1. Badass, Busy, Bombastic, Bomping, Bowel-worrying. All are alliterative adjectives for bass.
 2.
Yes, we have clubs like Ronnie Scott's right in Milwaukee, for example Shank Hall. Not sure why they call it a "Hall"it's a club actually a small bar. They primarily book headliners. I saw Stanley Clark there. They don't book book local bar bands. Most shows have ticket prices between $35.00- $50.00. Blue
Arnold's diner used to get some good acts too. I saw Weezer play there AND they were singing about Buddy Holly.
 3.
I am definetely not cool but I used kool as reference to the song I quoted, oh I am so witty it hurts. Now put that bucket away, not healthy.
I'll make a point of laughing at some point in the evening. I'm keeping the bucket however. It makes a fetching top hat once the spew has been poured out.
 4.
Gnomic? GNOMIC?? What the spong does that even mean??
What's a "spong"? I can understand someone playing in the style of a gnome but seriously wtf? Heeheehee
 5.
Buttery biscuit
Oh yes! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfeyUGZt8nk Crikey, that's five years old now.
 6.
Hefty?
Since you ask, phat and hefty should do for a guess.
 7.
Just a quick question - what is the "coolest" way to play your bass? A. On your lap, sitting down. B. On a the longest strap possible, down by your knees. C. On the shortest strap possible, at chest height. D. Stood still and held almost vertically across your body.
That's a trick question. If you have to ask, you don't understand the term "cool". It's possible you have it confused with the term "fashionable".
 8.
Selling the band can be done by any one person who's switched on and has the band's interests at heart. It makes sense to have someone who is "equipped". Set someone up with a folder or tablet that has some images of the band. Some "studio" posed ones would be ok, but you need some that look like the band is playing a gig. After all, you're wanting the guy to take a risk. Their fear is that you look at mess and sound cr@p. So why not hand out CDs as well. The person selling you needs to come across as professional and dependable too. Remember that people don't like to take a risk so you need to make him feel comfortable. A switched-on non-employed wife of the band would be great. But they need to come across as confident and passionate about your performance.
Thanks. You seem to be in support of a human presence rather than a sole reliance on Internet material.
 9.
what sort of stuff are you playing (originals, covers, genre, etc) and what have you tried? My own experience is that you need someone to take on the manager/promoter side of things - ideally someone who has the gift of the gab (usually the singer, and being gobby does tend to come with their territory) and will happily spend an evening ringing and e-mailing places and chatting to them about why your band is exactly what they need. All the bands I've been in that have struggled to get gigs suffered from a lack of anyone who was good at that, and the ones that have got regular gigs always had one person who was great at it.
A single point of contact makes sense. In this case the singer. It makes little sense to me to be looking at the Internet for promotion on your local patch. Maybe see what financial implication there is to engaging someone outside of the band.
 10.
But speaking of kool, Kim Gordon must get a mention here:
The word "kool" is not cool. Neither are the words "kewl", "kule" "nor "koule" Heeheehee. Love yoofspeek. [Reaches for bucket] I'd like to nominate Pino Palladino again. I just saw him in the band at a live Simon and Garfunkle gig on Vintage TV. He's bl**dy everywhere the Welsh tart!
 11.
Lots of people live in Thailand mate, some of whom are very wealthy - just like most other countries! I sold a pair of high end speaker cables to bloke in Thailand years ago, paid via bank transfer, no issues at all. The value of these cables would be more than most of secondhand Status's! Dont know why people are saying not to accept paypal gift. It cannot be reversed which is why it is free to use - no transaction insurance to pay for!
One reason not to entertain the idea is because it is a S A L E. You're not giving or receiving a gift in the case of the OP. How can you make any sort of argument if you've chosen to call the deal a "gift" transaction? If anything goes wrong with a gift transaction that is actually a SALE you're stuffed because you've been trying to be "clever". Take up the argument with HMRC if you don't believe me.
 12.
I would be interested to know what circumstances might warrant that. I had an incident with internet banking where funds were sent to somewhere they shouldn't have. My fault. I screwed up, so no issue with anyone else. I had discussions with my bank and others about getting it back from where it had been sent and the concensus was that as it wasn't fraudulent, I would have to wave it goodbye. Fortunately for me, I had tried to send it to an account that didn't actually exist, so it bounced back to me. Phew! Just genuinely interested from a learning standpoint. Not that I'm planning on it happening a second time you understand.
