When I was discussing what I wanted for my 'about-to-be-built' Wal Custom, Pete sked me if I wanted lined or unlined. I wasn't sure ( I was a big Mick Karn fan at the time) so he suggested dark ( low-key brown) inlays, so they were visible to me but not so much to anyone in the audience. I agreed, mainly for more for accuracy in the studio. Worked a treat.

I think you 2 are extreme cases. shame. mine was no problem for the 8 months I had it

Several times for each string. you see the dry 'gunk' flying off the fingerboard as the string cracks against it. you are shaking crap out of from between the string windings where cloth cleaning usually can't get to. if your strings are years old, it will barely be noticeable. New strings? naah... but brighter, yes.
