Thanks for the info, 64mm might not be too bad, would love to get my hands on one of these at some point, I used to own a fanfret guitar, so I’m well aware of the advantage, in fact a friend of mine borrowed it to do some acoustic solo gigs, while I was in hospital, and begged me to sell it to him. Also, working with a Sax player we do a lot of stuff in F and Bflat, so it’s nice to play all around the 6th fret to save a bit of a stretch.

Excellent review, do you mind me asking for the string spacing at the bridge and also the width of the neck at the twelfth fret. I do some times miss my old SEI headless 5, but as my hand deteriorated I struggled with the width of the bound neck.

Why so many short scale basses at the moment?
wrinkleygit replied to Greg Edwards69's topic in Bass Guitars
My fretless is 31.5” and is much easier on the hands than a 34”, my fretted bass is 30” and I hardly notice the difference those two. I do miss playing a 5, but for me the issue was the width of the neck. However with the state of my hands now, shortscale definitely rules. -
L’abella low tension stainless flats, every time, normally available from Bass Direct .

Looking good, when you get around to wiring for the coil tap, don’t go directly to earth. Instead go through a capacitor, the value of the cap will control the amount of treble you bleed to earth on the tapped coil, this method will leave the pickup in humbucking mode and avoids the massive drop in volume that a straight to earth tap gives. As a general guide I normally use a 22 cap on guitars and a 47 on bass, when I use this method, mainly because these are the standard values in my parts drawer, anything between 010-050 caps will work with different effect depending on the humbucker that you have. Looking forward to what happens next, keep safe, Mike.

Why are there so few Musicman Sterlings?
wrinkleygit replied to BassApprentice's topic in Bass Guitars
Six pages here and nobody has mentioned “Rita” the infamous Basschat Bike, I owned her for quite some time, came to me with an odd switch fault that turned out to be a broken wire in the Nordstrand pickup, sadly had to be sold to help finance an Overwater fretless, went to someone else on the forum. Great bass and much better to play than a mates “Ray”, Warwickhunt might remember her, wonder where she is now. -
Another 27" Short Scale Mini Bass (but with LEDs)

What an absolute gem, looking forward to to following the 5 string build, the fretless is still proving it’s worth in the trio, only rehearsing these days, hopefully better times next year, stay safe, Mike B. -
It was only a matter of time, I’m hooked as well 😃

Short Scale 'Thing' (was going to be 23" but ended up 27"...)

Big thumbs up for Neil @ Newtone Strings, basically he will make whatever you want & I don’t think he is expensive in that respect. I have used his Heritage acoustic guitar strings for many years now, if like me you have wrinkley arthritic fingers they are an absolute joy to play and I can’t recommend them highly enough. -

Words alone cannot describe, even though all of our gigs have been postponed for the foreseeable future, I’ve almost managed to justify why I need at least two more basses !!!! -

I still miss my 5 string with the low B, the problem for me in the end, was the width of the neck stressing my arthritic old digits, but playing with a sax those extra low notes were a god send. Whether it would be possible to make a low B work on 29” would be quite a challenge in itself, it would be interesting to know from other 5 string players which would be more useful high C or low B tuning. As always good luck with any future project & I would love to see a fiver at some point. -

Exquisite as always 👍 -
Looking forward to the next SW bash to see another fine example of craftsmanship 👍

Anyone using one of the above for gigging, are 2x8’s a bit too “toppy”. My current SWR 2 x 10 setup gives me the tone I like but it’s getting a bit heavy in my advancing years .

Hang on in there Frank it won’t be long now, played an outdoor wedding gig on Saturday & had nothing but positive comments on my bass sound, Mike.

Since migrating from guitar to bass many years ago I've been lucky enough to own a fair selection of basses, however I've never had a bass with Gibson on the headstock. Now later in life my preference is for shorter scales & for some inexplicable reason the EB-0 & EB-3 series has popped into my head. I know very little about these so are there some long term users on here who can offer some thoughts or advice on different model changes, I know they lost the edge chamfering in the early 70's for example. One of my all time favourite guitars is my '72 SG std which I have owned since 74 so I know the disadvantages of the body shape when hung on a strap, mike b.

just seen this thread, I've been using a Working Mans 1x10 combo & matching 1x10 cab for some years now, not the lightest combo in the world by todays standards but it is manageable. Always worked well with my old Sei headless 5 & now makes the perfect partner for my Jabba fretless. Haven't seen one for sale for ages & would guess they won't fetch much these days , but I hold mine in high regard if that's any consolation, here's a link to a couple of sound clips that were taken on an iPhone, sound quality is poor unless you can play back thro a speaker system, mike b. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/1309lt80ra1iiqk/AABd9pNdlaotYYJag67C0HW6a?dl=0
