing rock and roll, and refused invitations to take part in a Faces reunion." Born in 1946, he would have been 49 in 1995... Maybe I shouldn't even try to start at my age (54). On the other hand and given his credentials, I can understand why someone would say that. Good luck with the search for notation. Like yourself, I often find the bass parts are lost in the older recordings. I found this on BC; http://basschat.co.uk/topic/176068-andy-frasers-free-basslines/page__view__findpost__p__1651098 Following the link in that post resulted in an error message but the site owner's contact details are available if that's of any help. Let us know if you get anywhere with it please?
 15. Plus one for Maccer. I used to love hearing his basslines on jukeboxes because it was the only place as a child where I could get a decent amount of bass. Record players, radios and tellies were crap. I didn't get to go to cafés very often and would have to fill in the basslines with my imagination when listening to the same tunes at home.
 16. This is a trick question. The Greek is quite right. There is no cure for the GAS. Ask any hi-fi buff from the seventies. Ask any hi-def buff from this era. You upgrade one piece of your system thinking it is the last piece in your puzzle and it exposes another (perceived) weak spot. This is a trap that enthusiasts fall into quite often, the upgrade cycle. It isn't long before you replace every bit of what you started out with and find you are still trying to scratch that "itch". It doesn't matter if you are into music, cars or computers; if you are that enthusiastic, you will never be satisfied. I used to be like that until I realised I was missing the point - the music not the equipment I was playing it on. Now if I could get an affordable Warwick GPS Corvette 5 FL Bubinga, my life would be complete. Hahahahahahahaha! Yeah right.
 17. Not the sort of vinyl I was expecting to read about. Good luck otherwise. Heeheehee
 18. Was it in any way detrimental to the performance? I ask because you mention everyone hitting the dance floor. Sounds like it might have been a good thing for the punters.
 19.
LaBella do a copper tapewound set. Got them on my Thumb. They did 'oxidise' a bit at the nut end though so I now have a copper/green effect
Verdigris? Wow. I bet hipsters are queueing up to order this as an "instant" patina/relic effect. Do you get admiring glances from dodgy looking men with beards?
 20.
Stop Making Sense is a classic. I remember seeing it at our local 'art-house' cinema (the Phoenix in Finchley Central) just after it was released and within 20 minutes everybody was up bopping in the aisles. Re the lovely Tina, I'd say she was just a bit highly strung - or maybe just high.
We were the same. It was showing at the cinema at the top of O'Connel Street in Dublin for a long time.
 21.
Hi Only just caught up with the thread. I'll probably be taking Neil (Len_Derby) and between us we'll have a decent number of basses but there still should be a seat left if Dave_the_bass can't make it
Cheers Andy. We'll see what's happening nearer the time.
 22. Don't worry. Someone will spell it out for you presently.
 23.
Come on then, I'm still waiting for your point... if you know it all then do tell
Point made. You wont have a leg to stand on in any court if you call money exchanged in a sale a gift. Sorry I had to spell it out again. Now it's your turn to calm down I think.
 24.
Also a lot of landlords will be filling their 2017 diaries right now, so don't hang about and get out there pedaling
Are you trying to give me more GAS?
 25.
Calm down buddy. Yes it's a sale and the PayPal gift option is just one way to transfer funds. Absolutely nothing to do with being clever and NO PayPal payment option has anything to do with HMRC. What was you point again?
Whoosh.
