    Love mine to bits, gig it regularly with a 112 Ashdown cab, 8ohm, plenty of bottom with either of my P basses, I was confused initially by the manual info on the gain led, until I realised it blinks green when a signal is detected, then through amber as the gain is increased, finally to red on overload, something the manual fails to mention. At £129 it’s amazing value for money, never had issues and would certainly buy another if it ever needs replacement.

    This won’t help your playing, but I stopped using a mouse many years ago and went with a tracker ball at work together with a track pad at home, much easier on my fingers and wrist, good luck, Mike.

    Yeah, I’m a lot older, not much wiser, but at least I’m still above ground. Always admired someone that- A- could keep a Ford Probe on the road. B- could squeeze a double bass in the back of one. Hope all is well with yourself, all the best, Mike.

    Is that the one with a Warmoth neck ? I might just be confused though, however if you decide to part this one out, can I have first dibs on the neck. By the way, are you still driving the Probe !!!!

    Must admit I prefer D, however on all my instruments with a locking screw knob, I use the screw as the marker. At least once you’ve sorted your knob, it won’t be long before you’ve got your hands on your new tool !!!

    After a great deal of thought, I went for the Neotech Mega strap, swayed by the wider shoulder pad and just completed the same 2 hour rehearsal, albeit with an even heavier P bass than last time. Today I used my old f’less P, weighing in at 11.5 lbs ( 5.25kg for the younger members) and I have to say I’m impressed, stood for the whole session with the bass around my neck and only started to feel an ache in my back for the last 15 minutes. As we only ever play 45-60 minute set lengths , I could happily gig with this bass, something I never thought would happen. Definitely £34 we’ll spent, thanks everyone for their input.

    I’ve been a fan of Newtone strings for many years on my acoustic and electric guitars, heritage acoustic strings are kind to the wrinkley fingers and lower tension is good for old vintage guitars, recently I’ve been using custom gauge sets on my electrics for the same reason. Although a lot of the time stuff shows out of stock on the website, if you place on back order, Neil turns them around in 10-14 days or less, excellent strings, prices and service.

    Excellent result, I agonised over those bits when they first appeared on Gumtree and then Facebook market place as the seller was only about 20 minutes from me, at the time I was also looking at a mid seventies fretless P up on Dartmoor, which finally came to live with me. Good to see the finished bass.

    Here’s one I made earlier, this came to me as kit of parts taken in a trade for a guitar amp on another forum. Warmoth painted body and bakelight scratch plate, Bareknuckle 58 P pickup and ready made loom, with a Korean Squier neck as the original owner was running out of cash. My original plan was to try and source a nice fretless neck, but in the meantime I thought a tele style headstock would be a good look, so out came the jigsaw and rattlecan, my search for another neck became sidetracked when I bought a mid seventies fretless P instead, but that’s another story. The Korean neck had a nice piece of rosewood for the fretboard and with a bit of refinishing it plays perfectly and I’ve used the completed bass at several rehearsal sessions and would happily gig with it.

    As promised a couple of pics of my impending big 70 birthday treat, sold to me as a ‘76, originally rosewood fretted neck, defretted soon after purchase. Around 1980, ebony board fitted and neck completely refinished and “new” decal applied. Now restrung with my favourite Labella Lt flats, spent some time on setup and fettling and it sings as it should.

    I use Labella low tension stainless steel flats on all my basses, much easier on the fingers than their “deep talkin flats”

    After spending a 2 hour rehearsal with a P bass around my neck, I think I need a better strap. Two have caught my eye at Bassdirect, especially the claim made by Neotech in “halving the weight by half”, any one able to make a comparison on both of these.

    I like your thinking on this, perhaps it’s something Andy or Jabba could look into or even Chowney as they’ve gone into UK manufacturing.

    Enjoyed the ramble and hope the journey brings the success you deserve. Sadly I’m at the time in life that’s bringing my playing to an end so regretfully a new purchase is unlikely, however, love the look of the shortscale P and I’m dying to get my hands on it at Bristol later this month. Good luck for the future and I hope everyone supports the pound and not the dollar, yen, euro or whatever. Mike B.

    Following a trip to my local B&Q, I have returned home and liberally applied the copper slugtape to all my cavities, I’m now happy to report that not only is the bass buzz free, no creatures have been harmed in the process. Thanks for the tip guys.
