Hehe, sure! I hear you.... Although Hyori's pronunciation seems to be just for rhythmic effect and the glottal stop does not actually exist in standard Korean but a buddy of mine from Melbourne (parents originally from Stratford, London) used to add a stops like that in his speech when enunciating certain Korean words, but it was not to be encouraged!

Indeed I kinda am after 26 years here... although I spent my first 4 years or so with roommates from the SW of the peninsula (Jeollanam-do) and sometimes can have a bit of a "loose" accent when compared to the very straight-laced Seoul dialect And to add one little tidbit (for fun), when speaking English outside of Korea I always have to be careful to pronounce Seoul like soul/sole/sol so people can understand what I'm saying... Many might be surprised to learn that Seoul (서울) is actually a two syllable word, with a sneaky diphthong tucked in between...and a tricky final consonant to boot. The "eo" Seo is very similar to RP pronunciation of "o" in one/won, and ul almost rhymes with cool, but you have to touch the roof of your mouth at the end to form the terminal consonant into a proper Korean ㄹ. Kpop veteran Hyori did a song not long ago that kinda may help grasp the sound of Seoul, although for rhythmic emphasis she added a glottal stop in between the two syllables. FF to about the 1:00 mark...

I admit there are only two people in the world we have that kind of arrangement with, and both are remarkable exceptions! Wish there could be more to share so we could spread the love, but alas running the company at an ongoing deficit poses serious limitations

Nice! I was at the Hyundai/Kia HQ on the south end of the city not long back for some meetings regarding an installation at the remarkable Hyundai Motor Studio/Ilsan. The company has sure come a long way And you likely would not recognize much of the city; the place changes so much, year to year.

With fellow Basschat forumite pmjos' kind recommendation while meeting up last week, I decided to stop by and make a profile. Mihran is my maternal grandfather's name (which I adopted as a musical nickname of sorts) and to state things up front, I work part-time for Moollon. I also go by Andi. I was born in Southern California but have lived in Korea for about 2/3 of my life, where I studied music composition and traditional Korean music theory at university, married my travel agent, and worked for close to 20 years in what later became the K-pop industry. As for bass gear, a delightfully back-breaking 5.5kg 1978 Jazz Bass was my only bass for a very long time, which I passed on to a friend when I purchased my first of three Moollon basses in 2009...somewhat lighter solutions! For the last decade or so I've done music sound design for commercial productions full-time and haven't had any Kpop work since 2012, but I do keep things light and entertaining on the side with a personal dreampop/shoegazer project of mine. I also play have too many Gretsch guitars MOTU DP9, SPL Channel One, UAD Apollo Duo, and Genelec 8040s are the backbone of my simple studio setup. Lastly, I'm sure many know me from TB, where my profile name is Ultradust. Hoping to be a positive contribution to the Basschat community and cheers to all ~
