    Great to see you back up and running again, the Telebass is always on hand as my practice tool and the Fretless gets its first gig of the year in a couple of weeks, looking forward to see how Franks turns out .

    Recently acquired a p-bass bitsa with a bareknuckle 58 pickup that has an annoying buzz that stops by touching the bridge or strings. First thought was no connection between bridge and ground, but checked visually and with a meter and found a good connection. Also tried the bass at home and in the rehearsal room with different amps, all with the same results, would a grounding plate beneath the pickup be of benefit or any other suggestions before I pull out what little hair I have left !!

    When I owned it the original bartolini pickups had been replaced with a pair of emg’s by a previous owner, I also replaced the balance pot as it was faulty when I received the bass, all other components were original including the preamp circuit which was a bartolini set up. At that time it was housed in its original aluminium Flightcase which was heavier than my car, I transported the bass everywhere in a Fusion guitar sized gigbag. The playing action and the sounds available where stunning and had it not been for my worsening arthritis it would still be here with me, it truly was a fabulous instrument to own.

    It was engraved on a narrow strip held in place by two screws, at the front of the bridge.

    If it’s serial no11, I used to own it, always thought it would be my forever bass, but sadly as my hands deteriorated with arthritis I struggled with the neck width and reverted back to four strings, fabulous instrument and a regrettable sale .

    I recently bought an SRV strat neck from Northwest Guitars, excellent quality and fit, not expensive in my opinion either, frets were well finished and all I had to do was adjust the nut slots to suit, would happily buy another neck from them.

    Used this at a couple of rehearsals with an 8ohm 112 cab and at home with headphones as a practice amp. Firstly, the fan is super quiet and in no way obtrusive, secondly the green signal led flashes with every note played but as the gain is increased turns amber then red at the onset of overload, with all three of my basses as a finger only player, this only occurred at almost full gain setting when digging in hard, there is no mention of the colour change in the instruction leaflet, which caused my initial confusion, although you don’t need a light to tell you of overload, your ears are sufficient. In conclusion, yes it generates some heat in use, but nothing like any of my valve amps, the tone controls function as they should and it’s easy to set up, the mains lead and speaker lead take up almost as much space as the amp itself, for the price, to have one as a main amp or backup makes complete sense, absolute bargain at £129.00.

    The fretless is probably the lightest bass I’ve ever owned and is a joy to play standing, the telebass is probably the heaviest bass I’ve ever owned and is the perfect practice bass to use lounging on the sofa. Visitors to recent SW Bashes know how good these really are.

    Thanks for that, I only used it for 1/2 hour or so practice session, barely got warm during that and with the gain at about 1.00 o’clock had no signal distortion, with the light flashing on every note, certainly not disappointed, will give it a full work out at next weeks rehearsal session.

    After hearing the TE Elf and the TC Bam at last year’s SW Bash, seeing Andertons had new stock finally arrived I’ve bought myself the BAM200, plugged it into my old Ashdown 112 and have to say I’m amazed that something for that price and size can sound so good. However, couple of questions for any other owners, first I can’t hear the fan running, does it only come on when a high temperature is reached? Second, the instructions say turn up the gain until the green light flashes, then back off a little, on mine the light flashes as soon as it detects a signal? Any other users have the same.

    I recently had a similar problem with a DV Mark guitar head, after taking the top off it didn’t take long to sort out the problem, a loose ribbon cable connector from the output board to the main board just needed pushing fully home, I believe connectors working loose or not being fully home in the first place is a common MB fault, good luck, Mike.

    Back in the day when I had my headless Sei Original 5er, I used Labella double ball end flats from Bass Direct, from memory you had to buy a 4 string set plus a separate low B.

    Initially had TI’s on my old Overwater Progress, but couldn’t get on with the low tension, swapped them around on a couple of other basses with the same results, just felt too loose for me. The Labella LT flats are easier on my fingers without being too floppy, but it all comes down to personal taste in the end.

    On my 30” scale Telebass, I have Labella SS low tension flats, also fitted them to a mates 70’s Musicmaster, my favourite flats by far, much nicer than TI flats or Chromes in my opinion.

    I’ve never won the lottery, but I still feel like I’m the luckiest man on the planet !!!!! Having had some time to bond with the Tele, I will post up a NBD thread soon and talk about the pickup and switching options.