Genuine error on the part of the bank account holder (in this case yourself). That is the only thing I can think of and even then there would be little sympathy if my banks are owt to go by. Seems you have found it to be the same with yours. Folk say buyer beware. It cuts both ways when you have faceless intermediaries in the chain like internet go-betweens. Seller be safe.
 13.
Even bank transfer isn't as guaranteed as people think it is, it can still be claimed back in certain circumstances.
Banks do NOT have their common customers' (ourselves, if you will) interests at heart except for those who are gullible enough to buy "product" from them, time and time again. That's my experience within this country. I wouldn't attempt to sell abroad as there are even less guarantees that way. @ OP; Make yours a seller's market my friend. Make them jump to your tune, so to speak.
 14.
Nothing to do with a scam, but I got a message from someone about a pedal I'm selling on Facebook groups... "I just bought an afterneath, for about the same price as yours but yours looks in better conditions, so I was thinking to bring that back and buy yours, if it's worth it and if you're willing to a bit lower with the price" Which I thought was mega cheeky so told him I wouldn't sell him it, cos I imagined how annoyed I'd be if I was the person who had sold him the original one, suddenly getting asked to return it cos he'd seen a better condition one! Some people...
Probably underage.
 15. Update; I got a kind invitation from PaulWarning to join him and his wife Wendy at last night's open mic at the Horse and Groom. During the week, I'd been jamming along to their YT clips of three numbers; 500 Miles, Should I Stay or Should I Go and New England. Thankfully, there was a better turn out there than of late and there were four or five little sets played by various people including ourselves. It turned out that Paul and I each had "The Letter" by The Box Tops in our repertoires and happily, played them in the same key so it made a total of four numbers that we performed as a trio. I got through with a few little hiccups but much better than I thought I would. Paul and Wendy continued on with a few more and got up again later to round the night off. Very enjoyable. I think I'll be doing that again. Cheers both.
 16.
I heard Chas & Dave are collaborating with Dr Dre on a new track called Knees Up Muvvafu**a.
Hahahahahahahahaha,
 17.
Lol - I made it up - Pretty Bloo** F****ng Sure
I'm so glad. Heeheehee
 18.
Amazing - I'm PBFS he used a...
I looked up the acronym you used and found this; http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/PBFS Can we eliminate some of those definitions please?
 19.
Amazing - I'm PBFS he used a Fender Jazz when I saw him with Emerson Lake and Palmer back in the 70s and also with KC before that? He also played rather nice acoustic guitar as well - I hadn't appreciated he'd gone back to the 1959 rudiments at some stage With regard to the tug bar, back in the late 60s when I got interested in these things, unless you played with your fingers bass players were rather thought of as dabbling guitarists or worse still, those clicky plectrum things on the 'bubblegum' pop music of the day, as opposed to proper progressive music (or jazz/R and B ) so it was really an anachronism from the late 50s. As is often the case with Messrs Fender and timely (or not usually) response to customer practice and need, they moved the tug bar to the top to facilitate 'proper' finger style bass playing in the early 70s just at a time when slap bass was taking off in R and B, and thus rendering it virtually impossible on a standard Precision without removing said tug bar. Of course, parking your plucking hand in one place by using the tug bar rather limits the change in sound you can get by varying somewhere between the bridge and the neck. But so do the chrome covers (even more so on a Jazz). All that said, a Fender without a tug bar in the traditional place for the era (and chrome covers) just doesn't look right to me but that's just me being OCD probably
Cheers. That sheds light on a lot of things for me.
 20.
Oh and at the time no one knew who the **ck Jamerson was, only that there were some tasty and audible bass lines on Tamla records with rumours of them being played by a housewife in her spare time.
Thanks. I had a right good larf at that! I bet she who will remain nameless knew where her tug bar was at all times.
 21.
'Technical' players really aren't cool... Anyone who plays a 5 string is not cool.
I sort of agree with your first point but I'd suggest an amendment to your second point. Five string B E A D G - Cool Five string E A D G C - not In my humble opinion.
 22.
Look, I'm a non BRIT responding in this thread. How rock and roll am I right now?
If you consider that Madonna is an anglophile too and you think that she sings R&R then - very. [pulling your leg]
 23.
Blasphemy!

Go and stand in the corner!
Harharharharharhar. Who do you think I am? Jack Horner?
