String Cleaners/boiling/coated Strings and General tone
SpondonBassed replied to thundachopz's topic in General Discussion
Ultrasound works much better than that. It displaces the greasy deposits using a combination of solvent and the vibration from the ultrasound cleaner. It's less traumatic for your strings and hardware than the method you've seen. You will see the gunk sat at the bottom of the ultrasound bath after a three minute blast.- 46 replies

It's shiny though.

I saw Vulfpeck mentioned first about two years ago when a fellow member posted a link to the Beastly video on YT. They appear to have by-passed a lot of the baggage that weighs most bands down in the business. It goes without saying that JD is the star player from my POV. He makes it look as joyful as it sounds. All of the core line up are strong performers: - Jack Stratton, Theo Katzman, Woody Goss, Joe Dart. Antwaun Stanley occasionally provides a powerful voice that goes well with Theo's. The flexibility of the line-up guarantees a grand spectacle with various collaborations adding to the novelty. The most memorable clip for me is where they perform in Dublin and the entire audience sings the bassline to Dean Town as Joe rivets the beat to the floor. That's a measure of the charisma that surrounds this band. Thanks for the link Pawel. That's a line up that I had not previously seen.

String Cleaners/boiling/coated Strings and General tone

Ultrasonic bath used with 100 percent IPA. The one that my link points to is a little expensive. I got mine some years ago from ALDI's bargain aisle for less than a tenner. Use this method in a well ventilated room and take fire precautions. Make sure that you use pure Iso Propyl Alcohol - 100%. Less than 100% means that it contains water and it may cause issues with corrosion. I don't recommend it for coated or nylon wrapped strings however. It's ideal for gummed up metal watch straps.- 46 replies

Thanks for those. I hadn't heard of them before. Liking them a lot.

Good strategy. Turn a problem into an opportunity to upgrade. Nice. -
Interesting. Didn't Roy Wood perform those as one of the string section?
-
It's a nice idea to use a bass body though. It's been cut down somewhat from the old Ibby shape.

That's looking like a great start. Mine had a simple scheme that gave me individual vol and tone for each. Pitbull had included it with the kit. In addition, I had downloaded all of their YT clips detailing various aspects of building and wiring their kits. Two unbranded humbuckers were supplied. The pickups had all of the coil tails accessible so that coil tapping is a possibility. I looked at many of the wiring schemes that are in, I think, the technical section of this forum but in the end I stuck with the simple scheme as supplied with the intent of modifying the wiring later. Would you mind posting an image of your scheme as supplied? It isn't clear whether you meant that the scheme was supplied with the Pitbull kit or the Kent Armstrong pups but I might be able to use it in either case.

A guitar? Or are you going to do a six string bass?
-
Yeah. They're, like, so phony.

Fleetwood Mac (with Neil Finn)...

One and a half times what Talking Heads are doing with their two bassists on that Talking Heads topic obviously. -
I have amended your quote with what I assume was meant. While the the Captains of the British Retail Industry are busy crying about Brexit have they actually taken the time to look at that as an opportunity? It doesn't look much like they have. I'm sure there are exceptions that do not get favourable coverage simply because it isn't click-baity enough.

@mybassand @BreadBin Thanks for that. Seeing the resin being poured in has such a soothing effect. I love looking at those driftwood composite bodies in still photos already but the process is mesmerising by itself. I used a resin kit in my youth. It was sold by hobby shops as a means of making decorative objects such as those paperweights that have the components of a watch embedded or an interesting insect. The hardener is nasty stuff. I only played with that for a while as the fumes and the loss of chemically hardened skin from my unprotected fingers put me off. I was only twelve and H&S was not really a thing those days. The clip mentions Ecopoxy resin. I could thank you for that alone. Have we any owners reading who could comment on the durability of this sort of composite body over long periods of time? It's one thing to fill voids in a burl top but one of those driftwood bodies looked like it relied heavily on the resin as a structural component.

Many thanks. That was useful.

It won't work with script filters. Three quarters of the page you linked out to is third party stuff. I don't bother with sites who can't give you a page without you accept scripts from "associates". I trust the content was interesting however.

It's not being told that there will be significant additional charges until you've more or less committed to the purchase that has put my housemate off purchasing anything from the 'states. The sanctions have nothing to do with it. It's nothing to do with the American suppliers in fact, it's our lot who tell you about the charges later! He's not bothered who's loading the price, he just filters out all US sellers in his search results. Gee.

I'm thinking it might be a union thing for the TV station. Even their syndicates are syndicated.

I wondered about that too and then stopped caring because 77 had slipped, as if by itself, into the four track and mysteriously started playing loudly.

That also looks like a great way of concealing your flatulence from the rest of the passengers on the Coach Trip -
Nor did I. I'm going to have to stop thinking of him as Mark Commode from now on though. That's a reflection of my distaste for critics generally but not for MK personally by the way.
