1. Gorgeous bass. It'd be the perfect bass to start with six strings for me, beautiful, compact, comfortable and light. I'll have to save money quicker... ? GLWTS
2. Please check again how many £ are 650€. ?
3. Just in case, remember a fender jazz has long/short pickups, but Warwick basses are long/long pickups. The bridge pickup may have a different length than you need.
4. Black Market. A great suggesting intro as well. Love it. Amazing band.
5.
Two outstanding solos on 'Street Life', especially the Tenor solo from Wilton Felder.
Great solos. Great song.
6. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x31lra_spain-chick-corea-72_music One of the best to me. Stanley Clarke is amazing here.
7. I've been playing fretless for the last 3 months, unlined with side dots on the fretboard. After some weeks struggling with intonation it is somehow happening, it seems like my fingertips find the right spot more easily these days, but still there are days I can't play a note right. I'll just continue on playing it and I know my intonation will improve slowly. It has been very helpful to use a clip tuner in the process of playing it and learning how to intonate properly. But it is a long journey, I guess. Fretless is a different instrument altogether for me, I had to change and improve my technique to play it, well at least I am trying 😊. I will have my first gig with a new band playing fretless on june 30th. Old time Rock'n'roll, swing... Right now I am worried about not being able to see the side dots in my fretboard if the stage is too dark. These are abalone dots, not really white dots. Any cheap trick to make your dots shine a bit more in the dark that doesn't involve getting leds installed? Not looking for miracles, but I know a bass player who used nail polish to make the dots shine on stage a bit more.
8. Nice solution. I'd probably go for that too.
9. I can't say about the other brands, but Indonesian Laklands are really great, I have one and then played an american one at the store. I liked mine better. I'm no expert though.
10. Are you sure your old ones were Ernie Ball Group II? My old Group III are just like the new ones you describe, old school flats. In fact, I am waiting for a new set I just ordered a couple of days ago, only the old ones had no silk at the end, only green silk at the bridge. Maybe the Group II were different, though. Mine were bought around 2002, I think. Great flats.
11. One of these days I'll make some pictures then. 😉
12. A very spanish thing, apologizing for our bad english. Really outstanding collection, there's something special about those Vigiers' design. I don't usually like black basses, but that fretless is really beautiful. I have my fretless five a set up with a bit more relief than almost straight, I was told to and, although having to get used to the slightly higher action of the strings at first, the notes 'breathe' better, but I'm just learning to play fretless and probably you know better. Enjoy your new bass, and sorry for my bad english 😁
13. Very nice, kind of a FNA Jazzman neck-thru. Great bass. GLWTS
14.
Buy a Spector - the original design...I'm sure if you look you be able to find a thread on how Warwick stole the design and didn't pay compensation following the court case.
That's really naive. Why not buying a double bass, then? That's the real original design.
15. Mine too. 87 Streamer. Pity they don't use Cherry wood anymore.
16. Early 80's japanese Matsumoku are always an interesting option,
17.
Never broken a string playing. Broke an E whilst fitting a new set of strings. I was tuning up and not really paying attention so the inevitable happened. The string was probably close to an octave above what it should have been when it snapped.
The same happened to me with an A string. I was tuning up with the bass on my lap. It is a miracle I still have my nose intact as a whole. It was like a whip.
